Chapter 75: Two Junior Sisters (Part 2)
“You Su, tell us what happened!”
When Liu Nengwu saw You Su return, he immediately approached with concern, eager to ask. The others around him did the same, their ears pricked up.
You Su led Ji Lingruo back to their spot and said in a nonchalant tone, “Uncle Liu, I’m blind—what could I possibly know? If there’s anything important, they’ll tell us.”
Seeing his demeanor, Liu Nengwu realized it must be something that couldn’t be discussed casually. He stopped asking further questions and began whispering to those nearby.
Even without knowing the full details, just the phrase “Sect Leader Qi has turned into an evil spirit” was enough to leave these civilians trembling with unease for the entire night.
“Senior Brother… it’s so scary…” Ji Lingruo murmured softly, still shaken.
“Was Sect Leader Qi’s transformation into an evil spirit really that frightening?”
You Su held Ji Lingruo’s delicate hand, his thumb gently stroking the smooth skin as if caressing a fine piece of jade.
He inwardly chuckled; by now, holding his junior sister’s hand had become second nature to him.
Ji Lingruo squeezed his fingers slightly, applying some pressure. “It wasn’t just that… but it wasn’t the monster itself that scared me…”
“Then what were you afraid of?”
“I was afraid… that one day, I might turn into something like that.”
You Su paused for a moment before replying firmly, “That won’t happen. And even if it does, Senior Brother will wake you up.”
Ji Lingruo’s gaze faltered for a moment. She looked up at You Su and whispered in an almost inaudible voice, “If it’s to save you, I’d willingly become like that. But if I can never wake up again, I only hope Senior Brother…”
You Su pressed his lips tightly together. He could vaguely guess what she was about to say, but he dreaded hearing her hesitation take form, so he hesitated to respond.
Ji Lingruo naturally rested her head on You Su’s shoulder and continued, “I only hope Senior Brother will personally kill me…”
You Su’s heart skipped a beat. Without realizing it, he tightened his grip on Ji Lingruo’s hand, causing her pain.
“Ouch,” Ji Lingruo muttered softly.
You Su snapped out of it and quickly began massaging her hand. “Sorry, Junior Sister.”
But Ji Lingruo suddenly smiled brightly, her crescent-moon-like eyes twinkling like the radiant waxing moon in the night sky. She placed her hand over You Su’s restless one, her tone unusually solemn. “Promise me, Senior Brother.”
You Su froze for a moment, then nodded gently. “Mm.”
With the promise made, Ji Lingruo fell silent. The two leaned against each other quietly, their hearts seemingly pressed close together.
…
You Su opened his eyes.
The spider web on the beam above was still there, and the long-absent spider had finally appeared, while the trapped insect trembled helplessly, unable to escape.
You Su found this strange. This should have been his dream, but the level of detail felt overwhelmingly vivid—even an inconspicuous corner of the beam bore a realistic cobweb.
He couldn’t make sense of it, nor did he understand how he had ended up here again. Given their current situation outside, he shouldn’t have let his guard down enough to fall asleep.
As he sat up, he was astonished to find the monster version of his junior sister standing beside his bed, just as she had before.
“Junior Sister, you can come out now?” You Su asked, surprised yet pleased.
“Mm.” The monster version of Ji Lingruo tilted her head slightly and nodded.
“Does that mean you’re better?”
She didn’t answer, merely shaking her head.
You Su’s joy faded slightly, replaced by guilt. “I thought that since you were able to leave your room, it meant you were feeling better.”
Outside, You Su had tried his best to avoid mentioning anything related to the monster version of Ji Lingruo, assuming that the real Ji Lingruo still hadn’t fully realized she was missing part of her consciousness.
“Mm. Staying indoors, sleeping alone—it does feel more comfortable.”
“Then why didn’t you go back to rest?”
“How could I possibly resist seeing you?” The monster version of Ji Lingruo’s mandibles twitched slightly, and her body began secreting the familiar sticky fluids once again.
You Su couldn’t help but recall the day when the monster version of Ji Lingruo confessed to him, saying, “How could I possibly hide from you forever?” Those words had pierced his heart deeply.
Regardless of appearance or which consciousness dominated, both versions were his cherished junior sister. Rising to his feet, he forcefully embraced the massive, slimy mass of flesh in front of him. His arms weren’t even long enough to meet around her.
The Tai Sui version of Ji Lingruo was clearly startled. Her six fish-like eyes widened, revealing terrifying whites.
She seemed incredulous and uneasy, her mandibles slightly parted. For a moment, she didn’t know how to react and simply allowed herself to be held.
But this tender moment lasted only briefly. Before You Su could ask the questions lingering on his mind, the world around him began to shift, plunging him into endless darkness.
The Tai Sui version of Ji Lingruo stood rooted in place, powerless as You Su was sucked into a black vortex. Once the vortex vanished, the empty room was left with only her.
Her head drooped, like a withered tree.
Suddenly, a voice rang out—not from any particular direction but echoing throughout every corner of this space.
“Why aren’t you hiding in your room? What are you doing coming out here!”
The voice was angry, impatient, and filled with reproach. Even without careful listening, it was clear that the voice sounded exactly like Ji Lingruo’s.
The Tai Sui version of Ji Lingruo seemed to realize she had done something gravely wrong. Bowing her head, she muttered self-reproachfully, “I just wanted to come out and see him…”
“What good is wanting? Do you even deserve to see him?”
“But… I am his junior sister! Why don’t I deserve to see him?” The Tai Sui version of Ji Lingruo’s tone grew firmer.
“Have you not looked in the mirror to see what you look like now? I warned you—this is Senior Brother’s dream, and he can see you! You’re so ugly, yet you dare come out—isn’t that trying to scare him to death? And you tricked him into hugging you. Aren’t you disgusted with yourself?”
“I…” The Tai Sui version of Ji Lingruo examined her own body from top to bottom. Her confidence wavered, and her voice took on a sobbing tone. “But this isn’t my body—it’s yours…”
“Shut up!”
The voice brutally interrupted her and screamed hysterically, “This isn’t me! This is what you’ve become!”
The Tai Sui version of Ji Lingruo fell silent, but the voice pressed on relentlessly. “I warned you—you willingly accepted my power! You, who could do nothing but watch as Senior Brother was bullied, should stay hidden here! Don’t entertain any delusions. After Senior Brother falls into this layer of the dream, stay in your room, don’t come out, and don’t speak! I’ll naturally send Senior Brother away!”
The Tai Sui version of Ji Lingruo couldn’t help but recall that day when she struggled on the brink of unconsciousness, sensing the overwhelming murderous intent directed at You Su by everyone around her—but she could do nothing.
A voice suddenly asked within her mind: Do you want to save Senior Brother? If you do, close your eyes completely.
Without hesitation, she obeyed.
