Chapter 5: Chapter 5
Elias braced himself against the console, his mind racing. The ship's systems were stabilizing under the influence of the golden energy, but the weight of the revelation pressed down on him like artificial gravity cranked too high.
The Nexus was a seal. Something was contained within. And now, it was waking up.
Sienna stood beside him, scanning the alien data that had been imprinted into the Eclipse's systems. Her expression was a mix of awe and dread. "This isn't just information, Elias. It's… instructions."
His heart pounded. "For what?"
Sienna turned the screen toward him, her green eyes reflecting the shifting glyphs of golden light. "For building something. A failsafe."
The words sent a shiver down Elias's spine. "A failsafe for what, Sienna?"
She swallowed, her voice barely above a whisper. "For when the seal finally breaks."
The ship trembled again, but this time, it wasn't the Nexus. The space beyond was shifting. LUX's voice crackled back to life.
"External anomaly detected. Unidentified spatial distortions emerging at a distance of 1.2 AU. Composition unknown."
Elias and Sienna exchanged glances. "They're already here," she murmured.
Elias gritted his teeth. He didn't know what "they" were, but he was willing to bet they weren't friendly. "LUX, can we move yet?"
"Navigation partially restored. Engines at 63% efficiency. Hyperspace jump… possible, but unstable."
Sienna turned to him. "We can't leave yet. Not without decoding everything they gave us."
Elias hesitated. He knew she was right. The data wasn't just a warning—it was a plan. A way to stop whatever was coming. If they jumped now without securing the information, humanity might never get another chance.
But if they stayed…
A deep tremor rocked the ship, and the alarms blared again.
"Gravitational anomaly increasing. Unknown entities approaching at rapid velocity."
Sienna's fingers flew across the controls, her breathing sharp and fast. "Elias, we're out of time!"
Elias clenched his fists. He turned toward the view beyond the observation deck, where the golden glow of the Nexus pulsed like a heartbeat.
Then, just beyond its edge, something emerged.
A shape. A silhouette.
Dark. Massive.
Twisting against the fabric of space itself.
LUX's voice crackled. "Correction: Unknown entities… singular. Singular entity. Size… immeasurable. Classification… catastrophic."
The golden energy surrounding the Nexus flared violently, as if reacting to the presence of the intruder. Elias could feel it—a deep, primal dread gnawing at the edges of his mind.
Sienna's voice was tight with terror. "Elias… we need to go. Now."
For the first time in his life, Elias felt truly small.
Something was waking up.
And they were standing right in front of it.
