Chapter 6: Chapter 5
Back in her sanctuary, she walked through the dark corridors with the dagger in hand, admiring the power emanating from the blade. Every corner of her temple seemed to vibrate with renewed energy as she prepared for her next move. The great lizard rested in his artificial pool, watching her with watchful, hungry eyes. He too sensed the change in the air, sensing that his purpose would soon be fulfilled.
She, however, was not yet ready to unleash the fury of her new ally. She knew that the gods of Olympus were off guard, but also that a direct threat would unite them against her. Her plan required careful strategy: each blow had to be carefully calculated. The dagger in her hands was not only a weapon, but a symbol of vengeance, the spark that would ignite the fire of resentment burning in her chest.
Sitting on her stone bed, she called upon those who followed her. Before long, many arrived, whispering praises and awaiting her command. It was they who would help spread deceptions in the mortal world, a means to slowly poison the minds of all those who worshipped the Olympian gods.
"My faithful devotees, the time has come to sow discord," she said in a soft but firm voice. "Those gods who believe they reign over you and your destiny will know the taste of betrayal. You will take my words to every man and woman in the cities. Tell them of the hypocrisy of Olympus, of its arrogance and contempt. Make doubt germinate in their hearts, make them wonder if it is truly worth it for them to kneel before those who have abandoned them."
The devotees nodded, ready to fulfill their mission without question. She waved them off and watched them depart to the various poleis, ready to sow the seeds of betrayal. She knew that those rumors would grow little by little, infecting the faith of mortals and creating fissures in the worship of the gods.
Days later, when the full moon illuminated the sea, she decided it was time to test the strength of her creature. Since she had reduced it and sealed the pact, she had noticed how the power of the beast grew with each day in the sanctuary. However, before launching it against Olympus, she had to subject it to a challenge that would sharpen its ferocity and grant it enough strength to challenge the divinities.
She approached the pond where he rested. Upon noticing her presence, the creature raised its head, and its eyes flashed with a spark of understanding and eagerness for action. Without words, she extended her hand, and a dark vortex emerged on the ground, connecting her sanctuary with a distant island.
"I have a task for you, my faithful creature," she said, approaching the edge of the pond. "The gods have relied too much on the devotion of humans." We need to break that connection. Bring chaos to the coastal cities. Strike when the moon is high, and devour anyone who tries to stop you. Leave a warning, something to make them see that the gods cannot protect them.
The great lizard gave a low growl of approval, understanding the essence of the orders. It rose and, with a glint in its eyes, abandoned its reduced form to take on a larger size. It was not its original form, but it was enough to instill fear. With a fierce look at its mistress, it crossed the vortex, ready to fulfill its mission.
As soon as it reached its destination, the glow of the full moon illuminated its scales, reflecting a sinister glow. Seeing the beast rising from the water, the inhabitants of the city panicked, fleeing in all directions as screams echoed through the alleys and docks. The creature's roar rose above the chaos, thunderous and deep, filling the hearts of mortals with primal terror. Every step she took towards the city made the earth tremble, and the impact of her power made temples and houses vibrate.
From her sanctuary, she observed the destruction through a mirror of water in which she could see the unleashed massacre. A smile of satisfaction appeared on her face, as she murmured to herself:
—Perfect. Let humans see that their prayers to the gods are useless. Let them understand that the promises of Olympus cannot protect them.
The followers of the goddess, who had already begun to spread rumors and distrust, saw in the attack the confirmation of their words. The murmurs intensified: "The gods no longer protect us. Why worship them, if they do not even deign to defend us?" These messages spread like an uncontrollable fire, and fear, combined with betrayal, took root in the hearts of mortals.
Meanwhile, the beast advanced towards the temple of Apollo in that coastal city, and with a movement of its tail, it knocked down the columns that supported the structure, causing the building to collapse in a cloud of dust and stone.Statues and offerings to the gods were crushed under her power, symbolizing the fall of the beliefs that men had placed in Olympus. The creature, possessed by anger and hunger, sought out any sign of resistance, mercilessly attacking the soldiers and warriors who tried to stop her.
When chaos and destruction became absolute, she felt the spark of hatred and fear igniting in the hearts of humans. It was just the poison she needed to corrode devotion to the gods. With every unanswered prayer, with every life lost without divine intervention, she knew that her plan was moving towards victory. But she also knew that Olympus would soon react.
