Chapter 580: Gerald's Adventures IV
--
The residual soul of the fallen Cosmic Level expert never felt so stifled in her life.
Nobody, and she meant NOBODY, has ever made her feel this helplessly upset, and this was saying a lot because she has made some incredibly frustrating enemies when she's still alive, yet none of them got into her head like this one. The worst part? She can't even call him an enemy. Why? Simply because she has lost that qualification already. She's dead, after all. This man could easily kill her with a pinch of his finger, so how can he consider her an enemy?
She knows that she's cornered. Both of them knew that her remaining time was limited, but it's only her problem, not his. After all, he's alive and she's not.
"You are the vilest person I've ever met." She hissed at him, glaring hatefully.
"And you are the stupidest and most pathetic Cosmic Level expert that ever existed, which probably explains why you died filled with regrets." Gerald shot back, hitting where it hurt her the most.
Actually, this wasn't true. This lady was formidable when she was still alive. If Gerald were to do some research, he'd probably hear a tale or two of hers. She wasn't really that pathetic.
Alas, Gerald didn't and never cared about her identity. In his mind, the dead should remain dead. The only reason one would ever leave a lingering statement was because they had regrets that prevented them from passing away in peace. He accused her of this multiple times, and not even once did she refute it, which means that she too falls under this category.
That puts her in a passive position. And in Gerald's mind, she was in no position to demand too much. Yet it's clear that this stupid lady didn't see it this way.
Well, it's a good thing that he has time to spare. Maybe she could learn one final lesson before she fades away completely.
Now that she realized that this man was playing with her, all of her remaining hopes were dashed. She inwardly lamented her unlikeness. Why was it him that got here of all people?
Alas, there was nothing she could do about it except one final thing...
Having made a decision. She summoned her remaining energy, even the ones that were fueling her fading existence.
She decided that since fate was too cruel to her, not even letting her fulfill her last regrets, then nobody deserves her inheritance.
Let it all be destroyed then.
...
...
...?
...!
"W-what? How can this be?" She muttered hollowly.
Gritting her teeth, she tried it again. Yet she failed. Again. Then, she tried again and again, but no matter what she did, all of her attempts failed.
She couldn't blow her and this place up.
Slurp!
The sound of someone slurping some noodles startled her, forcibly pulling her attention back to reality.
And there she saw him again. This time, he's eating noodles and a steaming cup. Seemingly and blissfully unaware of what she's trying to do just now.
That scene ignited a ferocious fury within her. How utterly shameless! How could someone act so indifferently?
"What's up with you!? How can you be like this!?"
She marched right up to his camp, incensed and completely furious. All of her inhibitions were gone. She was so mad that she lost all sense of elegance and breeding.
Screeching like a banshee, her fury caused Gerald's things to topple as if they were tossed around by a storm. Obviously, it was she who did this. Her mind was clouded by anger and desperation, making her completely forget the true status quo here.
"I hate you! I hate this! Why!? Why? Why! You should die! You ruined everything! You—!"
Smack! Boom!
The pain slashed through the hazy fog of her relentless fury. It shocked her system into thinking clearly, yet it also quickly overwhelmed her senses.
But before she could say or do anything, she felt a strong attractive force pulling her towards him. She was completely helpless against it; she couldn't even resist, even though she really wanted to.
That force brought her right in front of him. And with just one look at his expression, she immediately knew that she was screwed because, clearly, he was pissed.
Smack!
Another sharp and searing pain hit her face, shocking her entire spiritual body. If she still had her fleshly body, there is no doubt that that slap would've taken out a few of her teeth.
Boom!
Her spiritual body, once again, crashed into the barrier that isolated the core area of the inheritance plane. She never thought that a day would come where she would regret placing this here. Because if it weren't for it, she wouldn't be in so much pain right now.
And the painful ordeal didn't end there...
Gerald slapped her five times with the same intensity each time. Then, she grabbed her face and slammed her headfirst into the ground hard enough to create a crater where she stood.
Pain overwhelmed her senses, yet it was fear that completely dominated her remaining sanity.
She realized just how much she fucked up now. She has forgotten the real status quo because she allowed herself to be swallowed up by her emotions. Her actions truly and utterly provoked his ire, and now she's paying for it, gravely.
"How unsightly."
His words dripped with pure disdain and coldness as he stared at her shivering and mangled frame. A whimper escaped her lips—an involuntary reaction due to the excessive fear she felt towards him.
"To lose all reason because of a few simple failures...how utterly embarrassing and stupid."
"Does the fact that you couldn't forcibly evict me ever make you think that maybe, just maybe, it's also the reason why you couldn't blow up this place as you wished?"
His words caused her to go completely still.
Seeing this, Gerald sneered and said, "Now, you see it. You're trying to blow this place up? Have you asked for my permission first? You think I'm just going to sit here and do nothing as you potentially drag me down with you? Wow, I didn't think that on top of being stupid, you're delusional too."
Gerald clicked his tongue in irritation. He then, once again, lifted her effortlessly and slammed her head again into the deep crater he formed just to drive the point home. Then, he threw her like a rag to the side as he marched back to his ruined tent and camping materials.
"Kill...me!"
Broken. Humiliated. And utterly hopeless, she states this in a challenging tone. This was her final attempt to save her last bit of dignity before she faded away completely.
"Take...what you want...and kill me."
A cold and mocking laugh was what she got in response.
"Still posturing, eh?" Gerald sneered. "Did you think I'm going to fall for that?"
She saw him sitting down, crossing his legs, and staring at her indifferently. Making her feel like she's nothing but a worthless pest.
"Seeking an easy way out? What? You think that I'll allow you to stain me with bad karma? What wishful thinking."
"No. I won't kill you. I also wouldn't touch that inheritance of yours."
"Like I said before, I want it simply because I think it would be somewhat useful to me, but I don't need it."
"I won't leave either. I'd stay here because I know that while I'm here, nobody else can enter this place, and you don't have much time left.
"I will be the last living person you'd ever see. I am perfectly content to stare at you as you fade away. Whether I receive your inheritance at the end, I'll leave that up to chance. But I can certainly make sure that none of your lingering regrets will be appeased by anybody."
"That's the price of you wasting both of our time."
The lady's eyes constricted in terror as she heard what Gerald had planned all along. Yet even though she now knew...so what? What can she possibly do?
It's already decided that she will fade away soon. Not by his hand and certainly not on her terms either. Anything she did or any ideas she could think of were useless. He's ahead of her by a hundred steps.
Despair gripped her heart. Yet it was still her fear towards him that completely dominated her mind. She never felt this helpless and afraid of someone before.
And perhaps it's this fear that brought her clarity. It humbled her greatly and so painfully that it made her realize many things.
"I just...wanted my inheritor to...help me fix the mess I created in my home..." She stated in between her sobs.
"I...I didn't mean to plunge it into an eternal winter...I wanted to...fix it...but I was ambushed...I'm not seeking revenge...I just want someone's help to...save my home...and if someone can do that...I can pass away in peace...they can have everything I left behind."
There was silence for a while. The lady stopped expecting anything to go well for her anymore because she knows that it won't.
"Now was that so hard? If you had told me that on day one, I would've even taken you with me to witness how I fulfill your request personally."
"Alas, pride comes before the fall. It's a shame you realized it too late."
