Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Threat (2/2)
The alley behind the internet café was already outside the owner's management area, so there were no surveillance cameras.
The alley in the back felt more like an unattended zone.
It was somewhat filthy, piled with miscellaneous items and disposable meal boxes, with a lingering stench of swill, somewhat similar to the scent in a cafeteria.
In this narrow alley, Qin Siyang couldn't even find a place to step. In the end, he wiped a stone slab clean, placed it on the grease-covered steps, and sat down.
Bored, Qin Siyang waited for three to four hours until the lights in the internet café finally went out.
He felt that if he waited any longer, he would be completely overwhelmed by the stench of swill.
After a while, that greasy-faced middle-aged internet café attendant appeared in the narrow alley. He wore a white dress shirt, his entire body shaking with excess fat, and had a coat draped over his shoulder.
The attendant didn't care about the trash all over the ground. As he walked, he kicked it aside indiscriminately, even getting oil stains on his shoes.
Qin Siyang looked at the sweat-stained yellow collar and cuffs of his shirt with disgust.
That attendant, on the other hand, stared at Qin Siyang with a greedy look.
"Kid, the police were looking for you because you killed someone, right?"
That opening statement hit Qin Siyang's heart like a bullet.
Qin Siyang didn't respond.
He believed that the murder near Safe Exit No. 89757 last night shouldn't have spread to such a remote place within just one night. If the attendant knew, it had to be just a guess.
So there was no need to admit it.
The attendant chuckled,"Even if you don't say anything, I know. Last time you came, you were looking at the forum for Sequence Ability Users, and you did the same this time."
The attendant proactively answered the doubt in Qin Siyang's mind, so he followed up,"You remember every person?"
"Of course not, I'm not a Sequence Ability User with memory skills."
"Just me, then?",Qin Siyang wondered why he was so unlucky to be targeted by this greasy attendant.
"Because you look so poor. One glance and I can tell you're some broke kid from the edge of the Safe Zone. Yet you actually spent money to use the internet café, so of course, I got curious and took a second look. It just so happened that you wore the same outerwear both times, so I remembered you. And, out of curiosity, I always checked what you were doing every time you logged in."
"When you browsed the forum, you stayed on the pages for [Undying] and [Frgrant Seeker] Sequences for a long time. Most people with these Sequence abilities are police investigators. At first, I thought you had awakened a similar Sequence ability and were looking up information."
"But then, the police suddenly came. You quickly deleted your browsing history and opened a Word document on the desktop, pretending to read an e-book. Right then, I guessed—you must have killed someone and were checking whether the police Sequence users would find you."
The fat on the attendant's face trembled with excitement, as if celebrating his great discovery through his sharp observation skills.
But Qin Siyang remained indifferent.
No matter how accurately the attendant guessed, Qin Siyang wouldn't give any response.
NEVER LET YOUR ENEMY SEE THROUGH YOUR THOUGHTS.
Qin Siyang forgot which movie from his past life this line came from, but it fit perfectly as his strategy now.
He would absolutely not provide this attendant with any more fragments of information about himself.
Qin Siyang silently stared at the attendant, waiting for what he would say next.
The attendant seemed slightly surprised by Qin Siyang's lack of reaction. This seventeen- or eighteen-year-old boy seemed to have a demeanor far beyond his age.
But the attendant wasn't flustered—he still firmly held the advantage.
"I called you out for a simple reason. I won't tell anyone about your business, but you have to give me one silver coin as hush money."
Qin Siyang chuckled, shooting the attendant a sharp look,"One silver coin? Are you insane?"
The attendant flinched at Qin Siyang's gaze. That chilling aura filled with killing intent—there was no way it was fake.
This seventeen- or eighteen-year-old was definitely a real killer.
The attendant swallowed hard, stiffening his neck as he said,"I'm not insane. One silver coin is the price of your life—it's worth it. After all, you're already a murderer. There's nothing you wouldn't do, right?"
As if finding his confidence, the attendant became more excited as he spoke,"I don't care how you get it—steal, rob, kill—just bring me one silver coin, and that's enough."
Qin Siyang simply watched the attendant coldly, as if looking at a fool performing a comedy unrelated to him.
The attendant felt like he was being watched by a tiger, his whole body covered in goosebumps.
But he still smiled,"You can't scare me. We're all just ordinary people living in this broken place. Who has more arms or legs than anyone else?"
Hmm?
It seemed the attendant hadn't realized that Qin Siyang was a Sequence Ability User.
That was at least a small stroke of luck in this mess.
Qin Siyang didn't let himself be led by the attendant's words. He keenly noticed that the attendant's breathing was getting heavier—he was clearly nervous.
So, Qin Siyang continued to apply pressure, throwing out a sharp question,"Since you know I killed someone, why aren't you afraid I'll kill you?"
The attendant wiped the cold sweat off his face and said,"I already wrote an email reporting you, attaching surveillance screenshots of your face. That email is set to send to the police station's inbox at 3 a.m. every night. I update the delay daily, pushing it back one day each time. If I die, you'll be exposed too."
As if to make Qin Siyang believe him, the attendant added,"If you don't believe me, you can try it. Kill me right now!"
A scheduled email—like a ticking time bomb—forced Qin Siyang to take this situation seriously.
The attendant had bound his hands and feet tightly, making it impossible for him to act rashly.
"Before the end of next week, you have to give me a thousand copper coins. Otherwise, I'll report you to the police!"
The attendant grinned smugly, revealing a row of yellowed, uneven teeth.
Qin Siyang listened without reacting and turned to leave the alley.
The attendant watched Qin Siyang's retreating figure, snorted coldly, and smirked.
'So what if you've killed people? You still have to obediently bring me money.'
'Kid, I've got you under my thumb for life!'
Just thinking about it made him happy. His house and car money would all come from Qin Siyang.
Suddenly, the attendant realized he didn't even know Qin Siyang's name.
"Oh right, my name is Liu Dazhi. What's yours?"
Qin Siyang kept walking without a word.
A dead man didn't need to know his name.
