God killer Chronicles

Chapter 21: The Beginning (2)

Dahlia left.

She left the whole room in silence, leaving only few of us still in the room.

The Barrier left first. He didn't speak another word to Kendali.

I expected him to say a word to me, since we've fought.

'I guess he isn't interested in those he had beaten'.

Soon after, three women stood at once, silently following the white haired man.

Every step they took was in sync.

Everything from the look on their faces, to the clothes they wore were identical.

They kept their heads high, but the look in their eyes was wrong— emotionless.

I turned my head away from them, just to catch a glimpse of my mum and the big lady heading to the kitchen.

'Was she.... hungry?' I shivered, 'A stress eater? But even for a superhuman her weight looked dangerous.'

In another part of the room, Theo kept talking with the same older man, as though unaffected by everything that happened.

He was also analysing the ridiculously large paper sword, folding it completely flat then extending it to its full length over and over again.

While they continued discussing, Theo's animations cleaned up the room.

Then, The last person, Kendali— the only one whose name I've learnt.

She sat in a corner. Still—almost like she wasn't even breathing.

Her eyes, and the way her fists were clenched screamed anger, a dangerous, quiet kind of anger that I didn't dare touch.

She hadn't given up on killing The Owl yet.

I looked away, turning to leave the hall immediately.

It was futile, but I wasn't going to be the one to tell her.

In seconds I was on my bed, but sleep remained far from me. Images of Kendali suspended in the air filled my head, her long brown hair flowing, covering her face.

I got up.

Standing barefoot on the warm wood, I took a quick look around at the room.

It was built for comfort, more so than my own room.

A perfect luxury prison.

I started to exercise, until my body couldn't anymore, then I took a long bath.

By the time I came out of the bathroom, the sweat on the floor was completely gone and the room smelled of flowers instead of sweat.

'Creepy' I thought, but I didn't dare say it out loud.

I fell into my bed, sinking into it in a way that was meant to be comfortable.

It wasn't.

'This room could eat me alive.'

'How was one expected to sleep here?'

I left my bed, finding a chair in the living room to stay on instead, somewhere to stay the night.

I looked outside the window, letting the weight of everything that happened settle in.

'This is going to be a rough night'.

.......,

Brown hair.

It was everywhere I looked, drowning the world around me.

The ground beneath me was hair, so slippery I had to struggle to keep my balance.

Suddenly screams flooded my ears, tearing into my mind, bringing me to my knees.

I looked up.

High above me, a female figure hung in the air, strangled by an invisible force.

The figure itself was a blur, A shadow of a woman like one who was slowly being erased, the hair protested, rolling and stirring like waves.

Suddenly I was sucked in, there was only darkness and the smell of hair, It choked the breath in my lungs, allowing me to breathe only sparsely. I tried to move, swim even but then suddenly it stuck to me, holding me tight.

Wrapping around my body.

Tightening around my neck.

I was thrown into the air a second later, hanging alongside the woman, lifted into the sky by thick strands of hair braided together.

My eyes watered, I was choking, dying.

Suddenly I could see the sun, Its gaze burned me as it watched.

'Scream for help' I thought, but the hair wrapped around my mouth as though reading my mind, ensuring my cries never left my throat...

I woke with a gasp. Falling out of my chair.

On my knees I stood, panting heavily as my heart throbbed.

The smell of flowers choked the little breaths I forced.

'A nightmare.'

I stared wide eyed at my hands, trying and failing to grab a hold of the wooden floor beneath me.

'Just a nightmare'.

I turned to lay face up, staring at the ceiling, I never once left the wooden house.

'I may have woken up but I was still in a nightmare'

Slowly my breath settled, and I stood, covered in sweat.

My whole body hurt, problems of sleeping on a chair made purely out of wood.

I started to stretch, then a voice sounded, coming directly from my head.

It wasn't mine

"Bathe and get dressed".

My eyes widened, my breathing that had calmed suddenly became even faster than before.

The owl's voice.

I fell backwards, tripping over the chair, but a quick search around showed the room was empty.

The aged voice continued, "Clothes have been prepared for you. You are to be at the dining hall as quickly as possible."

I stood to my feet. No one else was in the room.

Afraid to test that fact, I rushed into the bathroom and came out after a quick shower.

Laying on my bed was an outfit.

It was all black.

A sleeved T-shirt, and a trouser.

Everything together was perfectly fitted to my body, unlike what I would usually wear, it showed how fit I was under my clothes.

But that wasn't a problem, the fact that it was perfectly my size was the strange part.

I kept it on anyways,It wasn't like I had anything better to wear.

Today I was prepared to see The Owl, today he would tell us why he had summoned us.

Today I would know if I would ever get to go back home.
