Chapter 419: The Secret of the World Within the Artifact
Sun Wukong and his companions had already entered the dark castle, yet upon entering through the gate, Sun Wukong realized that what seemed to be a closely guarded fortress was actually quite spacious inside. Though somewhat dim, it did not affect their vision. Sun Wukong gestured for everyone to be cautious and then began leading the way, the World Suppressing Stele held aloft in his hand. After passing through an extremely spacious hall, they came upon an area resembling a martial arts field. They thoroughly surveyed their surroundings but found nothing of note. Feeling that this method of searching might inadvertently trigger some mechanism or trap, he asked, "Ironclad, can you sense where the others might be?" Ming Tiekuang closed his eyes for a brief moment, then shook his head, "The presence of the Underworld God Army is everywhere here; it's impossible to detect where the others are." Sun Wukong contemplated in silence, realizing he had no choice but to use his Heaven and Earth Dao Eye. Flames swirled around his eyes as he turned clockwise, scanning the area, and then suddenly he whipped his head towards a specific direction.
The direction Sun Wukong was looking at was a wall beside them, beyond which lay another unspecified building. "Dragon Emperor, twenty steps to the left, blast open the floor—there's a secret passage beneath!" The Dragon Emperor nodded, proceeded twenty steps, and then his right hand, enveloped in golden light, smashed down. Instantly, a large hole appeared before their eyes. Wu Ming smacked his lips and asked, "What's the meaning of this? Are the rest of them down there? In a dungeon?"
Sun Wukong did not reply, instead, he leaped down the hole, followed by the Dragon Emperor, Wu Ming, Hei Kui, and Ming Tiekuang. The space beneath was very dark, but Sun Wukong casually released several massive orbs of light that floated nearby and illuminated the entire underground space. They then saw, at the very center of this underground area, a group of soldiers forming a circle, apparently guarding something.
However, when those soldiers, roughly a hundred strong, saw Sun Wukong and his party jump down, they had no reaction, just like the fifty shield soldiers outside. "Let me handle this one; I love picking on those who don't fight back," Wu Ming quickly said upon seeing more than a hundred Underworld God Army soldiers encircling in two layers.
However, Wu Ming didn't transform into the red fog as before; instead, he approached in human form. "Oi, hey there, I'm Wu Ming and I'm coming closer, why aren't you hitting me, huh?" he said, leaping forward five steps and continuing, "Wu Ming is five steps closer now, if you don't hit me, I'll keep coming closer." Listening to Wu Ming's brazen words, Sun Wukong and the others all grimaced, only Hei Kui laughed heartily, seemingly used to this behavior.
Wu Ming had walked until he was two meters away from the Underworld God Army, yet they still did not move. Suddenly, he turned around, waved to Sun Wukong and the rest, and was about to say something when he noticed the others' expressions change drastically. He realized something was wrong too late.
Because he had turned his back to show off to Sun Wukong and the others and had been misled by those shield soldiers before, he hadn't taken the situation seriously. By the time he sensed danger, he had time only to step forward, followed by a scream. Behind him, three of the previously immobile Underworld God Army soldiers moved swiftly, thrusting their long spears upward from below.
The result was that three sharp long spears directly pierced the space between Wu Ming's legs, which he had parted due to taking a step, burying themselves more than a fifth of their length. The five distant onlookers all winced, feeling a sudden sense of pity for Wu Ming. What did it mean to revel in one's success or fall from grace? Wu Ming, in that moment, was a prime example. However, Sun Wukong and the others didn't step forward to rescue Wu Ming.
After a scream of agony, Wu Ming erupted in rage, his form flickering as he turned into a deep red mist which then enveloped all of the Underworld God Army. But as Wu Ming's blood mist covered the soldiers, they suddenly sprang into action, trios pressing their palms together and forming a black barrier around themselves, effectively locking Wu Ming's blood mist out.
Enraged, Wu Ming paid them no attention; feeling that his blood mist was ineffective, he steeled his heart, and the originally deep red mist darkened further, rapidly transforming into a dark red liquid. The hundred-plus Underworld God Army soldiers appeared to be enveloped in a massive clump of dark red blood.
"This is bad, these Underworld God Army soldiers have their own wills, get ready to attack. Hei Kui, find a way to control them!" The moment Sun Wukong's command dropped, his Golden Hoop Rod spun in his hand, and a spatial rift opened between him and the Underworld God Army. "Wu Ming, leave me an opening," he ordered. Although Wu Ming was furious, he dared not ignore Sun Wukong's words, controlling the dark red liquid to form a gap.
As soon as the breach appeared, the three Underworld God Army soldiers shrouded in black light flashed in an instant, and they had already left the coverage of the liquid. However, before they could even touch the ground, they vanished. In the World Within the Artifact of Sun Wukong's Jingu Bang, the space above the Thunder Pond suddenly split open, and the three men appeared and then with a splash, fell into the Thunder Pond. Sun Wukong's figure appeared soon after, looking at the three struggling Underworld God Army soldiers in the Thunder Pond as if he had suddenly understood something!
But soon, Sun Wukong was surprised to find that the three men actually swam to the shore of the Thunder Pond and were now laboriously climbing out. This surprised Sun Wukong, what exactly were the bodies of these Underworld God Army soldiers made of that not even the Thunder Pond could dissolve them? It was known that the Thunder Pond in the World Within the Artifact of the Jingu Bang could dissolve even the soul of a Domain Lord Level like the Falling Thunder Daoist. Sun Wukong was now exerting his full strength, yet those three still persisted.
Then Sun Wukong discovered that the reason these three men were not dissolved by the Thunder Pond was that, aside from their physically strong bodies, it was mainly because of the chains on them that were emanating a strange glow. With his Heaven and Earth Fire Eyes, Sun Wukong could clearly see that whenever their bodies were dissolved by the Thunder Pond, the glow from those chains would repair the dissolved areas.
He sighed internally at the amazingness of these chains, it seemed they indeed had the ability to make one immortal. But now, the power within Sun Wukong's body that glowed with black and white light could no longer be used, thus he couldn't extract their souls as he did with the Falling Thunder Daoist last time. Since extraction wasn't an option, he decided to dissolve their souls as well.
Thinking this, Sun Wukong sat cross-legged, pressing his palms together, and then above the Thunder Pond, a pattern of the Five Elements generating and overcoming each other had already taken shape! Soon after, five colors of light erupting from the pattern, representing an invisible power, intersected and flowed into each other, covering the entire Thunder Pond below. Originally, the Thunder Pond contained purely liquid Thunder Primordial Force, but now illuminated and merged by the power of the Five Elements, the entire pond had turned into a swirling mix of five-colored waters of even speed.
Those three Underworld God Army soldiers who had managed to get their upper bodies onto the shore were seemingly dragged by some immense force, submerged back into the Thunder Pond, and swept into the very center. No sign of fear was visible on the faces of the three men; in fact, they showed no emotion at all. Although different in appearance, all their faces were as if carved from stone, neither showing fear nor joy. If not for the frantic movements of their limbs and the life force within them, anyone would be forgiven for mistaking them as statues.
It didn't take long for the struggling Underworld God Army soldiers to slow down. Meanwhile, Sun Wukong pondered another issue in his mind. When he had first discovered the World Within the Artifact of the Jingu Bang, it was the attraction of the Wasteland Soil Stele inside that caught his attention, and back then, it was empty, devoid of anything.
Later, after absorbing the Five-Colored Divine Stone representing the Earth Element from his own body, mountains, wilderness, and soil began to form within, and it had gone through a series of changes to achieve its current form. Although he had not attempted it formally during his time in the Pangu Realm, Sun Wukong knew that the Jingu Bang back then could easily pull people into it, and Ji Meng and Ying Zhao, who were still practicing inside, were proof of this.
Later, when he arrived at the Netherworld World, he did not open it due to concerns about not fitting in until he met Yao Wumeng. He and Xi Zhao had fled in embarrassment, the Zhen Jietian was taken back by itself, and that was when he guessed he could enter here once more, and he had also tried bringing some precious plants and elixirs from the Netherworld World for Ji Meng and Ying Zhao to use. After that, he had come to the Patrolling Celestial World, where he had opened this World Within the Artifact many times without any anomalies, and he had even used it to absorb the Thunder System Power from Bai Yi of the Transforming Thunder Ancestral Realm and the Falling Thunder Daoist, eventually dragging the entire Falling Thunder Daoist into it and extracting his soul into the Thunder Pond. Although at that time, he had been controlled by the master of the black and white light, Sun Wukong was equally aware of it.
In addition, when he attacked Myriad Spirits Realm by surprise, he also used the World Within the Artifact of the Jingu Bang to contain people, without any mishaps. But when he tried to pull Sha Wujing and the little monkey in, the inside had a reaction of rejection. Up until recently, the Dragon Emperor, Ye Zi, Wu Ming, and Hei Kui had all tried, but like the little monkey, they were unable to enter.
There definitely was some pattern that he had not discovered, otherwise such a situation would not have occurred. It must be that either no one could enter, or anyone could. Now, some people could enter while others could not; there must be something in common between these two groups of people. If this commonality were found, it would undoubtedly be of great benefit to future battles.
Especially now, these Underworld God Army soldiers could enter too. (To be continued.
