Game Of Thrones : Merchant of Two Worlds

Chapter 156: 156. Visitors from Seagull Town

When Earl Gerald Grafson discovered that the popular products being discussed came from the winter market town outside Winterfell in the North, he immediately took action. Without hesitation, he sent his manager to the North to negotiate a significant purchase.

The Earl even envisioned partnering with Lord Jason to gain exclusive control of the market in the Eastern Territory. His ambition was such that he was willing to pay double the current purchase price if needed.

However, much to Manager Calvin's disappointment, Lord Jason was not present.

With a sense of urgency, Calvin anxiously turned to Lena and asked, "When will Lord Jason return? I need to discuss something crucial with him. a matter of great importance!"

His tone grew more emphatic, clearly hoping to receive a reassuring answer about Lord Jason's imminent return.

From Calvin's words, Lena could easily deduce the so-called "important matter" . It was likely an attempt to negotiate a deal for market control, offering a high price to monopolize the trade.

Lena had heard similar proposals from various small noble families before, but all of them had been firmly rejected by Lord Jason.

Jason had made it clear that only the dukes of the Seven Kingdoms held enough power to dominate an entire market. Lesser nobles lacked the resources or influence to sustain such monopolies.

With an apologetic smile, Lena informed Calvin that she wasn't sure when Lord Jason would return. "It could be a day, maybe two—there's no way to say for certain," she explained.

Frustrated but unwilling to wait indefinitely, Calvin decided to change tactics. Instead of pressing further about exclusive trade rights, he shifted his focus to making bulk purchases of the goods.

After consulting Lena, Calvin was introduced to new products like toothpaste and toothbrushes. He was thoroughly impressed and placed a significant order on the spot.

The order included:

20,000 gel pens and 200,000 refills300,000 sheets of A4 paper and 20,000 sheets of specialty AL paper30,000 bars of soap and 200,000 smaller pieces of soap10,000 toothbrushes and a single container of special ointment

The total came to 2,950 gold dragons.

True to the reputation of the Grafson family, which had built its fortune in Seagull Town, Calvin displayed remarkable generosity. It was clear he was determined to secure these products and return swiftly to dominate the Eastern market.

After paying the total amount, Calvin ordered the goods to be carefully counted and loaded onto carriages. He and his team wasted no time, immediately setting off for the port. There, their merchant ships awaited in White Harbor, ready to transport the goods back to Seagull Town.

Being much closer to White Harbor than Oldtown in the Reach, Seagull Town offered a quicker turnaround for Calvin's ambitious plans.

Meanwhile, Lena carefully carried the nearly 3,000 gold dragons back to Lord Jason's castle. She stored them securely in the large iron safe in Jason's bedroom—a piece Jason had purchased from the modern world.

Following Jason's instructions, Lena dialed the combination lock and placed all the gold coins inside. With that done, she sighed in relief, knowing the castle was well-guarded by hundreds of soldiers.

Winterfell wasn't far from the market town, and no bandits or robbers would dare launch an attack in such a secure area.

Far away in the modern world, Jason Liu was busy overseeing a separate task. He had driven to the Carriage Factory to inspect the completion of five custom-made carriages he had ordered.

After two hours of driving, Jason reached the factory . However, before heading directly to the factory, he contacted a real estate agent to arrange a temporary storage location.

For a fee of 10,000 yuan, the agent found Jason a private property in the city's outskirts. The house, which had been vacant for a long time, included a 300-square-meter yard. The interior was cluttered with old furniture and debris, but Jason didn't mind since he only needed the yard to park the carriages temporarily.

Satisfied with the arrangement, Jason entered the Carriage Factory. Upon arrival, Director Thomas personally greeted him with a warm smile.

"Welcome, Mr. Liu! It must've been quite a journey for you," Thomas said, shaking Jason's hand.

"Thank you, Director Thomas," Jason replied with a smile. After some pleasantries, Jason expressed his eagerness to see the carriages.

"Of course! We've already moved all five carriages to the test area behind the factory. Let's head over so you can see how they perform on the road," Thomas said enthusiastically, leading the way.

The so-called "test road" was essentially a large outdoor area featuring a mix of cemented paths, dirt roads, and bumpy tracks.

There, five massive four-wheeled carriages, each over six meters long, stood in a neat row. A couple of factory workers were busy hitching one of the carriages to a pair of sturdy draft horses.

"Mr. Liu, allow me to introduce you to our chief engineer, Mr. Richard," Thomas said, gesturing to a middle-aged man.

Jason shook Richard's hand. "Pleased to meet you. I'm eager to hear about the carriages' features."

Richard nodded and began explaining, "Since you requested larger carriages with high shock absorption, we designed these with flat steel frames similar to automobile chassis. Instead of the traditional single crankshaft support found in standard carriages, we incorporated a modern hydraulic shock absorber system. This greatly enhances stability and comfort."

He continued, "The tires are widened solid types, offering superior durability. Each carriage is 6.5 meters long, 3.2 meters wide, and 3.2 meters tall. The framework is made from high-quality alloy and carbon steel, ensuring excellent impact resistance."

Richard added with a smile, "This level of engineering is beyond what's typically needed for carriages. Of course, a carriage will never match a car's speed, but it's built to last and perform exceptionally well under various conditions."

Jason inspected the carriages closely, impressed by their size and design. He appreciated the effort and attention to detail the factory team had put into meeting his unique specifications.
