Chapter 33: Chapter 33: The Police Station's Suspicion (2/2)
"You know Liu Dazhi, right?"
"Oh, he's the network administrator at our internet café. He's resting at home today. Officers, what do you need him for? He doesn't have a phone or a computer, so I can't contact him. You might have to come back tomorrow."
Olov shook his head,"No, we're not looking for Liu Dazhi. We're looking for you. Because earlier this morning, Liu Dazhi was murdered."
"Murdered?",Wang Defa's eyes widened,"He's just a deadbeat shut-in. Who would kill him?"
Olov saw that Wang Defa's shock didn't seem faked and continued asking,"Do you know if he offended anyone recently?"
Wang Defa looked completely confused,"He's just a network admin, collecting fees and turning on computers. Who could he have offended? Even if he did, who would kill him?"
No matter how hard Wang Defa racked his brain, he couldn't guess that the one who killed Liu Dazhi was none other than Qin Siyang, whom he had met earlier today.
Olov added,"The scene investigation suggests it was a home invasion and robbery. Do you have any leads on that?"
"Officer, home invasions are all about money and murder. You're asking me? How would I have any leads?"
Olov felt that Wang Defa probably wasn't a suspect, but he still asked,"Were you at the internet café all day today?"
"Yeah, been here the whole time. You can ask the people using the computers here; they can all vouch for me."
"That's right, Boss Wang has been here the whole time."
"Yeah, I can confirm too. If Liu Dazhi is dead, it definitely has nothing to do with Boss Wang."
"Boss Wang, I remember someone came looking for you this morning, and you stepped out for a bit, didn't you?"
A young man with a pockmarked face grinned as he spoke.
Wang Defa frowned. He recognized this young man as someone he had scolded before for not paying his internet fees.
He hadn't expected this guy to set him up in front of the police today.
Wang Defa narrowed his eyes at the young man, already thinking about how to teach him a lesson later.
Olov turned to the pockmarked youth and asked,"Wang Defa, is what he said true?"
"It's true.",Wang Defa was indifferent. To him, Liu Dazhi's death had nothing to do with Qin Siyang.
"Who came to see you? What time was it? How long were you gone?"
"My memory is a bit fuzzy. Ugh, I don't know why, but I have a splitting headache. I really can't remember. You should ask that pockmarked kid; he probably remembers better than I do."
This time, Wang Defa wasn't as cooperative. Instead, he feigned a headache to dodge the question.
Liu Dazhi's death had nothing to do with him—that was a fact. He was willing to cooperate a little, but not with prying into his personal business.
Did this nosy detective not understand what it meant to run an internet café in a slum? If any of his side dealings got exposed, even the detective himself wouldn't be able to handle the fallout. This wasn't something he could just casually talk about.
Olov looked at Wang Defa's expression and showed clear displeasure.
Wang Defa, meanwhile, covered his head with his hands but left one eye exposed, staring coldly at Olov in warning.
Olov knew Wang Defa had a complicated background and that without evidence, there was no point in pressing him further.
More importantly, Wang Defa didn't seem to have anything to do with Liu Dazhi's death.
So, he turned to the pockmarked young man,"Can you recall when your boss left and how long he was gone?"
The young man's eyes darted around as he said,"He left around seven and was gone for about an hour. I heard you say Liu Dazhi was murdered? Maybe he did it!"
"Bullshit!",Someone next to him immediately retorted,"Boss Wang turned on my computer for me at around seven. I was here the whole time, and he never left. How could he have been gone for an hour?"
The pockmarked youth curled his lips,"Then I must have remembered wrong."
At the counter, Wang Defa clenched his fists. This pockmarked brat was getting way too bold, acting as if he were just an ordinary internet café owner.
Hearing someone step in to clear Wang Defa, Olov asked,"What time did you log in? Can I take a look?"
The person checked the system log,"7:13 AM."
"Alright, thank you."
The fire started around 7:20 AM. Wang Defa had no time to commit the crime.
Olov glanced at Wang Defa, who clearly had no intention of cooperating further, and said,"Boss Wang, if you come across any clues, feel free to contact us."
"See yourself out."
Wang Defa had no interest in entertaining Olov and his men any longer.
Olov and his officers left.
"Detective Olov, this internet café owner is definitely shady. Shouldn't we investigate him?",Roylena suggested beside him.
"Of course he's shady.",Olov lit another cigar,"But his problems aren't something you can investigate. Even I couldn't touch him when I was still stationed in Sigma District."
"But…"
"No buts. Roylena, don't be curious about everything. Just focus on the cases at hand. That's my advice to you—remember it."
Roylena saw the depth in Olov's gaze and nodded.
After Olov and his team left, Wang Defa pulled out his phone and stepped into the storage room to make a call.
"Hey, Old Snake, it's me. Are you free right now? I need you to take care of someone for me."
"Yeah, same price as before. Don't worry—no one who comes to my internet café is a decent person. Even if you kill them all, the police won't be able to trace it back to you…"
