Haikyuu - I Am A Different Hinata!

Chapter 59: Chapter 59 - Finalist

"WE DID IT!" Tanaka shouted.

"YEAAAAHH!" Nishinoya yelled.

"WE'RE IN THE FINALS!" Daichi cheered, along with Asahi and Sugawara, who ran in from the bench in an instant.

"NICE!" Kageyama said, clenching his fists and looking down at them.

"Finalists, huh... not bad at all!" Hinata thought as he watched his teammates celebrate.

"Hey! Tsukishima! Show some reaction!" Nishinoya said, trying to pat Tsukishima on the back.

"Leave me alone!" Tsukishima huffed, running around the court with Nishinoya chasing after him.

"What a relief! The match wasn't too hard, but I can never relax until the game is over..." Takeda said, taking a deep breath.

"Hey, Sensei, save some of that energy for the final. That's the one where you'll really need nerves of steel!" Ukai warned.

"Hey! You're Hinata, right?" a voice said. When Hinata turned around, he saw that it was Okudake.

"Yeah, that's me!" Hinata replied in his usual carefree tone.

"This idiot has something to say to you!" Okudake said, kicking Terushima in the back.

"Alright... I just wanted to say that during our match, I realized that playing volleyball without aiming for victory isn't worth it. But even so, I'll never give up my freedom! Or the number of that pretty manager!" Terushima said, pointing at Shimizu.

"WHAT DID THAT BASTARD JUST SAY?" Nishinoya asked, using his intimidation face.

"EVEN AFTER GETTING HIS ASS KICKED IN THE MATCH, HE STILL DOESN'T KNOW HIS PLACE!" Tanaka said, marching towards Terushima alongside Nishinoya.

"Wait! I apologize on his behalf. This idiot doesn't know what he's saying!" Misaki said, stepping in between Tanaka/Nishinoya and Terushima.

"Oh, right! I guess everyone deserves a third chance!" Tanaka said, scratching his shaved head, embarrassed.

"I agree, Ryu!" Nishinoya said, also feeling awkward.

"Either way, I have to thank your team. I won't be in the next tournament, but just making it to the semifinals and seeing the younger players on my team learn a lesson was already worth it!" Okudake said, now speaking not just to Hinata, but to whoever was listening.

"It was a pleasure playing against you and your team. It was fun!" Daichi said, extending his hand for a handshake.

"Absolutely!" Okudake said, shaking his hand.

"Alright! Let's pack up and head out!" Daichi said.

"Wait a second! They said they wanted us to do another one of those interviews, and they'll be doing the same with Shiratorizawa," Ukai said.

"Another interview, huh..." Daichi sighed, thinking about having to speak in front of the cameras again.

"Of course, there should be another interview! After all, we're in the final!" Tanaka said.

"Anyway, they said they'd be waiting at the exit for the winning team," Ukai concluded.

"Okay, let's wrap things up here and head over," Daichi said.

After a few minutes, the entire Karasuno team was ready for the interview. When they arrived at the exit, they saw the same guy holding a microphone and another guy carrying a big camera.

"Glad you could make it. Can we start?" the man with the microphone asked.

"Yes!" Daichi said as the players lined up behind him.

"Good afternoon, everyone! We're here with the biggest surprise of the tournament, the Karasuno team, who have made it to the finals!" the interviewer began.

"First of all, congratulations on your qualification! We'd like to know how you feel about reaching the final of such an important tournament, especially as a team that many doubted could make it this far!" the interviewer asked.

"As I said in the last interview, not many people believed in us, but I'm sure every single member of this team believed we could do it. It feels amazing to be in the spotlight, but it's not over until we win the finals and make it to Nationals!" Daichi said, trying not to stutter.

"And how do you view the match against Shiratorizawa? Are you confident you can win?" the interviewer asked.

"We respect them. They're a team that fights for the title every year, but I don't think it's impossible for us to beat them. We'll give it our all to overcome them," Daichi concluded.

"And now, Hinata, are you still confident in winning your personal duel against Wakatoshi Ushijima?" the interviewer asked, stepping closer to Hinata.

"Well, I still stand by my belief of not losing to anyone, but this game is much more than just me and him. In the end, the best team has to win, not necessarily the best Ace. Our team has been breaking every barrier in our way, and I see him as just another one of those barriers," Hinata said.

"Thank you very much!" the interviewer said, ending the interview.

"Why did he only ask Hinata? He should've asked something to each of us!" Tanaka complained as he got on the bus.

"Of course, they're going to focus on Hinata. He's the star and the most eye-catching player on our team. Do you really think a TV channel will give enough screen time for each of us to talk?" Sugawara said with a grin.

"Suga's right! We're already getting plenty of attention. We need to put the pressure on Shiratorizawa and stay the underdogs like we always do!" Daichi said, getting ready for a nap.

"Easy for you to say! As captain, you always get to talk to the cameras!" Tanaka complained.

"HEY! Shut up and let me sleep!" Daichi yelled, losing his patience.

"Hey, Hinata! I liked how you included the team in your answer instead of making it all about you and Ushijima. I'm proud of you!" Ukai said, giving a thumbs-up next to Takeda as Hinata, the last one to board the bus, climbed the steps.

As usual, the Karasuno players used the ride back to nap, and when they arrived, they were greeted with a warm reception from part of the school.

"Hey! It's the volleyball team!" a student shouted.

"YOU GUYS WERE AMAZING!" a girl yelled.

"WE'LL BE CHEERING FOR YOU TOMORROW!" another student shouted.

"DON'T YOU DARE LOSE!" another one added.

"Hey! You guys are late! The news is about to start!" Michimiya said.

"Wait, weren't you guys cheering at the gym?" Daichi asked.

"Yeah! But we came back with the team association and got here before you!" she replied.

The Karasuno players gathered in a room with a TV to watch the news.

"Good afternoon! Today, we had the Interhigh Preliminaries semifinals, which grant a spot in the Interhigh. The underdog-turned-favorite, Karasuno, convincingly defeated Johzenji, confirming their favoritism without dropping a single set and maintaining their undefeated streak," a female reporter announced on TV.

"See! That's us!" Tanaka said, watching the highlights.

"Oh, there's Daichi-san! And Hinata!" Nishinoya pointed out as their interviews aired.

"Karasuno? I didn't expect them to beat Aoba Johsai and Oikawa. But in the end, the opponent doesn't matter. What matters is winning, and that's what we're going to do," Ushijima said confidently in his interview.

"As for Hinata Shoyo, I haven't seen much of him yet, but he seems like a talented player... though he still lacks experience," Ushijima added, making the Karasuno players tense—until Tanaka spoke up.

"That bastard is clearly underestimating us," Tanaka said.

"Of course he is. We're the 'failed' team that came out of nowhere, and they're the ones used to winning," Tsukishima said.

"That's not a bad thing for us. Besides, as the saying goes... the higher they are, the harder they fall," Hinata said with a confident smile.
