Elevator Survival: Master of Every Floor

Chapter 20 - Salt Production Failure

Although the temperature in the elevator had warmed up a bit, Lin Feng was too worked up to fall asleep.

Just then, his private chat box suddenly flashed.

Ye Hua: [Big brother, are you there? The crossbow arrows you wanted last time are ready, please check them.]

Lin Feng: [Um, don’t make them for me for now.]

Seeing Lin Feng’s reply mid-typing, Ye Hua felt half disappointed.

He had thought about whether the other party had anything to keep warm, never expecting this big brother to stop trading with him.

Now what to do? The food from last trade had been eaten up already.

Ye Hua: [Big brother, we can negotiate the price again…]

Lin Feng: [I don’t need crossbow arrows now.]

Ye Hua: [I see…alright, but I can make other things too, let me know if you need anything.]

Lin Feng: [I’ll ask you if I need anything.]

Ye Hua: [Okay big brother.]

Ye Hua sighed in relief. Fortunately, a few others were still buying his arrows, so at least he wouldn’t starve.

After taking back the crossbow arrows, Lin Feng also closed the chat room.

“Ding! The floor the host is about to enter is the Raft Survival floor. The floor only has a wooden raft drifting on the sea, with a wooden box on it. Opening it will yield a bottle of brandy, two gold coins, and a fishing rod.”

“Ding! Triggered selection mission, please choose, host.”

“Option 1: Enter floor and kill great white shark, reward – Basic close combat fighting skills.”

“Option 2: Stay in elevator and don’t enter floor, reward – Endurance increase.”

“I choose one,” Lin Feng said decisively. Although the reward for option two also seemed good, he could increase endurance through training, but it was hard to practice fighting skills himself.

[Ding dong! Elevator descending, please hold tight.]

As Lin Feng opened the door, the salty sea breeze hit his face. Although the weather was good, looking at the endless ocean, Lin Feng somehow felt irritated.

But the mission came first. After moving the wooden box into the elevator, Lin Feng took out his shotgun to look for the great white shark.

Buzz~

Soon, the great white shark that had been lurking underwater finally appeared, lurking below the surface as if looking for an opportunity.

Bang!

Finally, the great white shark suddenly bit the raft, trying to bite and break the fragile raft.

Lin Feng ruthlessly fired a shot at the shark’s head.

The shot shark did not die immediately. Seeing this, Lin Feng added two more shots, but with the shark retreating into the water, the bullets had almost no penetration.

Soon the raft was dyed red with blood, and it probably wouldn’t be long before other marine predators were attracted.

The severely injured great white shark would probably also be torn apart.

Lin Feng wondered if it would still count as his kill then.

However, just as Lin Feng worried about failing the mission, the great white shark suddenly floated up again for unknown reasons. Lin Feng would not miss this good opportunity and fired at it several more times.

This time it was completely dead, with no good spots left on its body.

Lin Feng gave up the idea of eating its meat. Apart from being riddled with bullets, shark meat was not something one could casually eat, right?

It was not wise to retrieve it now with all the blood in the water, which would soon attract other predators.

As Lin Feng expected, the blood quickly attracted a group of sharks.

The great white shark’s corpse was soon torn into pieces here and there.

“Roar!”

The little Carnotaurus roared at Lin Feng’s leg, likely sensing the threat from the sharks below.

Lin Feng had wanted to collect some seawater, but it didn’t seem feasible now.

“Ding! Congratulations host, mission accomplished. Rewards have been issued.”

Massive martial arts knowledge instantly flooded Lin Feng’s mind.

Soon, Lin Feng absorbed all the information.

His head ached a little, but he was very happy. With his current strength, he could probably take on three or five punks easily.

After eating the great white shark clean, the shark group also left, but the blood mist in the water had not dispersed.

With the sharks gone, Lin Feng returned to the raft.

The elevator would close in half an hour, so he had to find a way to collect some seawater, and try making salt. Otherwise, eating plain roasted meat for a long time made him lose his appetite.

After a while, the blood traces in the seawater finally dissipated slowly. Lin Feng took out his water bottle and filled 5 bottles, 5 liters total, which should yield some salt.

He wondered if the extracted salt would be edible.

“Whatever, I’ll just try first.”

Back in the elevator, Lin Feng placed a pot on the electromagnetic stove, poured in seawater, and waited for it to crystallize.

He prayed this plan would work.

“Damn, why does it feel cold again?”

Seeing the thin ice on the water, Lin Feng shivered.

He felt the temperature had probably dropped below zero now.

At this time, the person with a thermometer in the chat room also updated the latest temperature in real time.

[Bros, latest temperature, it’s -5°C here now. I feel like I might have a fever, anyone got medicine?!]

[Don’t say anymore, even if we had medicine, we couldn’t sell it!]

[I’m really convinced! I can’t even eat my fill now, and the damn difficulty just keeps increasing?!]

[I really envy you guys who got to level 3 elevators. You can build fires without worrying about choking to death. I just met a bro who died in his elevator, with a fire beside him. He probably choked on the smoke.]

Below zero already?

Looking at the messages in the chat room, Lin Feng was not too worried. With a no-energy electromagnetic stove for warmth, he didn’t have to worry about freezing to death.

As long as the temperature didn’t drop too crazily, it would be fine.

The stove could still maintain the temperature at this level.

After more than three hours, the seawater in the pot finally dried up, leaving some white crystals behind.

“Can this stuff…really be eaten?” Lin Feng said, uncertain. He remembered seawater contained many impurities that could not be removed by simply evaporating it to get edible salt.

But he had no way to refine it further under current conditions.

Should he…try a taste? Lin Feng looked at the pot’s crystalline residue and thought.

After it dried completely, Lin Feng scraped a layer of crystals from the bottom.

He then stuck out his tongue for a lick.

Instantly, Lin Feng’s taste buds exploded, as if broken.

“Damn! What the hell is this taste!?” Lin Feng quickly rinsed his mouth with water.

How to describe it…salty and bitter, bitter and astringent, with a hint of foot wash water for some reason.

So much for that plan.
