Chapter 595: C595
"Roar roar roar roar roar----!!!"
Heracles raised his head skyward, bellowing furiously.
Six gigantic black arms grew from Shirou's back, taking out six 60-meter Ig-Alimas.
He pounced, the six greatswords smashing at Heracles like gigantic mountains.
Facing the barrage, Heracles was fearless. He unleashed an ear-splitting roar.
"Boom boom--"
The six swords smashed continuously on Heracles' body, making him look like a rag doll but he wasn't smashed to death, the greatswords were taking damage instead, chipped from striking Heracles.
It was like hacking at orichalcum - the tremendous force caused the slashing swords to chip from vibration!
"Roar roar roar--"
Heracles bellowed as he stood resolute upon the earth. Grabbing the severed Ig-Alima, he attempted to slam Shirou down using his waist strength.
Sensing violent shaking from the blade, Shirou hurriedly released his grip on the sword.
Heracles slammed the 60-meter blade into the ground. "Boom--" the earth quaked as if struck by an earthquake!
Witnessing the spectacle, the Yggdmillennia Masters were dumbstruck.
It was as if a god crashed entire mountains down!
Shirou didn't dare linger at 60-meters. Such height was far too dangerous! Facing top-tier Heroic Spirits, the only place he could barely hold ground was the sky itself!
Arjuna glared at him with cold eyes as Shirou quickly took to the air. He drew back his divine bow. In a flash, the arrow was loosed, swift as light itself.
Danger!
Shirou instinctively sensed the threat, immediately firing up the ten magical energy jet propulsors on his back to accelerate forward.
The air burned as the shining arrow just barely grazed past him.
His mind reeled - Arjuna's attack clearly overwhelmed his C-rank Protection from Arrows. What's more, it had been aimed straight at his temple, a lethal blow that likely could have penetrated even his black mud. Just one accurate hit there would have meant certain death. Fortunately, he had cast all sorts of buffs on himself before the fight had even started. If Mash could see his status window now, she'd probably be dazzled by the extensive list of his skills!
Because...there were far too many to count!
Among them was the Instinct he had copied from Artoria.
And that innate sense of peril was precisely what allowed him to narrowly avoid catastrophe just now.
Suddenly—
"Shick!" An enormous wooden stake violently burst out from Shirou's abdomen, not only piercing through his body but also breaking through the black mud armor.
Blood flowed from around the massive wooden stake. Shirou gazed at it, astonished. The black armor...was penetrated by Kazikli Bey?
Vlad slowly lowered his hand, his right arm still bearing the bloody gash left by the Death Scythe. Crimson blood continuously trickled from the wound.
He stared calmly at Shirou. "You underestimate me too much, Assassin."
"Fizz fizz fizz..." The enormous wooden stake protruding from Shirou's abdomen corroded away into nothingness, the wound healing from the black mud. But the pain still throbbed within.
Shirou looked down at Vlad from the sky, frowning. "I see...you gathered and condensed thousands of stakes before spearing out!"
"To see through this king's methods with but a glance, those eyes of yours are truly formidable. Indeed, it is just as you deduced," Vlad nodded, affirming his guess.
"Your insight also earns my admiration," Shirou said with a sigh. "To so quickly realize the flaw behind this armor."
The black armor could curse away and break down the wooden stakes from Kazikli Bey, but with Vlad gathering and condensing thousands together, their nature changed, unable to be dissolved instantly by the black mud - and that was the key to penetrating the armor.
Those who left their names in glorious human history truly aren't easy to deal with, Shirou sighed internally.
However—
Facing his praise, Vlad said: "Likewise..."
Before he could even finish speaking, his expression abruptly changed as he hurriedly dismounted, rolling on the ground. The next moment, a black hand burst out from underground, wielding a dagger that stabbed straight into the warhorse's belly before slowly retracting back into the earth.
The warhorse whinnied once before dissipating into spiritual particles. Vlad's expression was heavy as he stared at the empty space where his mount had been. If he hadn't dodged quickly just now, he might've been impaled from below!
"What a pity..." Shirou sighed.
Just then, Arjuna shot another arrow, forcing him to evade again. Using one black mud hand to carry Mash, he turned to look at her.
"Master, pay attention to your positioning. Be clear on your own abilities and understand what you can do."
"Oh... Got it!" Mash hurriedly nodded.
Not daring to descend, she could only stay in the sky, her mind a chaotic mess as she struggled to comprehend her role. She felt like an attendant straying into a gathering of kings, completely clueless about what was expected of her.
But remembering Shirou entrusting his life to her before the battle, she gritted her teeth, forcibly calming her mind to think about what she should do.
Seeing Mash start to contemplate things through, Shirou felt slightly relieved. But facing the four enemies staring up at him still gave him a headache.
"Looks like I was still asking for too much..." Shirou sighed, before his expression steeled with utmost seriousness and resolve. "But I must defeat them! At the very least, make them follow my orders!"
The black mud surged from his body, forming a towering giant over 60-meters tall that dropped from the skies towards the ground.
"Boom!!"
The earth shook violently! Dust and debris blasted over 20 meters into the air!
...
Thanks to Vlad's cooperation, Gray and Nero went to the underground chamber beneath the Millenia castle to inspect the state of the Grail.
This should have been simple, but ever since arriving in this world, Gray had been unable to contact Chaldea. It was as if peculiar magnetic fluctuations interfered with Chaldea's system.
Thus, some functions became unavailable on Gray's personal terminal. One such function was the investigative feature for inspecting Grail conditions that Chaldea developed for dealing with Holy Grail.
Unable to use it, Gray could only manually check the Grail's status and confirm whether it belonged to the Council or not.
"Come to think of it, it seems Mash has walked out from her self-blame somewhat huh, Gray?" Nero suddenly spoke up.
Without stopping her work, Gray gently responded: "Isn't that a good thing, Your Highness?"
"You make a fair point," Nero mused, then nodded: "She was really too hard on herself. Back then, what she and Fujimaru faced was the Demon King. Resulting in that kind of outcome wasn't something that could be helped. Whether as a Servant or as a Master, she was still completely green after all. Fujimaru didn't blame her either. Furthermore, her refusing to let her continue as her Servant was also meant to protect her right? Unlike us Heroic Spirits, she's still alive after all."
"The child herself already understands this," Gray sighed, then continued: "What she can't get over is her past self—too afraid in the face of the Demon King to even unleash her Noble Phantasm."
Nero asked, puzzled, "Hasn't she always been unable to use it?"
Gray shook her head, "The King of Knights said when Galahad's Saint Graph was handed to Mash, there were no constraints stopping her from using it. What's limiting her is her own mentality."
Nero nodded thoughtfully.
"That's enough, hurry up and check things," Gray urged.
Hearing this, Nero chuckled: "This is the Master's job, it's got nothing to do with me! Still, I wonder why we can't contact Chaldea at all?"
"Probably dimensional fluctuations. Illya and I ran into this during a mission before," Gray explained. Nero nodded in understanding.
Just then—
"Boom!" The earth shook violently!
"What's going on?" Gray and Nero looked at each other, astonished.
