From Abyssal Invasion to Bursting Stars with a Single Sword

Chapter 129: Brain in a Vat, Energy Blessing! _2

Normally, the battery in a ray gun is enough to last a full battle.

Lu Heng and his two companions had each received a Cyber Beam Gun, equivalent to bringing back a reward of 25 C-Level energy batteries.

Having a ray weapon for self-defense still had its advantages.

Especially for Lin Zeyu, who had wanted to buy the ray gun from the Crystal Core Dark Network back when he was on Blue Star, but couldn't afford it as the seller treated it like a family heirloom with an exorbitant price.

Unexpectedly, after one venture into the Abyss Battlefield, obtaining such a ray gun had been quite easy.

After getting the ray guns, the three of them went to the shooting range on the island to test them.

The ray guns were much simpler to use than kinetic firearms.

Since ray guns lacked recoil, the muzzle didn't jump when fired.

Moreover, ray guns weren't affected by gravity or wind direction; they would hit whatever you aimed at as long as your hand didn't shake.

Therefore, they didn't require much practice to use proficiently.

...

After several days of construction, the defense works of the Ecological Island were nearly complete.

The time had also come for the island attack Chen Zihang had talked about.

Before that, Lu Heng exchanged some energy batteries for five camp bracelets.

Before beginning the attack, Lu Heng had the chance to meet with Chen Zihang, exchange camp bracelets, and briefly swap information, keeping the initial attack plan unchanged.

However, the direction from which the Superpower Users were to land had changed.

After all, it was obvious with a mere glance that defensive structures had been constructed on Ecological Island.

Originally, the direction where the Superpower Users were supposed to land had solid fortifications.

Superpower Users didn't want to be turned into swiss cheese by coastal machine guns, so they changed the direction of their landing.

This news was important but also not so significant.

The movement of Superpower Users was convenient; they could change their landing spot at any time, and it was impossible to build defenses around the entire Ecological Island, so the main defensive direction was still the sea bridge.

...

After swapping to the Central System Camp bracelets, Lu Heng handed the bracelets to Su Muyu and Lin Zeyu, but did not activate them immediately.

This bracelet was intended for the last challenge task; they just needed to use it before the Abyss Battlefield time ended.

If worn now, the robots on Ecological Island would consider them red-named targets and seek to eliminate them.

...

The time had reached midnight.

Finally, it was time for the Central System Camp's attack on the island.

Hundreds of mechanical guards and Light Prism Tanks began to gather towards the direction of the sea bridge.

Armored vehicles charged at the forefront, resisting the barrage of steel bullets from the island's robots.

The battle was imminent.

The tongues of flame spewed by both sides' weapons illuminated the entire bridge.

And the high-energy lasers shot from the Light Prism Tanks swept across Ecological Island's defenses, carving out scorched earth.

...

On Ecological Island, atop the building closest to the bridge,

Lu Heng and his two companions were watching this grand robot war, which was indeed different from battles involving humans.

Robots had no fear, no sensation of pain; they would persist in their charge until completely destroyed.

"Should we join the battle?" Lin Zeyu scratched his head, peering through his sniper rifle.

"Let's wait and see," Lu Heng said, not rushing to join the fight.

As of now, it wasn't clear yet which side they should help.

Humans and Superpower Users had been conscripted not to help the robots fight but to find and eradicate the Abyss Pollution Sources.

Whether the robot camps won or lost wasn't the concern of humans.

Locating the Abyss Pollution Source was critical.

Lu Heng had always suspected that there was something amiss with the rogue Mechanical Servant camp's leading brain and had requested a meeting with it twice, only to be rejected both times.

The more he was refused, the more Lu Heng felt there was a problem.

Thus, if this island attack could force the rogue Mechanical Servant's lead brain to reveal itself, that would be what Lu Heng hoped to see.

Half an hour into the defense of the bridge,

a team of nearly twenty Superpower Users landed from the north side of Ecological Island, making their way inside the island, sweeping through rogue Mechanical Servants as they rushed towards the central hemisphere-shaped building.

Su Muyu discovered the Superpower User who had landed and reported, "The Superpower User has landed on the island, and his target is very clear. He's headed toward that hemispherical building in the middle. Chen Zihang's team is also among them."

"Activate invisibility, let's follow and see," Lu Heng said as he led the two others toward the hemispherical building.

That hemispherical building was indeed a rather special structure on the Ecological Island.

They had passed by it from the outside several times but had never gone inside.

The Superpower Users from the Central System Camp rushed to the building, blasted the door open with explosives, and entered.

The hemispherical building covered a large area and had a complex internal structure.

Once the Superpower Users entered the building, they split into several teams and entered different passages to start searching the building.

Lu Heng, in an invisible state, followed into the building.

From the outside, the hemispherical building appeared to be ten stories high, but upon entering, it was discovered that there were another ten floors underground.

With twenty floors in total, both above ground and underground, plus a very large floor area and numerous passageways inside, it would take some time to thoroughly explore.

"Which way should we go?" Su Muyu looked around, unsure of how to lead the way.

"Which way did Chen Zihang go?" asked Lu Heng.

"Chen Zihang went down the passage; he probably thinks the target is underground," Su Muyu pointed in the direction Chen Zihang had gone.

The hemispherical structure had ten levels underground.

With such a deep structure, if the main brain was indeed in this building, hiding it underground was indeed very likely.

Lu Heng thought for a moment and said, "The reconnaissance eagle will follow Chen Zihang; we'll go upstairs."

Currently, Lu Heng was still allied with Chen Zihang.

Both parties had a clear goal: to find the Abyss Pollution Source.

Lu Heng suspected there was an issue with the controller of the Mechanical Servants, so if Chen Zihang found the main brain, he could communicate with him through the reconnaissance eagle.

However, given the complexity inside the building, the main brain might not necessarily be underground.

Therefore, Lu Heng decided to head upstairs to increase the chances of finding the main brain.

...

Besides Chen Zihang, another dozen Superpower Users from the Central System Camp also entered the hemispherical building and dispersed to search.

Meanwhile,

In a room on the ninth floor of the hemispherical building,

a Mechanical Tiger guarded the entrance of this room.

Its information network received real-time monitoring footage,

so the news of Superpower Users entering the hemispherical building had already spread to all Mechanical Servant individuals.

Combat robots assigned to guard the Ecological Island began converging towards the hemispherical building, entering to intercept the Superpower Users.

Some Superpower Users encountered combat robots and a battle erupted, with booming sounds spreading throughout the entire building.

About twenty minutes later,

a team of Superpower Users reached the ninth floor and entered the room where the Mechanical Tiger was.

The Mechanical Tiger emitted a mechanical roar and engaged in battle with three Superpower Users.

These three Superpower Users were very powerful and, acting together, subdued the Mechanical Tiger in a few minutes. Then, they opened a large alloy door behind the Mechanical Tiger.

As the door opened, the view inside was revealed.

Upon seeing what was behind the door, the three Superpower Users all showed surprised expressions.

Because in that room, there was a huge glass tank filled with an unknown liquid.

Floating in the liquid was an object resembling a brain and yet a heart.

A Brain in a Jar!

However, this Brain in a Jar looked different from a human brain, but it was still recognizable as the cognitive organ of some kind of intelligent creature.

At that moment, many tubes were connected to this brain, and it was even pulsating slightly.

Just as these three Superpower Users were astonished, two more individuals entered the room, none other than Huo Lingshan and Liu Liangpeng.

These two were Superpower Users who had been transported on the same vehicle as Lu Heng and Chen Zihang.

After they appeared, they indicated they would not vie for credit but only wished to tag along on the Challenge Task, offering to exchange Energy Batteries in return.

Since these Superpower Users all belonged to the Central System Camp and had landed on the island together, the three did not suspect anything and agreed to their request.

Just as the three were about to destroy the Brain in a Jar, Huo Lingshan and Liu Liangpeng suddenly attacked, killing the three Superpower Users.

After succeeding, the two approached the Brain in a Jar, pressing their palms against the glass.

Abyss Energy began to emanate from the liquid in the glass tank, merging into their bodies—it was indeed an Abyss Energy Blessing.
