Exorcist in America

Chapter 406: Chapter 406: Takoyaki Treat

Everything was settled.

Outside the blockade, in a relatively quiet open space.

York looked at the car parked there and turned to Higa Makoto, who had been standing by his side, and smiled.

"Let's go back. It looks like you still have some arrangements to make."

York's gaze moved beyond Higa Makoto, resting on a scene about ten meters away, where chaos was mixed with order.

The exorcism was complete, but there were still some complications after the battle.

Although they had entered the domain of Kayako, his attack had already broken through the spatial limitations, reaching into reality, which is why there was some damage outside. This was why he asked Higa Makoto if she could compensate the victims for their losses.

Higa Makoto nodded silently, her face dignified and gentle, which, combined with the scar over her eye and her naturally cool demeanor, made her seem somewhat aloof.

The islanders all thought of their revered lady as a cold person, but only York and Higa Makoto knew what kind of person Higa Makoto truly was.

"Looks like you won't move until you see me leave," York withdrew his gaze and said.

"If there's anything too hard to handle, just tell me. I should be at St. Mary's Cathedral in Tokyo for a while."

Higa Makoto still wore the same expression, clad in the kimono she had not changed out of tonight, her hands clasped in front of her, like a wife waiting for her husband's return. She just watched York and then silently nodded.

Seeing this, York smiled at her, turned, and walked to the car where his driver, Higa Kunyama, was waiting to help him into the back seat.

After closing the door, Higa Kunyama bowed slightly to Higa Makoto, who still hadn't moved, and then jogged to his seat.

Soon, the car slowly drove away under Higa Makoto's watchful eyes.

Until the car disappeared from sight, Higa Makoto still stood there, reaching into her kimono to pull out a rosary. She opened her hand, looking at the cross in her palm while feeling its warmth, in silence.

...

The car had long since left Setagaya Ward and arrived at the entrance of Showa Medical University.

"You're Higa Kunyama, right?" York asked.

Surprised by the familiarity, Higa Kunyama was slightly taken aback, wondering how such an important figure knew his name.

"Yes, Bishop York," his voice rose a bit.

York kindly said, "Could you buy some takoyaki for me?"

"Ah?"

Higa Kunyama was stunned, not expecting such a request, but quickly recovered and respectfully responded without waiting for York to speak again.

"Of course, Bishop York."

"Mm." York turned to look through the car's rearview mirror at Higa Kunyama, who quickly averted his gaze, sitting up straight and focusing on driving. But instead of heading towards St. Mary's Cathedral in Tokyo, he turned in a different direction.

Eventually, he stopped outside a street of snack bars.

"Bishop, please wait a moment," Higa Kunyama said as he unbuckled his seatbelt and respectfully got out of the car.

"Mm, put extra sauce on it."

"Yes!"

York responded, watching Higa Kunyama dash towards the snack street. He recalled memories of the island nation.

Although takoyaki was indeed to his taste, there was an old man who loved it even more than he did, to an almost absurd extent, to the point that York would lose his appetite at the sight of takoyaki.

This old man was none other than Bishop Pedrillo, who governed the large diocese of the island nation.

It was said that this old man and the former saint of the island had met over takoyaki, which led to...

"Too bad he doesn't want to talk about it; I'm actually quite curious about how he ended up with the former saint of the island. It must be a beautiful story," York shook his head, looking out the window.

"But since it's been a long time since we've met, how could I not bring a gift?"

In his view, Higa Kunyama was already running back with a large bag of packaged takoyaki.

...

Tokyo St. Mary's Cathedral.

On the large square outside, York instructed Higa Kunyama to park the car and walked down with the bag of packaged takoyaki.

Higa Kunyama's attempt to open the door was halted, and he stood by the car bowing to York.

"Take care, Bishop York."

"Mm, thank you for your efforts." York patted the tense Higa Kunyama on the shoulder and smiled.

"This money, you can ask Makoto for it, just say I told you to."

Higa Kunyama shuddered; how could he

possibly bring this matter up with the second young lady? It would be like walking into a trap and would take a great effort to escape.

"Heh."

Seeing Higa Kunyama's reaction, York rarely joked.

"I'm just kidding, don't worry. I won't stiff you. I'll speak to Makoto later."

Higa Kunyama dared not refuse; he knew to accept what the superior offered.

"Yes, Bishop York."

York nodded, patted Higa Kunyama's shoulder again, and then turned to head towards the cathedral.

Ahead, the square was decorated with greenery and even a fountain, illuminated by lights to enhance its beauty.

The cathedral in Tokyo really felt modern, with curved walls rising from the ground in an oblique quadrilateral plane, gathering at the top into a horizontal cross-shaped skylight.

From above, it looked like a Latin cross; from below, like a silver bird poised for flight. The bell tower was separate from the main body of the cathedral, reaching a height of 60 meters, like a silver needle piercing the sky.

Thus, the square in front of the cathedral was quite crowded with visitors and strollers, but most were just sitting casually on the ground or beside the greenery and fountains.

It seemed they were specifically out to unwind and relax.

York knew why these people lingered so late; the cathedral, with its holy aura and the additional magical arrays, provided a calming presence that freed them from their troubles.

Such was the benefit of the supernatural; otherwise, this kind of effect and atmosphere would be impossible in his previous world.

Glancing at the quiet crowd gathered around the fountain, York continued towards the cathedral.

Of course, his presence attracted some attention, as the monks guarding the cathedral typically did not allow entry.

But before the onlookers could warn him, they saw the man with the bag enter the guarded area.

"Who is that?"

Seeing the monks bow to him, the onlookers simultaneously wondered.

But York had already entered the uniquely modern yet special St. Mary's Cathedral in Tokyo under their puzzled gazes.

Inside, the vast cathedral was empty.

Illuminated by candles and modern lighting, the richly decorated St. Mary's Cathedral in Tokyo still looked beautiful and sacred.

York's gaze extended forward, spotting a man with half-white hair in the front row to the left.

He walked over slowly and sat on the right side, opening the plastic bag and first taking out his own small packet before handing the entire bag to the old man with closed eyes.

"Want some?"

The old man immediately opened his eyes, sighed, and said, "Getting old, digestion isn't what it used to be."

Despite saying this, he still reached out to take the bag from York, opening it to pick up a skewer and pop a takoyaki into his mouth.

"It's been years since I last had these, ultimately broke my rules because of you," Bishop Pedrillo changed from his usual stern demeanor to look at York beside him, eating.

"I heard you went straight to see Makoto after landing, even joined her to exorcise a ghost with its own domain?"

Mentioning this, Bishop Pedrillo looked at York, almost grinding his teeth.

"York, you better not mess with my daughter! Keep away from her."

York swallowed the chewed takoyaki, looking at Bishop Pedrillo somewhat speechlessly.

"How am I messing with your daughter? I've always seen Makoto as a sister, wasn't that your initial intention when you introduced us?"

Bishop Pedrillo shook his head, sighing.

"What do you know, you straight guy. Had I known, I wouldn't have introduced you at all. Now it seems like inviting the wolf into the house, even Makoto is..."

Stopping there, Bishop Pedrillo looked at the man beside him and felt a twinge of heartache.

Back then, this guy just clapped his hands and left, but he didn't know his daughters were depressed for many days before they recovered, and since then, they've been very cold towards other men.

It was clear what was happening, and how could he, as a father, not understand.

Hearing this, York simply didn't reply, reaching for another skewer to pop a takoyaki into his mouth.

The scene fell silent for a moment, only their chewing sounds filling the air.

But eventually, Bishop Pedrillo broke the silence.

"When are you going in?"

York replied indifferently, "I'll check the situation with the paranormal events outside first, then decide."

"Do you want to go and see?" Bishop Pedrillo put the plastic bag away, looking at York who also finished his takoyaki.

"No need, since you've already seen it, it's probably just as you described."

York looked at the image of Jesus in front of him, calmly saying.

"Bishop Pedrillo, what I can see, it's still very quiet there, just like it

's asleep, no fluctuations, no breath."

Bishop Pedrillo sighed, "If only we could help you, but unfortunately..."

"It's okay." York smiled.

"I also enjoy exploring the unknown."

Bishop Pedrillo nodded, preparing to leave.

"It looks like you might need to pray a bit, York. Your place is still the same, just handle things as you see fit."

"Alright." York said, "Bishop Pedrillo, don't forget about my deacons."

"Don't worry about that." Bishop Pedrillo had already turned around, looking back at York and calmly saying.

"Your deacon, Sister Eileen, is quite capable and has already been in touch with us."

After saying this, Bishop Pedrillo left, giving York an even quieter environment.

Because of Bishop Pedrillo's words, York couldn't help but think of Eileen.

"My deacon sister is certainly capable."

York murmured to himself with a smile, looking at the image of Jesus and closing his eyes to complete his daily tasks before the day was over.

Tonight, what he regretted most was that exorcising Kayako, a famous ghost, did not trigger a random task.

"Lord, I almost forgot to tell you about today's story. I hope you can forgive me."

York prayed in his heart.

After a while, as Sister Eileen appeared beside the altar, York opened his eyes and crossed himself.

"Amen."

"Bishop." Seeing this scene, the familiar Sister Eileen spoke.

"Have they made the arrangements?" York smiled, hearing the daily task completion notification in his ear.

Eileen understood her bishop's meaning: "Yes, Hannah and Alessa are tired from playing and have already gone to bed early. Brother Hilary is still organizing his research, and Brother John has not yet returned."

Hearing this, York raised an eyebrow, thinking about his guess regarding John Wick.

It looked like John Wick really did go to pay respects to a friend, but did John Wick really have true friends after his sniper buddy died?

Thinking this, York got up from the bench and walked towards the inner aisles, with Eileen silently following.

"Eileen, check the situation in the island nation for me tomorrow. I need to know the range of their paranormal events," York said as he walked with his hands behind his back.

He was quite sure of Higa Makoto's character. Unless it was something that could cause a global disaster, she wouldn't ask for his help.

Just because her father was Bishop Pedrillo, she was very stubborn.

"Yes, Bishop." Eileen's voice came from behind.

York nodded, adding the newly acquired and accumulated two attribute points to his vitality.

[Attribute Increase Successful]

[Vitality from 379 to 381]

"As for the rest, you go back and rest early as well," York said kindly.

"It's already very late."

As his words fell, Eileen stopped, bowing slightly, watching her bishop leave.

"Yes."
