Endless Horde: Through the Eyes of a Godking

Chapter 521: Respite, For now

--

Equipped with the engravings of Cedric's runic formations, the leaders of the Northwestern Camp mobilized to provide help to other guardian camps. The chancellors themselves personally went out to seal the breach.

Alas, the other camps weren't as lucky as the Northwestern Camp...

Since they didn't have Cedric's immediate help, they were absolutely flooded by the void. One has to know that the breach didn't just happen in the northwestern camp; all camps were breached, and all gates were shattered. And this isn't even including the holes and gaps all over the Scarlet Division Wall. Some of those started spewing out large amounts of void energy that spilled in the realm too.

It wouldn't be wrong to say that the realm has now been surrounded by the void energy. Although the amount that spilled isn't nearly enough to swallow or wither the entire realm into nothingness, leaving it alone would still cause catastrophic damage.

Luckily, even though help was late, it still arrived.

When the Paragons of the Northwestern Camp arrived along with the Chancellors, the suppression of the void and damage control immediately started.

The Paragons didn't feel like this was a chore. How can they? All they have to do is dive into the void and let the runic formation work on its own. Not only would it be draining the overflowing void levels on the camps, but the refined energy of the void will also upgrade the quality of the void suits. There's no loss on their side. Hell, it was so easy that even they could hardly believe it!

There were also other Paragons who went out to absorb the void energy that leaked out from the camps. Again, it wasn't much of a chore to them since all they had to do was trace and fly around; the runic formation would do the rest.

This method of suppression and damage control was so easy that some Paragons felt like it would be a shame to seal the gates. If they could spend months or years absorbing the void and upgrading their suits, wouldn't that make them more powerful?

That said, they also understand that they can't risk this right now. And that although the method is working for now, it is in no way in its final form. It was created by Cedric on the fly; it needs further research and refinement before it could truly display its brilliance.

They should be content that they even have a way this effective to use in this situation. Because frankly speaking, there's no way they could've prepared for this level of threat.

The cleanup didn't take long; three days was enough to get rid of the major bulk of the accumulated void spill. The tides have dried out, absorbed, and used to upgrade the suits of the Paragons; at most, only foul breeze was left, and that's something that the other camps can deal with on their own.

All gates had been sealed and reinforced once more. While it's not a permanent fix, it should suffice for a while. This provides the realm some breathing room to recuperate and plan for the future.

For now, this concludes the first instance of the war against the void. And none of it would be possible without Cedric.

Cedric rested well. Unlike the rest, he had a lot of energy to spare even after that entire battle; it's one of the perks of having such an abundant and dense energy source within him.

Yet even as he rested, his mind was immersed in one thing, and that is improvement.

The pressure brought by the Void Prince was horrible, and so was the cost of this battle. But it was also this pressure that allowed him to gain a deeper understanding of his power.

Yes, the Chancellor's gift of knowledge was helpful, but at most, it could only be used as an inspiration. What he realizes on his own would still be way better than that.

Mobilizing large amounts of Chaos Energy at once made him more familiar with how to exert it and use it more efficiently. It also patched up the gaps left in this period of adjustment. After all, Cedric was used to using other energy sources in combat, but now that he's using a new and completely foreign one, he had to relearn everything from the ground up.

Additionally, he had gained a lot of insights into what he could do with this energy. He also personally experienced how much potential it holds.

Its apparent ease at countering the influence of the void through seemingly simple steps opened so many avenues for him to explore. There's so much to unpack in there that he feels overwhelmed and uncertain where to start.

But after relaxing for a bit, Cedric decided to focus on two main things. First was improving his personal strength, and the second was improving the defenses of the camp against the void.

The first focus was understandable. As the sole person in this era who was fortunate enough to have the power of the Ancients, the promotion of his strength becomes even more paramount, not only to himself but to the entire realm as a whole.

He never thought that he'd have this much value in this alliance, and yet somehow, here he was...

And this obviously ties to the second reason. Because if it weren't for this chance, he wouldn't have been able to provide this much relief to his comrades.

Wave after wave of inspirations struck his mind, preventing him from being still. He had already gotten enough rest, and it's better to strike while the iron was hot. So, he went to train and experiment right away.

**

Woosh!

Cedric stood tall heroically. His long and messy golden hair danced vigorously like a wild lion's mane, scattered by the immense power he's radiating.

His eyes shone resplendently with a dark golden brilliance. His clothes billowed through the sheer force of his aura. Air stilled around him, almost turning into mercury with how suppressed it was.

Cedric raised his sword and chopped down. As he exerted his strength, the very fabric of space was sent into chaos around him. In this move, visions of stars, worlds, and galaxies collapsing appeared. The edge of Cedric's sword acted like an unstoppable force that relentlessly severed everything in its path, unobscured by any resistance.

Hundreds of flying swords danced around him at the same time. Each one left a blazing white trajectory, which almost mimics the Milky Way. Each flying sword contained a terrifying piercing power that could chill anyone they encountered. The swords contain Cedric's insights about the new path he's taking, and with their recent improvements after refining void energies, they became even deadlier to his enemies.

Actually, the phenomena that appeared around Cedric as he practiced were suppressed to their limits. With Cedric's current strength, especially once he unleashes his Inner World, these visions will become even more frightening and astonishing. But more importantly, they wouldn't be fake.

Wiping his sweat and calling it a day for his sword training, Cedric found a place to sit down. He caught his breath for a bit, bit on some jerky, drank some water, and once he was rested enough, he returned to his other experiments.

Once again, the flying swords flashed around him. But unlike last time, they're not fueled with the intent of aggression or slaughter. Instead, each one of these flying swords was being used as a brush or an engraving knife to carve runic formations for Cedric's needs.

Cedric had been trying to improve the runic formation lately. Delving into more mysteries while trying to add more actual function to the thing. Of course, this includes improving its efficiency as well.

So far, he has managed to improve the conversion rate by 50% these past couple of days. He also managed to create a way to control the process. Previously, the runic formation could only refine the void and upgrade the item it's directly attached to; also, the efficiency was trash.

Now, users of the runic formation can choose to have the runic formation condense a neutral energy source instead, essentially converting the raw void energy into something they can safely use.

To have made this much progress in just a couple of days, even the Wise Dragons, creatures known for their wisdom, were rendered speechless.

What they didn't know is that this wasn't anything new to Cedric. He had done the same with Demon Souls before. Of course, there's no way Demon Souls can compare with the ferocity and foulness of the Void, but the rules to convert them were relatively the same, so it wasn't that difficult for Cedric to succeed in this part.

But really, this wasn't Cedric's final goal. After all, this was just a remedy at best, not a solution.

What he wanted out of this experiment was to discover a way to canonize what happened to him. Yes, his goal was to figure out a way for others to follow in his footsteps safely, because only then would living beings truly have the chance to become fearless in the face of the void.

Obviously, doing something like this was easier said than done... Explore stories at My Virtual Library Empire
