Chapter 20: Chapter 20: New Skill: Corpse Explosion
Four pieces of weapons and equipment lay neatly in front of them. A bronze-level weapon glowed with a bluish-white light, similar to the shimmer on the skeleton warrior.
Ning Yiyi spoke up, "These are the weapons we obtained from the Kamen Orc Legion dungeon."
Marsh raised an eyebrow. He had never heard of this dungeon before.
Noticing his confusion, Ning Yiyi explained, "The Kamen Orc Legion dungeon is a level 20 dungeon outside Shaohai City. The three of them often run dungeons there."
Marsh nodded thoughtfully.
These four pieces of bronze equipment were of no use to him, but they could easily be sold for some money. Without hesitation, he collected the gear. Ning Yiyi didn't say anything, understanding that Marsh would take what he needed.
There were also some materials left—wolf pelts, animal bones, and young grass. They weren't worth much, but every little bit added up. Marsh gathered them up as well.
"Even a mosquito is still meat," Marsh thought. "These can be sold for some coins."
Once he had collected the weapons and materials, only one item remained: a [Primary Skill Scroll].
[Primary Skill Scroll] [Introduction: Allows the user to learn skills below level 20, including skills already acquired.]
The scroll was a surprising find. Worth 100,000 gold coins, it was a valuable item. Marsh held it in his hands, wondering if he should use it or sell it for the money.
Ning Yiyi, noticing his hesitation, asked, "You haven't used the primary skill scroll yet, have you?"
Marsh nodded. He hadn't used it yet.
"Then go ahead and use it," she encouraged. "You might learn a new skill. Even if you get one you already know, it's still useful."
Marsh looked at her curiously. "You're not selling it for money?"
"Please," Ning Yiyi chuckled. "A primary skill scroll is not worth much. Don't be so stingy. You're not hurting for gold, are you?"
Marsh wasn't so sure about her perspective on money. It was clear she came from a very wealthy family.
He held the scroll. "How do I use it?"
Ning Yiyi grinned. "It's easy! Just hold the scroll and say, 'Use.'"
Marsh didn't doubt her but decided to try something a bit more efficient. He took the scroll in his hand, then closed his eyes, activating it with his mental power.
Ning Yiyi watched expectantly, waiting for him to speak the word "Use."
But Marsh didn't say a thing.
The scroll suddenly burst into bright light, surrounding Marsh with an intense glow.
Ning Yiyi let out a little disappointed sound. "You figured it out…"
She had tried to tease him, but Marsh had quickly found the correct method. Her playful attempt had failed.
The scroll turned into a ball of light that enveloped Marsh.
[Acquired Skill: Corpse Explosion]
[Corpse Explosion (Level 1): Detonate the corpse, causing damage equal to 10% of the corpse's HP to enemies within 1 meter.]
Marsh smiled faintly. He had gained a new skill, and the scroll was not wasted.
Looking at the skill description, Marsh could immediately tell there was potential. At first glance, the skill didn't seem too impressive—the range was only 1 meter, and the damage was based on the corpse's health.
In the eyes of a necromancer, however, a corpse was still a form of life. Its life energy didn't vanish just because it was dead. The bones, the flesh, and even the soul contributed to its power. Some of the strongest individuals left corpses that decayed not for thousands of years, still radiating immense energy.
What Marsh realized, though, was that Corpse Explosion was a group attack skill. When facing thousands of enemies, it wasn't practical to rely on skeleton warriors to kill one by one. That would be too slow.
Instead, he could detonate the corpses of slain enemies, dealing damage to any foes within range. Each time an enemy died, another corpse would form, ready for the next explosion. As long as his mental power held out, he could keep the chain going.
Thanks to his talent, the 1-meter range wasn't a limitation. Marsh's mental reach was already up to 20 meters, and his damage output was boosted to 200%.
It was another powerful skill in his arsenal. With his talent, almost every skill he acquired seemed divine.
The glow from the scroll faded as the skill was activated.
Ning Yiyi blinked her large eyes, watching Marsh. "So, did you learn a new skill?"
Marsh nodded. "I did."
Ning Yiyi smiled brightly. She didn't seem to hold any ill will for teasing him earlier. "You have such a nice voice, but you hardly ever talk. It's such a shame."
Marsh looked at her with a rare, genuine smile. "You have a nice voice too."
He wasn't one to give out compliments easily, but something about her energy made him feel comfortable.
Ning Yiyi giggled. "Thank you for the compliment! I know my voice is lovely."
Marsh chuckled and shrugged.
"For saving me and praising me, I'll give you this," Ning Yiyi said, pulling out a small box. She stuffed it into Marsh's hand before he could protest.
[Intermediate Skill Scroll] [Introduction: Allows the user to learn skills between levels 40 and 70, including skills already acquired.]
The intermediate skill scroll was worth 10 million gold coins—100 times the price of the primary skill scroll. It was incredibly expensive and precious.
To Marsh, it felt like an absurd amount of money, a sum that seemed almost unreachable.
Ning Yiyi grinned. "The person who was chasing me was after this scroll. I figured, if you're going to help me, I should at least repay you."
Marsh stared at the scroll in his hand, his mind racing with the possibilities. This was an unbelievable gift—one that would be hard to refuse.
"Are you sure?" he asked.
Ning Yiyi gave him a mischievous grin. "Of course. I don't mind. You saved me, and you even gave me a compliment. It's only fair."
Marsh nodded slowly, unsure of how to properly thank her. But the scroll was too valuable to pass up.
