Fatal DesireS

Chapter : Prologue

Jessica Wazer had always known pain.

It was kind of like that pesky itch you just can't scratch... forever there, shaping her every waking moment.

But let's rewind a bit, back to the beginning where things were both charming and tragic.

Born into a middle-class family, Jessica was her father's sunshine, his most beloved child.

Until, of course, the universe had other plans. Her mother passed away when Jessica was still a toddler... an absence that felt like a cartoon character slipping on a banana peel, leaving behind a dramatic void that just wouldn't go away.

When her father, Mr. Wazer, found love again and remarried, Jessica felt that familiar spark of hope.

Surely, she thought, a new mother figure would fill that gap!

But hope, as it turns out, can be as elusive as a cat at bath time.

In those early days, Lovelyn, her stepmother, played the role perfectly.

She showered Jessica with love, dressed her in the cutest outfits, and even braided her hair into a style that made her feel like a princess (or at least, a budget version of one).

"My little angel!" Lovelyn would coo, and Jessica would bask in the warmth of that affection, thinking life was finally on the up and up.

But, spoiler alert: that love was about as stable as a three-legged stool.

The moment Lovelyn cranked out her own twins, a boy and a girl... Jessica found herself demoted from "little angel" to "that girl who can clean up the toys."

Things took a darker turn when Mr. Wazer passed away.

Suddenly, the family was "in ruins," or at least that's what Jessica was told.

The inheritance? Merely crumbs, they said! The house was a fixer-upper from the 1800s, and bank accounts? Practically empty.

Cue Jessica, barely old enough to know how to boil water, thrown into the workforce, juggling jobs like a circus performer just to keep her stepmother and siblings afloat.

But here's the kicker: the truth was a plot twist straight out of a thriller.

A secret fortune lay buried in her father's past, gnawed away at by Lovelyn's greed and a corrupt lawyer who, quite frankly, should have known better.

Jessica believed herself drowning in poverty while her stepmother was secretly swimming in a pool of gold coins like Scrooge McDuck.

While Jessica busted her tail to make ends meet, Lovelyn lived in a world of luxury, letting her stepdaughter suffer in silence.

And outside, the world was no picnic either.

Between the scornful glances and whispered judgments, Jessica began to feel like a walking punchline.

With her mismatched clothes and perpetually exhausted expression, she was like a "Before" photo in a makeover ad, just waiting for the miracle that never came.

Dreams? Oh, she had them... grander than a dog chasing its own tail, but they felt as reachable as the moon on a string.

But just when she thought fate had written her story as a tragedy, a little twist of irony decided to step in.

One fateful night, after another grueling shift, she wandered home, her feet dragging and her heart weighed down by the day's reality.

Then she stumbled upon a scene straight out of a horror movie, a bloodied man, laying in the shadows, looking as though he had been through a blender.

Jessica paused, her instincts screamed at her to turn back, to pretend she had seen nothing and keep walking.

The city was rife with dangerous characters, and getting involved felt like signing up for a roller coaster ride she hadn't anticipated.

But in that moment, something stirred inside her.

With determination that surprised even herself, Jessica stepped forward.

And just like that, her life took a turn she never expected.

Stay tuned for what happens next!
