Chapter 24: chaptet24 - The Protagonist's Behavior (Laughs
"Senior Erend?"
Looking at Erend, who appeared in front of him, Kane was stunned.
"Is it you?"
Jenni Ortega also saw Erend and spoke in surprise.
The audience around them looked at each other for a moment before speaking.
"It's [Swift Wind Blade Lightning] and [Wave Star Magic Sword]...!"
"They are here too?"
"What just happened...?"
"An attack?"
Everyone was talking about it.
"Are you okay?"
Butler also ran over, looking nervous. Those who didn't know the situation might have thought that the two cold arrows just now were related to him.
"Are you okay?"
Erend glanced at Butler before looking at Kane and asking.
"I-I'm fine." Kane finally reacted, bowed to Erend, and said, "Thank you, senior, for saving me just now."
Hearing this, Erend did not seem too appreciative.
"Even if I wasn't there, you should have been able to react in time." Erend put away the Black Furnace Demon Sword and said, "On the contrary, I might have been meddling too much."
Thinking about it carefully, how could a cold arrow possibly harm the number one student in this academy?
But before he could think, he subconsciously moved, and Erend, who was slightly late, helplessly spread his hands.
"No... Ah! By the way!"
Kane shook her head repeatedly at Erend before turning to Jenni Ortega and timidly asked,
"Is Senior Sister okay?"
This question finally made Jenni Ortega realize what had happened.
"I'm fine." Jenni Ortega looked at Kane, then at Erend, sighed, and said seriously, "It seems I was saved by you. Thank you."
As she said that, Jenni Ortega unexpectedly bowed slightly to Erend and Kane to express her gratitude.
"No, no need."
Kane shook her head, looking a little shy.
"It was Kane who saved you, not me."
Erend naturally had no intention of taking credit. When Jenni Ortega lowered her head, he turned to the side and avoided the salute.
Erend actually didn't expect things to develop this way.
This wasn't how it happened in the original storyline. Kane shouldn't have been here, and he had nothing to do with this place. The one who was supposed to save Jenni Ortega was Butler, who was standing beside her, and there was no role for them at all.
So, when he saw Kane rushing out to save Jenni Ortega, Erend was quite surprised.
"It seems that the butterfly effect brought by me, an outsider, is beginning to unfold."
Erend thought to himself.
While Erend was lost in thought and Kane was feeling restless, Jenni Ortega remained serious.
"Regardless, the fact is that you saved me, and I will remember this favor."
As she said this, Jenni Ortega turned her head and glared at Butler.
"And you, our duel isn't over yet!"
Hearing this, Butler showed a bitter expression again.
"Uh… can't we just let this go?"
Butler tried to negotiate.
He didn't want to fight Jenni Ortega anymore. It felt like he had provoked a human cannon and was almost blown to pieces.
If the fight continued like that, he would have no choice but to remove the seal within his body to avoid being burned to charcoal.
"Don't even think about backing out!" Jenni Ortega snapped angrily. "I've already done you a favor by not reporting you to the guards. If you don't even dare to accept the duel, don't blame me!"
The implication was that if Butler refused the duel, she would report him to the authorities.
If that happened, Butler would earn the title of "pervert who broke into the girls' dormitory" on the very first day of his transfer—a title that even Erend wouldn't be interested in.
"I..."
Butler opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but upon seeing Jenni Ortega's determined expression, he could only give up.
"Um… please calm down, both of you."
Seeing this, Kane, who was standing by, looked a little at a loss.
It was easy to imagine that, with her temperament, she wouldn't be able to handle such a situation.
As for Erend… well, he was still enjoying the show.
Fortunately, at the critical moment, a savior appeared.
"Anyway, how about we stop gathering here?"
A chuckle broke in, easing the tension.
"You are all excellent students ranked among the top in our school. If you continue to stay here, more and more people will gather to watch, right?"
The one who interrupted with a chuckle was none other than Claudia.
The beautiful student council president made a grand entrance, basking in the gasps of the crowd and diverting most of the attention from Erend and the others.
"Claudia!"
"President!"
Jenni Ortega and Kane reacted to Claudia's arrival—one showing displeasure, and the other quickly bowing in respect.
When Erend looked at Claudia, he examined her face closely.
At first glance, Claudia seemed no different from before, with a calm and composed smile on her face.
Erend couldn't detect anything unusual, which made him wonder if she was just pretending to obey him.
"It's been a while since that night… I wonder how she's doing now."
Unfortunately, Claudia seemed completely normal. There was no sign of anything out of the ordinary, which made Erend doubt whether his actions had affected her at all.
"Who are you…?"
Butler, the only one present who had not met Claudia before, seemed slightly dazed by her beauty and elegance and asked cautiously.
"Hello, Butler." Claudia greeted Butler as if she had known him for a long time and said with a smile, "I am Claudia Enfield, the student council president of this academy."
"Claudia." Jenni Ortega interrupted, not hiding her displeasure, and said, "Why did you come in? Are you trying to stop my duel?"
"In principle, as long as a duel is agreed upon by both parties, no one can interfere. That is the rule." Claudia smiled at Jenni Ortega. "But something seems to have happened just now. Even Kane and Erend got involved. Why don't we stop here first?"
Jenni Ortega frowned deeply but did not argue.
"Student Council President." Butler hesitated for a moment before speaking to Claudia. "Earlier, someone seemed to have attacked in secret. Is that allowed?"
With Butler's words, the topic smoothly shifted.
"That is, of course, unacceptable. I will instruct the discipline committee to investigate the scene." Claudia said before turning to Erend and Kane. "Erend and Kane were the first to notice the attack. Did you see the attacker?"
Erend was the first to respond.
"I didn't see the attacker. I only noticed Kane reacting strangely, which made me aware that someone was shooting arrows."
Erend's words made everyone turn to look at Kane.
"U-um..."
Being stared at by so many seniors, Kane's nervousness increased, and she spoke timidly.
"I-I only saw someone holding a crossbow-type heavy-colored weapon at the window of that building, aiming at Senior Jenni Ortega. The person was wearing a black robe, so I couldn't see their face..."
The direction Kane pointed to was quite far, and when everyone looked over, they couldn't clearly see the window.
"Kane has really sharp eyes," Claudia said in surprise.
"I-I've had good eyesight since I was a child. My family always said I tend to see strange things," Kane said shyly, which made everyone think she was rather adorable.
Especially Butler, who even raised his hand for a moment before quickly putting it down—an action that made Erend look at him strangely.
Was this guy trying to use the "head-pat" move to win Kane over?
