Chapter 11: Chapter 11: The Source of the Polluted Ley Lines
As Qiu Bai watched Zhongli slowly open his eyes, he began to ponder.
At this rate, if he helped Morax recover about ten more times, he could completely repair the wear and tear.
"Morax, from now on, I'll help restore your wear and tear every three days."
"By the way, what about Azhdaha?"
Qiu Bai looked at Zhongli with a hint of doubt. By all logic, he had only purified Azhdaha's dark aura—he hadn't actually repaired the damage caused by erosion.
"Azhdaha…"
"Three hundred years ago, erosion finally overtook him. I fought him for three days and three nights, and in the end, I struck him down and sealed him underground."
Zhongli spoke of the past with a trace of melancholy, but then, as if something had suddenly occurred to him, he turned to look at Qiu Bai.
"My old friend, if you can restore my erosion…"
"Then you should be able to restore Azhdaha as well."
There was a rare look of hope in Zhongli's eyes. After all, he didn't have many old friends left.
If Azhdaha could be restored, they could enjoy tea together again in their idle moments. The truth was, he had been alone for far too long.
"A thousand years ago, my power wasn't enough to undo Azhdaha's erosion."
"But now… I think it's worth a try. My strength has increased far beyond what it once was."
Qiu Bai smiled at Zhongli. At this point, his power had grown more than tenfold—he was completely confident that he could restore Azhdaha.
"In that case, after the Rite of Parting, why don't we go there together?"
"I've been sensing that Azhdaha's seal has started to weaken lately," Zhongli said, his tone calm as he sat in his chair.
"Then it's decided. It's getting late—I need to head to The Chasm tomorrow."
"That so-called 'black calamity'… I need to see it for myself."
Qiu Bai's expression turned serious as he spoke.
"The deepest layer of The Chasm is already sealed by me."
"Even I found myself at a loss when dealing with the dark energy there. When you go tomorrow, I'll undo the seal."
Zhongli glanced at Qiu Bai, then stood up and headed upstairs.
"In that case, I'll see you tomorrow, Morax."
Qiu Bai also returned to the room that Hu Tao had prepared for him. It was quite spacious, with a bed, a cabinet, and plenty of open space.
How long had it been since he had a proper night's sleep? Five hundred years? A thousand?
Slumber was different from sleep—it was unconscious, not restful. He couldn't help but feel a little sentimental as he thought about it…
...
The Next Morning
Inside the Jade Chamber, an elegantly dressed woman sat in a chair, her long legs crossed gracefully.
There was a delicate blend of refinement and gentleness in her demeanor—simply looking at her was a visual delight.
She was Ningguang, the Tianquan of the Liyue Qixing.
At that moment, however, she was pressing her fingers against her temples, feeling a headache coming on as she gazed at Shenhe before her.
How had the Immortal Lord just disappeared?
As far as she knew, the Immortal Lord of Yin and Yang had met the Geo Archon a thousand years ago. The two deities had once fought a great battle—only to become close friends afterward.
The Immortal Lord had even descended alongside the Geo Archon for the Rite of Parting, contributing to the planning of Liyue's development.
Yet now she was being asked to find this Immortal Lord… but she didn't even know what he looked like.
According to ancient records, Rex Lapis always descended in his true form.
But the Immortal Lord took on a human form, dressed in black and white robes with long flowing hair. However, his face was always obscured by a mysterious black-and-white aura.
Setting aside the classified documents in her hands, Ningguang rose to her feet and addressed Shenhe in a firm tone.
"I understand. Miss, please pass this message on to the Adepti."
"Liyue will do everything in its power to locate the Immortal Lord!"
With that, she ordered Baiwen and Baishi to relay her instructions, before sinking back into her chair in contemplation.
Suddenly, a thought seemed to strike Ningguang, and she called Ganyu over.
Ganyu was still lost in thoughts about the disappearance of the Immortal Lord, her mood tinged with sadness as she looked at Ningguang.
Noticing this, Ningguang took a moment to comfort her before asking,
"Ganyu, haven't you met the Immortal Lord before?"
"Do you still remember what he looks like?"
Ganyu sat in the chair across from Ningguang and carefully recalled her memories.
"The Immortal Lord wore black and white robes, and around his waist was a Taiji symbol, similar to a Vision."
"His eyes were a light blue, deep like the midnight sky, and his hair was black as ink, cascading over his robes… He was incredibly handsome."
She paused for a moment before adding,
"He had a face as warm as jade, with an air of elegance."
"The Immortal Lord even patted my head once…"
Her cheeks flushed slightly as she reminisced.
Ningguang took note of all these details before calling Baiwen and Baishi over. She handed them the description and instructed them to search for the Immortal Lord based on these characteristics.
Then, as she glanced back at Ganyu, who was still blushing, her expression turned somewhat peculiar.
How could an Adeptus still act like a shy young girl?
Could it be that, in the Immortal Lord's eyes, Ganyu was nothing more than a child?
...
Liyue Harbor
Qiu Bai stepped out of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor and onto the bustling streets of Liyue Harbor, overhearing conversations among the townspeople.
"Hey, did you hear? The Immortal Lord has gone missing!"
"Isn't he supposed to be in slumber? How could he disappear when the Adepti are guarding him?"
"Exactly! I heard that the Adepti sent a disciple to meet with Lady Tianquan today, asking her to search for the Immortal Lord."
Discussions about the Immortal Lord's disappearance filled every corner of Liyue Harbor. After all, his reputation was on par with that of the Geo Archon himself.
With such an important figure missing, the residents of Liyue Harbor had fallen into a state of panic and unrest.
The city was now filled with Qianyan troops patrolling the streets, and search efforts extended all across Liyue.
Qiu Bai sighed to himself.
"Having such a great reputation isn't always a good thing."
"...Never mind that. First, I need to head to The Chasm and see for myself what this so-called 'Black Calamity' is all about."
Taking out the sealing key that Zhongli had given him, Qiu Bai disappeared from Liyue Harbor.
...
The Chasm
In the blink of an eye, Qiu Bai arrived high above The Chasm. Concealing his presence for a moment, he then descended straight down.
On the way, he spotted numerous mine shafts and abandoned buildings, along with groups of Fatui agents and Treasure Hoarders scattered throughout the area.
He wasn't sure how far he had traveled downward when he finally took out the Geo crystal Zhongli had given him and struck it against the ground.
As the seal was undone, countless runes flickered to life, revealing a bottomless pit below.
Qiu Bai descended further, but when he finally reached the ground, the sight before him left him utterly stunned.
Massive tree roots sprawled in every direction, twisting endlessly into the distance. These roots emitted a strange, eerie black mist.
The ley lines of Liyue were slowly being corrupted by this dark energy.
"So this must be the center of the Black Calamity…"
"The place Morax mentioned."
Using his divine sight, Qiu Bai examined the black mist and noticed that all of it was converging toward a single point. Without hesitation, he flew toward the source.
There, standing before him, was an enormous ancient tree, its bark tinged with an ominous purple-black hue. The dark mist visibly coiled around it, exuding a sinister presence.
The sheer power emanating from the tree was overwhelming.
Qiu Bai was certain—if he had come here a thousand years ago, without divine power to shield him, the tree's influence would have surely twisted his mind.
But now, even without any resistance, the black mist couldn't affect his consciousness.
Azhdaha had already suffered from erosion, and under the influence of this very same corruption, he had succumbed to its effects.
"This tree is slowly spreading its corruption through Liyue's ley lines."
"If we don't completely eradicate its source, it will become a serious threat in the future."
