Chapter 152: 152. As soon as the wine is drunk, the uncle becomes an old brother
Jason Liu realized he needed to be cautious. It would be embarrassing to end up drunk and sprawled on the ground after just two glasses of wine.
Father Lin picked up his glass, clinked it against Jason's, and took a sip.
"Mom, aren't you going to stop Dad? You usually don't let him drink," Lin Xiaohan said helplessly, watching the two men who weren't known for their drinking skills.
Mother Lin, serving Jason a piece of braised pork ribs, smiled as she responded, "It's fine. Today is special. Let them enjoy a drink."
What happened next left both Lin Xiaohan and her mother utterly shocked.
Jason Liu, clearly not used to drinking, was already tipsy after just two small glasses of white wine. Father Lin, who wasn't much better at drinking, didn't fare well either. Determined to carry out the task given to him by Mother Lin—to get Jason drunk and learn more about his relationship with their daughter—he kept encouraging Jason to drink.
Before long, most of the bottle of liquor on the table was gone, leaving behind a hilarious scene.
Father Lin, his face red and his eyes barely open, pulled a chair next to Jason, slung an arm over his shoulder, and started speaking loudly, his words slurred. "Brother… you're amazing… so much better than me. You've achieved so much at such a young age…"
Jason, equally drunk, mirrored Father Lin, wrapping an arm around his shoulder. "Ah… brother… I'm not that great… but in the future… I'll do even bigger things, you'll see!"
"Drink up, brother! I believe in you… You're so young and capable. Come on, let's have another drink!" Father Lin declared, shakily lifting his glass.
"Yes, brother, let's drink!" Jason responded, raising his own glass with equal enthusiasm.
The two men kept toasting each other, finishing the rest of the bottle in no time.
Lin Xiaohan and her mother watched in stunned silence. Neither had eaten much of the food on the table because they were too busy witnessing the absurd exchange.
Lin Xiaohan, still holding her half-eaten bowl of rice, groaned inwardly. How did things get like this? She looked at her mother in disbelief. "Mom, now I understand why you don't usually let Dad drink."
Mother Lin, equally exasperated, muttered, "This useless man! I told him to get Jason drunk, but he ended up drunk himself. He can't even handle such a simple task!"
Hearing this, Lin Xiaohan raised an eyebrow. "Wait… Mom, why were you trying to get Jason drunk?"
Caught off guard, Mother Lin hesitated before explaining, "Well, at the door earlier, Jason called us 'Mom' and 'Dad' right away. Your father and I thought you'd been secretly dating him for a while and just hadn't told us. So, we decided to get him drunk and find out the truth."
Lin Xiaohan sighed, feeling defeated. Her parents' overthinking had led to this ridiculous situation.
Her mother glanced disapprovingly at her drunken husband, who was now calling Jason "brother" like they were lifelong friends. "What a useless man. Instead of getting answers, he's here making friends with Jason."
Realizing the situation was spiraling, Lin Xiaohan quickly took away the wine glasses from both men while her mother hid the bottle.
"Jason, are you okay?" Lin Xiaohan asked, patting Jason on the shoulder. He was slumped over the table, his face red and eyes half-closed.
Father Lin, meanwhile, had passed out completely, his head lolling as his wife tried to wake him. "Lao Lin? Lao Lin!" she called, patting his face, but he didn't respond.
"Great, now I have to handle both of them," Mother Lin grumbled. "Xiaohan, watch Jason. I'll take your father to bed before he ends up under the table."
With that, she hefted Father Lin up and helped him back to the bedroom.
Lin Xiaohan grabbed a damp towel from the bathroom and began wiping Jason's face. "Hey, Jason! Can you hear me?" she asked, but he only mumbled incoherently before swaying dangerously to one side.
"Ah!" Lin Xiaohan exclaimed, catching him just in time as he slumped forward, his head landing squarely on her stomach.
"Jason! Jason Liu!" she called, her face turning red as she froze in place. He was completely unconscious, and his warm breath on her stomach made her feel even more flustered.
Before she could figure out what to do, her mother returned. Seeing Jason resting his head on her daughter's stomach, Mother Lin raised an eyebrow. She stared at them both, her expression unreadable.
"Mom! Stop staring and help me!" Lin Xiaohan said, her voice rising in embarrassment.
Shaking her head, Mother Lin walked over and helped lift Jason. "Let's get him to the guest room. He's too drunk to go home like this. It's safer for him to sleep here for now."
"But…" Lin Xiaohan hesitated. "Shouldn't we send him home?"
Mother Lin glared at her. "And let him get into an accident on the way back? He's staying here. Help me."
Reluctantly, Lin Xiaohan agreed. Together, they carried Jason to the guest room and laid him on the bed.
Mother Lin started to help remove Jason's shoes, but Lin Xiaohan had already done it. She even took off his coat and tucked him in, her movements surprisingly smooth and practiced.
Watching her daughter, Mother Lin felt a strange sense of familiarity. Her suspicions deepened.
When Lin Xiaohan turned back from wiping Jason's face with a towel, she saw her mother staring at her again with a knowing look. Flustered, she quickly left the room, muttering, "Goodnight, Mom."
