Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Baraqiel, King Piece
Shuri Himejima, with her dark, flowing hair and an air of ancient wisdom beyond her years, regarded him coolly. Beside her, a young girl of no more than eight, Akeno Himejima, watched with wide, curious eyes that belied a fierce determination.
And looming slightly apart from them was Baraqiel, a figure whose presence was as commanding as it was enigmatic. His eyes burned with a potent mixture of authority and wariness, and as Sasuke stepped closer, he could feel the immense strength emanating from him, an energy that matched his own in intensity.
A cold silence fell as Sasuke and Baraqiel regarded each other, each sensing the formidable power the other held. The air crackled with unspoken challenge.
Finally, Baraqiel's deep, resonant voice broke the silence. "You tread a dangerous path, stranger," he intoned, his tone measured and unmistakably cautious.
Sasuke's expression remained impassive, his Sharingan glinting in the half-light. "I walk where I choose," he replied shortly. The exchange was terse, a collision of two forces, each unwilling to yield an inch.
Meanwhile, Shuri and Akeno watched silently. Akeno's eyes sparkled with unfiltered curiosity as she took in Sasuke's cold demeanor, while Shuri's gaze was analytical, assessing the newcomer with a mixture of skepticism and intrigue.
Before anything happened, Sasuke teleported with a portal outside the shrine for Baraqiel to follow him.
The atmosphere was thick with tension, the cool night air doing little to dispel the weight of the silent standoff between them. The only sounds were the rustling of the trees and the distant hum of Kuoh's nightlife.
Baraqiel studied Sasuke with narrowed eyes, his divine aura flickering like lightning beneath his skin. His instincts screamed at him... this stranger was dangerous. His presence here, so close to his family, was an issue that required immediate attention.
The Grigori co-leader took a step forward, his wings materializing in a brief flash of light before retracting, a silent display of warning.
"You," Baraqiel rumbled, his voice deep and commanding. "State your business here." The fallen angel's magic was fluctuating dangerously, depending on the response, Baraqiel would not remain passive.
Sasuke remained unfazed, his Sharingan subtly spinning in the dim light. "I walk where I choose," he replied, his tone flat, uninterested. "No one dictates where I can or cannot go."
Baraqiel's frown deepened. His piercing gaze scrutinized the young man before him. "And yet, you appear at my home, near my wife and child, as if by chance ?" His voice was laced with restrained hostility. "I don't believe in coincidences."
Sasuke scoffed, crossing his arms. "Think what you will." His eyes flicked briefly toward the entrance of the sanctuary where Shuri and Akeno were watching from a distance, the little girl peeking out from behind her mother. He then turned his attention back to Baraqiel, his expression unreadable. "I have no interest in your family."
Baraqiel's power surged slightly at those words, his divine energy crackling in the air. "Watch your tone, boy." His voice was low, dangerous. "You're in my territory, near my family, and I don't know who or what you are."
Sasuke's eyes narrowed. He could feel the immense power within Baraqiel, an overwhelming force unlike anything he had encountered in this world so far. This man wasn't just strong. He was something else entirely. A being whose strength had been tempered through war and bloodshed, a warrior who had survived countless battles.
For him, however, it didn't change anything. He can still crush him without any problem.
Sasuke tilted his head slightly, his Sharingan gleaming. "What are you?"
Baraqiel's expression darkened, his stance shifting slightly. He recognized the tone in Sasuke's voice. It wasn't fear. It was curiosity, clinical, assessing, the kind of interest only another warrior would have when measuring an opponent.
"I am Baraqiel," he said simply. "One of the leaders of Grigori. A Fallen Angel."
Sasuke didn't react immediately. A Fallen Angel… he heard them from Cleria before, but seeing one up close was different. He could feel the "divinity" within Baraqiel's presence, but it was twisted in a way, tainted, neither purely holy nor entirely unholy. A being that had once belonged to the heavens but had since fallen from grace.
Comparing his aura to Kaguya's, he could say something. If the Otsutsuki came to this world, those guys were screwed.
"Hmph," Sasuke exhaled, glancing at the wings Baraqiel had momentarily revealed earlier. "So, you're an exile."
Baraqiel's brow twitched. "Careful with your words, boy." There was a warning in his voice, but Sasuke wasn't intimidated.
"I don't care what you are," Sasuke continued, his tone still calm but edged with cool indifference. "I was drawn here by your power, nothing more. You were radiating energy strong enough to be noticed from across town." He narrowed his eyes slightly. "And from the way you're acting, it seems I'm not the only one who noticed."
Baraqiel's gaze flickered for a fraction of a second. Sasuke's words were sharp, dangerously sharp. He had indeed been releasing more energy than usual, but that was only because he had just returned from a mission. That this boy had sensed him from such a distance was troubling. Very few could detect his presence so easily.
"You have sharp senses," Baraqiel admitted. His voice, though still cautious, carried a hint of grudging respect. "Not many could pick up on my presence like that." He wondered who this person was. He didn't seem to have any magic, he possessed something else. Is he really just a simple human? He didn't detect any Sacred Gear in him, how does he possess such an aura?
Sasuke remained silent, merely holding Baraqiel's gaze.
For a moment, neither spoke. The two warriors stood there, measuring each other. Baraqiel, a seasoned veteran of divine wars, and Sasuke, a lone shinobi from another world, both powerful in their own right. The tension in the air had not yet faded, but there was now a quiet understanding between them.
Finally, Baraqiel exhaled, some of his hostility waning. "I don't know who you are, but you aren't just some ordinary human," he said. His eyes locked onto Sasuke's, searching. "You carry power… A lot for an human."
Sasuke gave a small smirk, but it lacked humor. "You're not wrong." He turned slightly, glancing back at the sanctuary. "But that's not your concern."
Baraqiel didn't reply immediately, but his sharp gaze never left Sasuke. He had encountered many beings over the centuries: angels, devils, even dragons. But this boy was different. There was something about him that felt… foreign. Like an anomaly in the grand design.
"Just know this," Baraqiel finally said, his tone firm. "If you ever become a threat to my family, to my wife or my daughter, I will not hesitate." The air around him crackled with restrained power. "No matter what you are, I will end you."
Sasuke's smirk vanished, his expression turning cold. His Rinnegan pulsed faintly. "You'd be welcome to try," he replied, voice low and unwavering.
The air grew thick with unspoken challenge, but neither moved. Then, as if on cue, a small voice called out from the sanctuary's entrance.
"Papa…?"
Both men turned their heads slightly to see Akeno standing there, watching with wide eyes. Shuri stood behind her, placing a gentle hand on her daughter's shoulder, though her expression was unreadable.
Baraqiel sighed, some of the tension leaving his posture. He cast Sasuke one last look before stepping away. "You should go," he said. "We're done here."
Sasuke glanced at Akeno for a brief moment, then back at Baraqiel. Without another word, he turned and walked away into the night, his footsteps fading into the distance.
Baraqiel watched him disappear into the city streets, his expression grim.
"…What are you, really?" he muttered under his breath. He had to immediately report Sasuke's presence to Azazel, he couldn't ignore such a powerful unknown figure, whether he was human or not. He, a being at the top of this world, felt even a shiver upon seeing those eyes.
Shuri stepped beside him, watching Sasuke's retreating form with a thoughtful gaze. "He's not normal," she murmured. "But… I don't think he's our enemy."
Baraqiel remained silent, his mind turning over the encounter.
---
Cleria Belial sat in her study, her fingers absentmindedly flipping through an old leather-bound book. The candlelight flickered softly, casting long shadows against the walls of her private library. Her eyes were sharp with focus, her mind turning over a rumor that had reached her ears earlier in the week.
The King Piece.
It was a name that had surfaced only in hushed conversations, whispered among certain Devils who delved into the hidden aspects of the Rating Games. Cleria had no direct confirmation of its existence, only fragments of information buried in ancient records and the occasional slip from high-ranking officials.
She tapped her fingers against the desk. A special Evil Piece that enhances a Devil's power beyond natural limits… If this is true, then why is it so well hidden?
From what little she had managed to gather, only nine such pieces had ever been created before their production was halted. The idea intrigued her, but it also raised unsettling questions. If the pieces were real, and if they were truly capable of elevating a Devil's strength beyond normal boundaries, then why had they been suppressed? And more importantly, where were they now?
She sighed, closing the book in front of her. I doubt Ajuka would allow them to fall into the wrong hands… but power like that never remains buried forever.
She had no intention of prying too deeply just yet. Her position in Kuoh required discretion. Poking into matters involving a Maou, especially one as enigmatic as Ajuka Beelzebub, could attract unwanted attention.
Still, she couldn't help but wonder. If someone had access to one of these pieces…
Her thoughts drifted to Sasuke. His strength was unnatural, even by supernatural standards. He lacked a Sacred Gear, had no trace of demonic energy, and yet his presence alone could make even a high class devil like her shake if he wanted. Could he be connected to this somehow?
No. That was unlikely. Sasuke didn't strike her as someone involved in the Rating Games at all, nor did he seem to care about Devil politics. But that only made him more of an enigma.
With a quiet exhale, Cleria leaned back in her chair. She would continue her search cautiously. There was no immediate urgency, but her instincts told her that the King Piece was not something to be ignored.
And in her experience, instincts were rarely wrong.
She exhaled softly, setting her thoughts aside for now. There were more immediate matters to attend to.
Reaching for a small communication orb on her desk, she infused it with a touch of her magic. A faint glow pulsed through the crystal before the image of Aiko, her Queen, appeared within.
"Good morning, Cleria," Aiko greeted, her sharp violet eyes glinting with their usual quiet intelligence. Even through the orb, the composed air about her was evident. "Did something come up?"
"Something like that," Cleria replied, leaning back slightly. "I need you to reach out to Sasuke later today. Have him come by the Council."
Aiko raised an eyebrow. "Sasuke Uchiha? I take it this isn't about a social visit."
Cleria smirked. "When is it ever?"
Aiko chuckled softly before tilting her head in curiosity. "Any particular reason?"
Cleria tapped a finger against her desk in thought before answering. "Nothing urgent. Just a few things I want to discuss with him." That was only a partial truth. Sasuke was an anomaly in this town and unconcerned with the supernatural world, but she needed to talk this matter with him. Even after two months, there was still much she didn't know about him.
Aiko hummed in thought. "Alright. I'll see if he's at school and let him know."
"Good," Cleria said, glancing out the window at the sun climbing higher in the morning sky. "Let me know what he says."
Aiko nodded, her image flickering slightly in the orb. "I doubt he'll refuse, but… are you sure you want to keep interacting with him so closely?"
Cleria's lips curled into a knowing smile. "Why? Worried I'll get attached?" She won't say, but she's already grown attached to this cold man.
Aiko sighed. "No, but I am worried that he's unpredictable. He doesn't fit into any of the usual categories of power. That makes him both interesting and dangerous."
Cleria chuckled lightly. "That's what makes it fun, don't you think?"
Aiko didn't respond immediately, but Cleria could see the small shift in her expression, mild exasperation mixed with understanding. After all, Aiko knew her well enough by now.
"Just don't push him too far," Aiko finally said. "I'll contact him after classes."
With that, the orb dimmed as their conversation ended.
Cleria exhaled softly, standing from her chair and stretching slightly. She didn't expect anything dramatic to happen from calling Sasuke over, but a part of her was curious.
Is he going to help her researchs in this topic? She never asked him to get involved in the supernatural world, this matter was dangerous even for her so she doubts he'll accept.
But she's curious about this room, she won't back down, even if Sasuke refuses.
