Chapter 357: Chapter 363: Courtney the Eavesdropper

Jennifer drove alone to the Hilton Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.

She didn't want to go home today. She didn't want to see that annoying guy at her house.

At the front desk, she booked a luxurious suite and checked in.

Inside the room, she took off her sunglasses and mask, leaning tiredly against the wall.

"Damn it. What have I done today?"

Recalling how she'd wanted to see Martin after work, Jennifer felt a surge of self-loathing for her lack of self-control.

She picked up her phone, scrolled through her contacts, and dialed Courtney Cox's number.

The phone connected, and the background noise was chaotic, like a party in full swing.

"Hello? Courtney? Are you free? I don't know who else to call... I... I'm planning to divorce Pitt!"

"What?!" Courtney exclaimed. "Hold on!"

Footsteps echoed through the receiver as Courtney found a quieter spot.

Her voice softened. "Jennifer, what's going on?"

"Pitt, that jerk, is fooling around again! Damn it, I should've made up my mind a long time ago!"

Courtney didn't sound surprised—this wasn't the first time. "Was it with the maid again?"

"Yes, his taste is always so unique!" Jennifer replied with biting sarcasm.

"Oh my God. I told you before—don't hesitate! Pitt's a jerk who thinks he can control you. Honestly, I think there's something wrong with his brain."

"I should've listened to you." Jennifer sighed. "Now my head's a mess."

"Come back to New York, Jennifer. Cut ties with that scumbag for good!"

"That's what I'm thinking. But... if I divorce Pitt, the media will have a field day laughing at me."

"Let them talk! Your happiness is what matters most. Oh, by the way—how's your little toy boy?"

"What toy boy?" Jennifer paused, then realized Courtney meant Martin. She chuckled. "Don't joke around. He's not some toy boy—he's a big deal!"

"Ooh~ Look at you, jumping to his defense. Did you two even have love scenes together in the film? Don't tell me you caught feelings again!"

"Come on! It's a comedy; there weren't any love scenes."

"Sounds like you're disappointed. You should've rewritten the script, added a steamy scene, and turned fantasy into reality. Oh wow, just imagining it is thrilling!"

Jennifer's mind wandered back to filming their one and only close scene. Her heart skipped a beat.

What's wrong with me? Why am I so... flustered?

She pressed a hand to her chest and muttered dismissively, "I'm not that kind of person!"

Just then, there was a knock at the door.

"Room service."

"Wait a second, Courtney. Someone's at the door."

Jennifer held the phone between her ear and shoulder as she opened the door.

There stood Martin, smiling warmly at her.

"Ah!" Jennifer let out a small scream, dropping her phone to the floor.

"What's happening? Jennifer?!" Courtney's voice shouted from the phone.

The muffled sound of a conversation followed.

"What are you doing here?"

"Helping you fulfill your wish."

"You... You can't! Oh? No…"

Strange sounds ensued.

Back at Courtney's end, she hesitated, debating whether to call for help. But her curiosity got the better of her, and she pressed her ear closer to the phone.

"What the... What's this sound?"

Her imagination ran wild, conjuring the image of two people grappling.

"Oh my God. Who is it? Who is she with?"

Courtney's intense curiosity felt like a thousand tiny claws scratching at her soul. She wanted nothing more than to climb through the phone to see for herself.

She sneaked into a quiet bathroom, away from the ongoing party at her home, and eavesdropped intently.

One hour passed.

Courtney's jaw dropped. Her legs had gone numb, but the sounds from the other end continued.

Who is that guy?!

She was dying to know.

Another thirty minutes passed before her husband, David Arquette, called out.

"Courtney, honey? Where are you? The party's over, and it's time to rest."

"I'm in here!" she shouted, her heart racing as she continued listening to the phone.

The noise on the other end was still steady and rhythmic.

Damn it. Is this man an eternal machine?!

A pang of envy stabbed at her.

The bathroom door rattled. "Courtney, are you okay?" David asked.

"I'm fine! Just a stomachache. I'll be out soon."

"Okay. Don't stay up too late."

Finally, the noises on the other end subsided. Courtney slumped against the toilet, drenched in sweat.

Confirming the line was silent, she hung up and returned to her room. But her mind remained restless as she crawled into bed beside David.

Stretching out a hand, she reached for him.

David froze. "Sorry, sweetheart. Not tonight. I've got an early start tomorrow."

Courtney sighed, disappointed, and turned over to sleep.

In Los Angeles, the sun rose earlier than in New York.

When Jennifer woke, she was nestled like a kitten in Martin's arms, tracing circles on his chest with her finger.

Suddenly, she paused.

"How did you know I was staying here?"

Martin chuckled. "I was worried about you, so I had my bodyguard follow you. As for your room number..."

He grinned mischievously. "The receptionist was smitten with me. She told me everything I asked."

"Really? Impressive!" Jennifer pretended to believe him, though she suspected he'd simply bribed her.

She enjoyed feeling cared for like this.

In truth, Martin hadn't lied. The receptionist was charmed—though it helped that he'd used a bit of magic.

As Martin went to shower, Jennifer heard her phone ringing on the floor. She picked it up, hearing Courtney's frantic voice.

"Who was it? For God's sake, tell me who it was!"

"What? Who are you talking about?"

"The guy who came to your room last night! You... you guys did it, right?"

Jennifer's face flushed. "How do you know that?"

"How do I know? I listened to two hours of your singing!"

Her cheeks burned brighter. "Oh, my God. Why didn't you hang up?!"

"In that situation? Never! Now spill—who was it? Or I'll die of curiosity."

Jennifer hesitated, then giggled like a schoolgirl with a secret. "Fine, it was Martin. Martin Myers. Your so-called 'toy boy.'"

"Oh my God! You two finally hooked up! When did this happen?"

"Last night. He came to comfort me…"

Jennifer shyly recounted the events, skipping over the action scenes.

Courtney groaned in envy. "Damn, you're one lucky woman. I bet Martin's super strong!"

"He is," Jennifer admitted with a dreamy smile.

"Wait! Is that water I hear? Is he still there?"

"Yes, he's in the shower."

"Oh, quick! Take a photo and send it to me!"

"Not a chance!"

Jennifer rolled her eyes dramatically, her heart brimming with joy.
