Chapter 304.1
Chapter 304.1. The Mass Of Flesh
Light and darkness collide, and the shockwaves from their mutual annihilation reverberate through the surroundings. The air trembles, and even Sakimori staggers from the impact. As a wizard named Build, my armor is made of paper, after all.
I quickly increase the output of darkness and regain my stance. Having turned into darkness, I must now look like a humanoid mass of shadow. Everyone would probably praise me for being hard-boiled and cool. Plus, this mode is quite convenient since it allows me to do various things.
“I shall destroy you. Even if a new being like you were to emerge, it would not be as insane or cunning as you.”
“Don’t say such harsh things. My spirit is as delicate as a thin thread. I’m really weak to verbal violence, so go easy on me, will you?”
Growing wings of darkness, I fly at high speed while cracking jokes. The wind pressure assaults me, but my magical barrier mitigates all of it.
“I could check what that thread is made of, if you’d like.”
Unexpectedly, the mass of flesh plays along with my banter. Surprised, I can’t help but laugh. This guy seems pretty interesting.
[Dragon Transformation]
As I fly around the crystal to exploit the mass of flesh’s opening, it utters words I’d rather not hear.
With those words, the mass of flesh transforms. It becomes a Western dragon with crimson scales. The transformation is instantaneous, leaving no openings.
With four bat-like wings and a majestic body spanning 100 meters, the crimson dragon glares at me with ruby-like eyes, baring its crystal-like fangs as it opens its massive maw.
[Breath of Destruction]
A tremendous energy of destruction is unleashed from its mouth, an endless breath directed straight at me.
[High Accelerator]
Using my acceleration technique, Sakimori attempts to escape the pursuing breath, flying at bullet-like speed. But the dragon continues to exhale, showing no signs of stopping to catch its breath.
When the breath touches the rainbow-colored ground, it effortlessly bores holes, erasing the terrain. This breath is dangerously powerful. Good thing I didn’t bring Serika and the others. They wouldn’t stand a chance against this level of power. It seems they’ve been caught up in the power of creation and vanished.
“Let’s take a deep breath. It’s not good to exhale for too long.”
[Focus Will]
[High Dark Arrow]
I raise my hand and fire a dark magic arrow. This is a spell enhanced by [Focus Will]. Its power is incomparable to before. As expected of a Legend Core skill. The more ordinary the name, the more effective the skill tends to be. Probably because the creators didn’t think much when naming it, leaving it open for exploits.
Like arrows from a repeating crossbow, the dark arrows are fired in rapid succession, streaking toward the mass of flesh at the speed of light. I watch to see if they can pierce the gleaming crimson scales, but the dragon stops its breath, rolls sideways, and deftly evades with its massive body.
“I was hoping you’d take the hit and show off the greatness of dragons by proving it ineffective.”
I can’t help but chuckle wryly as the dark arrows fly past the dragon without a single hit. What a cautious dragon this guy is.
“One of the things I learned from watching you.”
[Shining Shower]
While maintaining distance, the mass of flesh generates arrows of light around it. The dazzling, radiant arrows rain down on me like a torrential downpour.
“I knew you were always watching me. No offense, but you might want to stop trying to emulate me.”
I reply in a light tone, but I realize evading the rain of light is impossible. My crude, linear acceleration won’t cut it.
That leaves only one option.
“Come forth, Kou!”
“Caw!”
I raise my hand and create a magic circle. From the instantly drawn circle emerges Kou, my dark raven familiar. It transforms into a 5-meter-tall figure, letting out a cute cry as it carries me on its back.
[High-Speed Maneuver]
Kou immediately takes off at high speed, performing sharp, geometric flight patterns, weaving through the gaps in the incoming rain of light.
The wind pressure brushes against my skin, making my hair flutter wildly.
“Thanks, Kou. It’s been a while since I’ve ridden a roller coaster.”
“Caw caw!”
As I pat Kou, who responds with a “you’re welcome,” I shift my gaze back to the mass of flesh.
“You can summon familiars in this space?!”
“I couldn’t summon fairy or divine machines. Maybe it’s because they’re tied to your power. But familiars created entirely by my hand seem to work just fine.”
I grin at the stunned dragon. The fairies couldn’t be summoned here, likely due to their cores. But since familiars are extensions of myself, I can summon them without issue.
The mass of flesh, slightly shaken, slows its flight speed. Seizing the opportunity, Kou spreads its wings and unleashes a spell.
[Dark Feather Dance]
