Chapter 5 - Awakening
Chapter 5: Awakening
His consciousness sank.
Xu Yuan felt as though he had been cast into an endless void, enveloped by infinite darkness and cold.
His senses vanished.
Time ceased to flow.
He didn’t know how long he remained there. Loneliness and despair permeate his entire being.
Had he… died?
Xu Yuan believed that he must have died.
Being cared for by that clueless ice block of a woman while suffering from hypothermia and fever leaves little to no chance for him to survive.
No matter how much he had feared death in his previous life, when it actually arrived, there was only a sense of relief.
In this moment, Xu Yuan even thought that death wasn’t so bad.
He could feel a warm sensation continuously flowing around his lips, some of it even entering his mouth.
It was liquid.
Somewhat fishy, yet also sweet.
It tasted good.
Like parched soil finally being moistened by sweet rain, the urge to swallow and suck overwhelmed all other instincts.
As this warm, sweet-metallic liquid continued to enter his body, waves of warmth began to spread throughout his limbs, dispelling the bone-chilling cold.
Hmm?
Wait.
If he were dead, how could he still drink?
With this strange thought, his lost senses began to return one by one. Finally, he clearly heard the sound of his parched throat swallowing liquids.
He slowly opened his eyes. His unfocused vision made the scene before him blurry and distorted.
Accompanied by the swallowing sounds, the image captured by Xu Yuan’s semiconscious eyes gradually came into focus.
He saw those clear, calm eyes.
His hazy consciousness made it difficult to grasp the situation. He stared at the woman for two seconds, then subconsciously tilted his head.
As soon as he moved, a cold, small hand pressed against his head, preventing him from moving.
It was Ran Qingmo.
Xu Yuan opened his mouth to speak but then noticed the spout of a water skin inserted between his lips. A warm liquid continuously flowed down his throat.
As his consciousness gradually cleared, Xu Yuan slowly clenched his fist and began to struggle, but her strength was too great.
Being force-fed wasn’t a pleasant experience, especially with the long spout of the waterskin relentlessly pouring liquid down his throat.
Their eyes met.
Xu Yuan tried his best to swallow while blinking his eyes rapidly.
Ran Qingmo blinked back, then nodded at him.
Xu Yuan: “…”
After a dozen seconds of silence, his face gradually reddened as the sound of gulping filled the cave.
At this moment, Xu Yuan finally understood why his girlfriends had slapped his thigh so hard in his previous life.
Once the liquid was gone, Ran Qingmo put away the water skin and silently stood up to leave.
After she left, the restraint disappeared.
The sensation of suffocation made Xu Yuan gasp for air as if he had been reborn. He slowly sat up and was about to unleash a torrent of profanity, but before he could speak, he lifted his hand in surprise to look at his body.
With the intake of that liquid, his previously ice-cold body had begun to warm up. The heat spread rapidly, visibly radiating from his stomach to his limbs, gradually dispelling the accumulated cold within his body.
This unprecedented new experience was a hundred times more effective than any medicine from his previous life.
“What… what did you feed me?”
Xu Yuan’s voice was still hoarse when he spoke, but nowhere near as weak as before.
As he spoke, he looked towards Ran Qingmo’s retreating figure and suddenly realized that the cave had become much warmer with a faint mist permeating the air.
Just as his curiosity piqued, Xu Yuan’s gaze swept across a sight that nearly made him pass out.
Since his dimensional travel, each time he woke up had been pushing the limits of Xu Yuan’s psychological and physiological limits.
The cave entrance was an oval with a radius of about two meters, and this ordinary cave entrance was now almost completely blocked by a gigantic head.
It was a giant python.
Two fangs protruded from its mouth, and its half-lidded snake eyes stared eerily into the cave. Its scales were fiery red, like burning flames. A single horn on its head emitted a faint golden glow, and massive fleshy wings on both sides of its head pulsated gently with each breath.
Rain poured down on this giant python—or rather, snake demon’s body—the high temperature of its scales immediately created rising plumes of steam.
Mist filled the air, making the cave seem like a celestial realm.
What was this?
Xu Yuan struggled to his feet and slowly retreated backward.
The first thing he saw upon waking up was a giant python staring at him from close range.
This was a sight that was difficult to swallow from his modern perspective.
Weren’t transmigrations supposed to come with a beginner’s village for adjustment?
Was this cave-blocking giant python something one would encounter in a beginner’s village?
While Xu Yuan was reeling from shock, his peripheral vision caught the graceful figure in black leaping onto the serpent demon’s enormous head.
Through the misty rain, aided by the faint light filtering through the downpour, Xu Yuan followed the black-clad figure’s movements and saw behind the serpent’s head a massive ice spike, as clear and translucent as crystal.
An enormous ice spike that had pierced through the vital point of the massive snake demon outside the cave, pinning it to the ground!
Ran Qingmo placed the spout of the water skin against the sharp horn on the snake demon’s head and tapped its hard scales with her sword scabbard.
The giant serpent closed its eyes as if resigned to its fate. Droplets of golden liquid began to seep from its horn, flowing down the spout and trickling into the waterskin.
Once the waterskin was full, the serpent demon’s aura had clearly weakened significantly.
Ran Qingmo jumped down from the snake demon and handed the water skin to Xu Yuan.
Xu Yuan accepted it with a blank expression, still unable to process what he was seeing.
After giving Xu Yuan the water skin, Ran Qingmo surveyed the cave, blinked twice as if remembering something, then silently turned and ran into the rain.
Staring blankly in the direction she had disappeared, Xu Yuan’s frozen mind slowly began to function again.
Looking at the giant python blocking the entrance, he realized that to save him, this ice block of a woman had beaten this creature half to death and dragged it back.
The rain continued to drizzle, obscuring the woman’s figure completely.
About a minute later, Ran Qingmo returned from the rain carrying a large bundle of wet firewood, immediately creating splashes of water on the dry cave floor.
Ignoring Xu Yuan’s surprised gaze, Ran Qingmo placed the bundle of firewood about two meters away from him and silently arranged it in a bonfire formation.
She seemed to be preparing to start a fire with wet wood.
Watching her actions, Xu Yuan smiled faintly, instinctively preparing to dissuade her.
But just then, Ran Qingmo had already darted over to the giant serpent’s head. With her usual cold gaze, she tapped its head with her sword scabbard.
The giant python, seemingly cowed, shrank back as it looked at Ran Qingmo, then opened its mouth and extended its thin, slithering tongue.
Instantly, a wave of scorching heat rose within the cave.
The bundle of soaked wood dried at a visible rate, and then, with the slightest touch of the thin snake tongue against the firewood—
A flame illuminated the cold stone walls of the cave.
Xu Yuan opened his mouth, then silently swallowed back the words he had been about to say.
