Genshin Impact: I'm The Envoy of Snezhnaya

Chapter 89: Chapter 89: I Didn’t Want To Suffer The Sourness Alone

After entering the room, Bai Luo, with Katarina's help, lay down on the bamboo bed.

The single bed, made entirely of bamboo, had a slight elasticity to it but made no noise, giving Bai Luo the illusion that he was lying on a spring mattress.

After helping Bai Luo onto the bed, Katarina moved to the wardrobe. Based on the information she had gathered from the innkeeper earlier, she took out some bedding and began setting up on the floor.

"What are you doing?" Bai Luo asked, puzzled, as he watched Katarina spread the clean bedding on the ground.

"Sleeping here," Katarina answered matter-of-factly, even lying down briefly to test the comfort.

Hmm, not bad.

As the highest-ranking female member of the Fatui in Bai Luo's group, Katarina had no intention of leaving the heavily injured Bai Luo in someone else's care. She insisted on personally looking after him.

"..."

Little did she know, her actions made Bai Luo feel rather uncomfortable.

Despite his severe injuries—having been stabbed clean through—Bai Luo knew very well that he was not in serious danger. Thanks to the reverse blade sword's ability to cleanse his negative status effects, he had mostly recovered and could move freely again.

He was only pretending to be weak for two reasons. First, he wanted to avoid an audience with the Geo Archon, which would inevitably involve follow-up discussions about the three moves they'd exchanged. Second, he wanted to dodge Tartaglia.

Yes, from the very beginning, Bai Luo had been trying to avoid Childe. He felt that with his luck, even if Childe ventured deep into the Chasm, they might somehow run into each other. It was better to prepare in advance.

Seeing him in this feeble state, Childe probably wouldn't have the heart to start a fight, right?

"Katarina."

"Hmm?"

"Go outside. I prefer some peace and quiet."

"Oh," Katarina replied as she quietly rolled up the bedding and moved it slightly closer to the door before laying it out again.

"Katarina..."

"Yes?"

"Forget it. Do whatever makes you happy..."

"Alright!"

Katarina cheerfully picked up the bedding and laid it down right next to Bai Luo's bed.

Bai Luo: "..."

Thankfully, it was a single bed. If it had been a double bed, she might have laid her bedding directly on his mattress...

Damn it! Why is it a single bed?!

Filled with frustration and resignation, Bai Luo settled into his stay at the luxurious inn.

At noon, Katarina brought in medicine and food. It was evident she had plenty of experience taking care of others, as she attended to Bai Luo with care and efficiency, making him feel thoroughly comfortable.

Sigh. He suddenly felt like a useless member of society.

This feels pretty nice.

Perhaps worried that Bai Luo might grow bored staying in his room, Katarina kept updating him on the status of the Ninth Company and the surrounding area.

When she talked about the breathtaking scenery of Wangshu Inn, even the typically more reserved Katarina, compared to other Electro Cicin Mages, couldn't help but express her admiration.

"Such beautiful scenery is rare, even in Snezhnaya."

Indeed, Snezhnaya mainly offers snowy landscapes, while the lush, picturesque views of Wangshu Inn were nearly nonexistent in her homeland. It wasn't surprising that Katarina made such a remark.

"Katarina," Bai Luo called out.

"Here."

"Take me outside for a look. Good scenery might help my recovery."

"Understood."

From the journey between Stone Gate and Wangshu Inn, Bai Luo had already figured out Katarina's personality. Her concern wasn't because he was her superior or because she sought favor with him. She simply cared about him.

If he claimed something would aid his recovery, Katarina would comply. Bai Luo even suspected that if he made a more... unspeakable request under the guise of it aiding his recovery, she wouldn't refuse.

With Katarina's support, Bai Luo arrived at the platform of Wangshu Inn. There, she set up a rocking chair for him, where he could lie down and leisurely enjoy the view.

Since the Fatui had taken up residence at the inn, many of the high-floor occupants had quietly checked out. The innkeeper, noticing this, offered to waive all fees for these guests to hasten their departure. This avoided unnecessary conflicts and made it easier to manage certain matters.

After ensuring Bai Luo was settled on the empty platform, Katarina left to attend to other tasks. As the de facto leader of the Ninth Company under Bai Luo, she occasionally had to arrange security assignments for the others.

Bai Luo was happy to relax. Free from the burden of pretending to be severely injured, he sprawled more freely on the rocking chair. One hand held a fan with "Snezhnaya" written on it, and the other a Sunsettia, as he basked in comfort.

He even began pondering dinner options.

Buns were too plain, pork knuckles too greasy, and large cuts of meat too heavy.

Sigh, almond tofu it is then...

Just as he was lost in thought, a glance upward made his rocking pause.

Wangshu Inn was built atop a massive stone pillar. Long before the inn was constructed, a large tree had already grown there. Parts of the inn were integrated into the tree itself.

The massive canopy covered most of the inn, making it resemble a whimsical treehouse straight out of a fairy tale. It added a magical touch to the atmosphere.

From his rocking chair, Bai Luo had a perfect view of the tree canopy. The dappled sunlight filtered through the leaves, creating a stunning, otherworldly sight.

The most captivating part, however, was the boy sitting on one of the branches. His expression was serious, not feigned, as he gazed into the distance, lost in thought.

When Bai Luo noticed him, the boy also saw Bai Luo.

The boy furrowed his brows and prepared to leave, not wanting to be disturbed by these so-called seekers of immortals.

But what surprised him was Bai Luo casually picking up a Sunsettia and tossing it toward him.

The boy caught the fruit, glanced at Bai Luo below, and—without rushing to leave—bit into the freshly washed fruit.

Then…

He spat it out.

"Why is it so sour?"

Bai Luo, who had been holding a Sunsettia in his mouth for a while, finally spat it out as well. A gentle, familiar smile appeared on his face.

"It is indeed a bit sour."

"Then why did you eat it with such relish?"

The boy recalled Bai Luo's earlier exaggerated delight, which had been so convincing it made him salivate. That was the only reason he hadn't left immediately and tried the fruit instead.

"Because I didn't want to suffer the sourness alone."

Finally, the long-maintained calm on Bai Luo's face gave way to a distorted expression as the overwhelming sourness hit him.

The boy on the branch snorted coldly. With a swipe of his hand over his face, a mask—both fearsome and oddly reassuring—covered his features.

A flash of green light later, the boy disappeared from the branch, leaving only the swaying leaves behind.

"..."

Bai Luo stared at the swaying branch for a moment, then slowly got up and mimicked the boy's gesture.

A white mask, tinged with a faintly mocking expression, appeared on his face. Though seemingly harmless at first glance, a closer look revealed an unsettling aura.

If that were all, it would have been fine.

But Bai Luo copied the boy's stance perfectly and vanished without a trace, leaving behind only the rocking chair to prove someone had been there.

Somewhere, a certain Vigilant Yaksha: "???"
