Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Unraveling the Truth
Amelia just stood there in daze. Kael stood beside her, his presence solid and unwavering. His eyes were fixed on the shadows where the wolf had disappeared, his jaw clenching as if he was preparing for something, Amelia wasn't sure what. His earlier words echoed in her mind, repeating over and over again like a haunting refrain.
Amelia turned her gaze to him, her throat tight with unspoken questions. "What just happened? What was that…creature?
Kael's lips pressed into a thin line, his eyes flickering with unspoken emotions. "That was no ordinary wolf. Its guardian–one of many, perhaps. But it's also connected to the lost bloodline." his voice softened, as if he was choosing his words carefully, weighing the impact they would have on the group. "The wolf is more than just a creature. It's part of the prophecy"
Amelia's mind raced as she processed his words. She could feel the weight of them pressing down on her chest, suffocating her. She wanted to ask more, demand answers but part of her feared what those answers would reveal. It was all too much to comprehend at that moment.
Before she could speak, a sudden noise behind them interrupted her thoughts. She spun around, her hand instinctively on her sword, her eyes searching the darkness for any sign of danger.
Marcus, Eryk, Tairin and Serah stepped into the clearing, their expressions filled with concern and curiosity. They must have been standing just outside, waiting for some sign from Kael and Amelia. Serah's eyes flicked between the two of them, her gaze lingering on Kael before landing on Amelia.
"What happened?" Serah asked.
Kael didn't answer immediately. Instead, he turned his attention back to Amelia, his eyes intense, as though urging her to understand something she was struggling to grasp. "We need to talk. There are many things you didn't know, things about bloodline and prophecy that can no longer be ignored."
Amelia nodded, her throat dry as she spoke. "I need answers, Kael. Now. I can't go on like this–feeling as though I'm caught in a web of secrets."
He studied her for a moment, his lips parted as though he wanted to say something, but then gave a subtle nod. "Very well. Let's return to the Academy. It's not safe here, there's much more to explain."
With that, the group began their journey back through the ruins, the weight of their footsteps echoing in the silence.
Amelia's mind was clouded with questions, her thoughts swirling around the revelations she'd just experienced. The wolf, the prophecy, the bloodline–it seemed so overwhelming, so impossible. How can one bear the weight of all this?
They walked in silence, the tension between them palpable. Amelia kept her gaze focused on the ground, unwilling to meet anyone's eyes. She couldn't shake the feeling that everything she thought she knew was crumbling, that she was standing on the edge of a cliff, and the only way forward was to jump into the unknown.
When they finally arrived back at the Academy, the weight of their journey seemed to settle on them like a heavy cloak. The grand stone walls of the Academy loomed before them, the familiar sight offering little comfort. It had once felt like a place of safety, a place where Amelia could focus on her training and her duties as the Princess. But now, it felt like a cage–one that was closing in on all sides.
They made their way to the central courtyard, where a few students were still loitering around, but most had already retreated to their chambers for the evening.
Amelia took a deep breath, gathering her courage. She needed to confront the truth, no matter how terrifying it might be.
As they entered the main hall, Kael led them to a private chamber at the far end of the building. The room was dimly lit, with a large stone table in the center. Maps and ancient texts were scattered across it, filled with tomes that seemed to have aged beyond their years.
Kael gestured for them to sit, and they gathered around the table. Amelia took a seat at the edge, her heart still racing from the events of the day. She couldn't remember the last time she felt so vulnerable, so exposed. Her mind was still reeling from the wolf's presence, the whispers in the air, and Kael's words that seemed to hang in the air like a heavy fog.
"This," Kael began, his voice steady yet filled with an unmistakable urgency, "Is the beginning of a new era. The prophecy is not some vague myth anymore. It is a warning–a warning that we must understand before it's too late."
He spread out a map on the table, pointing to a location deep in the Demon kingdom. Amelia's eyes followed his finger, narrowing when she saw the markings on the map. "The heart of the Demon kingdom," she whispered. "What does that even have to do with the prophecy?"
Kael's gaze softened, and for the first time, she saw a flicker of something in his grey eyes–something almost tender, though it quickly disappeared behind a wall of resolve. "The prophecy speaks of the wolf queen who will either unite or destroy the kingdoms. And, you," he said, his voice barely above a whisper, "Are her heir. That's my speculation."
Amelia felt a wave of nausea was over her. The weight of Kael's words hit her like a physical blow. The Wolf Queen. Her. She could hardly believe it.
The room fell silent as the gravity of the revelation settled over them. The future of the kingdoms rested on her shoulders or that's what they believed it, for the first time, Amelia realized just how fragile everything was. She wasn't just a princess–she was the heir of something far greater, something that could either save or destroy everything she held dear.
Does her family know about this, perhaps that's why they send her to the Academy in the first place. Maybe.
