Chapter 32: Chapter 32: Taming the White Snake
The bullet left the barrel, but to Zhao Kuo's surprise, the powerful sniper rifle round only grazed the white snake's scales, leaving a shallow mark.
Upon closer inspection, he noticed that the scales of this peculiar white snake had a metallic sheen.
"Ranged weapons are ineffective? That's troublesome," Zhao Kuo muttered to himself, frowning slightly.
Most of his combat methods relied on ranged attacks, which was now his biggest weakness. If an enemy closed the distance quickly, he would be at a severe disadvantage.
Taming this white snake had become a necessity!
"Lucky Aura!"
"Lucky Magic Missile!"
Without hesitation, Zhao Kuo activated his Lucky Aura and launched two Lucky Magic Missiles at the white snake.
The snake, which had been entangled with the plush crocodile, let out a pained hiss. Its snow-white eyes locked onto Zhao Kuo, who had just attacked. Abandoning the plush crocodile, it charged straight toward the subway train.
This creature was quite clever!
Although the first carriage was made of more advanced metal, Zhao Kuo wasn't confident it could withstand the white snake's assault.
He immediately closed the window and retreated.
The white snake was incredibly fast. The window had barely shut when its gaping maw slammed into the carriage, its sharp fangs piercing the walls and leaving several jagged gashes!
Zhao Kuo's brow twitched. This creature's strength was beyond what he had anticipated.
Its offensive and defensive capabilities were exceptional. Could it have undergone some strange mutation from guarding the iron ore for so long?
Zhao Kuo stared calmly at the snake's eyes, now just inches away on the other side of the glass, without a trace of panic.
His mind raced as he strategized.
He realized that this white snake was stronger than any physical monster he had encountered before. A direct confrontation was clearly unwise; he needed to outsmart it.
"Tang Yingying, use your bunny and crocodile to distract it and lure it toward me," Zhao Kuo quickly instructed Tang Yingying while rummaging through his storage for usable items.
Tang Yingying nodded and immediately controlled the plush bunny and crocodile, using their agility to attack the snake and draw its attention.
Unfortunately, the plush bunny's attacks couldn't penetrate the snake's defenses. Thankfully, the plush crocodile's fire-breathing ability made the snake wary. The snake quickly coiled itself onto the roof of the train, leaving Tang Yingying hesitant to act.
After all, if they tried to roast the snake, the train would likely suffer as well, and Tang Yingying had no intention of becoming a side dish to the barbecue.
Meanwhile, Zhao Kuo took the opportunity to retrieve a bundle of rope and several metal plates from his storage. He quickly fashioned the plates into hooks on the workbench.
While the snake was distracted, he secured one end of the rope to the control panel inside the carriage and attached the hook to the other end, preparing a simple trap.
"Tang Yingying, when I say 'go,' accelerate the train immediately!" Zhao Kuo instructed tensely as he set up the trap.
Tang Yingying deftly maneuvered the plush crocodile around the train, maintaining a delicate balance—keeping the snake close enough to stay engaged but not so close that it could easily attack.
At the same time, Zhao Kuo opened the carriage door and leaned out halfway.
"Over here, you dumb snake!" Zhao Kuo's voice successfully drew the snake's attention. Its massive head lunged toward him with lightning speed.
Tang Yingying, completely unprepared for Zhao Kuo's risky move, let out a scream, thinking he was doomed.
But Zhao Kuo simply smiled.
Stupid snake, it's time for you to learn that versatility is key!
"Focus Potential!"
The moment Focus Potential was activated, everything around Zhao Kuo seemed to slow down. Watching the snake's gaping maw, he didn't hesitate. He pulled the trigger of the sniper rifle and simultaneously tossed the hooked rope into the snake's mouth.
The inside of the snake's mouth lacked the protection of scales. The sniper bullet tore through its flesh, causing a burst of blood.
As the Focus Potential effect ended, Zhao Kuo quickly retreated back into the train.
With a pained screech, the white snake collapsed, writhing in agony. Its struggles caused the hook to dig deeper into its flesh.
"Drive!" Zhao Kuo shouted.
Without hesitation, Tang Yingying started the train.
As the steam engine roared to life, the train accelerated, dragging the white snake along the tracks and leaving a long trail of blood.
"This should do it…" Zhao Kuo muttered to himself, pulling out the pet collar from his storage.
The collar now showed a 62% success rate, indicating that the snake still had some fight left in it.
Despite such severe injuries, the snake retained its resistance. Its resilience was truly impressive.
Zhao Kuo decided not to use his Luck Points this time. For one, he had just used them and didn't have many left. For another, he wasn't sure if Luck Points could even affect the collar. With only one collar, failure would be a huge loss.
No matter, he had patience.
Zhao Kuo held the sniper rifle, intently observing the snake's condition.
The once-mighty snake now lay lifeless, dragged along by the train. Its scales scraped against the tracks, sending sparks flying.
But the collar's 65% success rate told Zhao Kuo that this clever creature was only playing dead. If he stopped the train and approached, he would face a terrifying counterattack.
Even if he managed to tame it in this state, it would likely require a long recovery period. He had, after all, been quite ruthless.
Tang Yingying controlled the plush crocodile and bunny, following the snake from behind. She didn't know about the collar's success rate, but Zhao Kuo's serious expression told her the snake was still dangerous.
"What now?" Tang Yingying whispered.
"We'll keep dragging it. We have time. It'll eventually break," Zhao Kuo replied with a slight smirk.
Compared to other monsters, this white snake was unnaturally intelligent. It knew to target the leader first and even played dead when in danger. Such cunning would have ended the fight quickly against anyone else.
The only downside was that this prolonged chase meant he couldn't return to the iron ore vein. It was a missed opportunity.
And so, the train continued to drag the white snake along.
The snake showed no signs of struggle, as if it were truly dead. Its metallic scales were worn and damaged, which made Zhao Kuo feel a pang of regret—after all, this was supposed to be his future pet.
Just as the collar's capture success rate reached 83%, the snake suddenly opened its eyes!
It realized that if this continued, it would be dragged to its death. Damn these cunning humans!
With a forceful jerk, the snake tore out the flesh caught by the hook and began to slither away, attempting to escape.
"Trying to run? Not so fast!" Zhao Kuo's eyes lit up. "Tang Yingying, block it! It's on its last legs!"
"Lucky Magic Missile!"
As attacks rained down, the snake let out a pained cry and collapsed to the ground.
The collar's capture probability had now reached 95%!
If they kept attacking, the snake would die. After a moment's thought, Zhao Kuo aimed the collar at the snake and activated it.
