Harry Potter and The Game of Eternity

Chapter 15: Chapter 15: The Shattered Veil

Quest Update:

[The Broken Prophecy]

• Objective: Decipher the full meaning of the prophecy.*

• Progress: 75%

• "One shall fall so the other may ascend."

• Current Status: The balance between betrayal and redemption has shifted.

The Aftermath of Betrayal

The dust of the collapsed chamber still hung in the air, thick with the acrid scent of burnt stone and scorched magic. The battle with the Hand of the Lords had left its mark—not just on the ruins of the Department of Mysteries, but on Harry's heart.

He sat in silence beside Draco Malfoy, both of them bruised, battered, and barely conscious.

The silence between them was heavy. Not the tense silence of enemies, but the awkward, fragile quiet between two people who should've killed each other—but didn't.

Draco finally broke it.

"You should've let me die."

Harry didn't look at him. "Yeah, probably."

A bitter laugh escaped Draco's lips, followed by a groan of pain. "And yet… here we are."

Harry finally turned to face him, his green eyes hard but not without something else beneath the surface—understanding.

"You're not the first person to betray me," Harry muttered. "But maybe you'll be the first to make it right."

Draco didn't respond.

But he didn't deny it either.

The Prophecy's Echo

Later that night, after they'd escaped the wreckage and found shelter in a hidden safehouse deep within London's magical underground, Harry couldn't sleep.

The words of the prophecy haunted him:

"One shall fall so the other may ascend."

His Gamer System chimed softly.

Quest Update: [The Broken Prophecy]

• Progress: 75%

• New Objective: Seek the Oracle hidden beyond the Veil of Death.

• Hint: "Where the living meet the echoes of the lost, truth shall be unveiled."

• Reward: ???

The Veil of Death.

Harry's stomach twisted. He knew exactly where that was.

The Death Chamber—the same place Sirius had fallen through all those years ago.

It wasn't just a doorway to death.

It was a gateway to forgotten truths.

If there were answers to the prophecy, they would be there.

A Reluctant Alliance

Draco insisted on coming with him.

"Don't flatter yourself, Potter. I'm not doing this for you," Draco muttered, strapping on enchanted bracers and checking his wand. "I'm doing it because if the Lords of Magic win, they'll kill me next."

Harry didn't argue.

They both knew the truth.

Draco wasn't just here to survive.

He wanted redemption.

And Harry wasn't sure if he'd ever admit that out loud.

The Veil of Death

They infiltrated the Ministry under the cover of night, slipping through hidden corridors and disarmed wards until they reached the Death Chamber—a vast, circular room with stone steps descending toward the ancient archway at its center.

The Veil fluttered silently, as if stirred by a wind that didn't exist.

Harry felt its pull immediately—a whisper at the edge of his mind, voices of the lost calling out from beyond.

"Whatever we find in there," Draco muttered, "I hope it's worth it."

Harry swallowed hard.

It has to be.

Together, they stepped through the Veil.

The Realm Between Life and Death

Passing through the Veil was like diving into icy water and waking up submerged in shadows.

The world beyond was a twisted reflection of reality—familiar, yet distorted. Floating islands drifted in a vast, starless sky. Ghostly figures wandered aimlessly, their faces blurred, lost in eternal echoes.

But Harry wasn't here for them.

He was here for the Oracle.

His Gamer System flickered.

New Objective: Find the Oracle of the Veil.

• Threat Level: UNKNOWN

• Warning: This realm does not obey the rules of life and death.

They navigated the strange landscape, following faint trails of magical energy that felt older than anything Harry had ever known.

Until finally, they reached a towering obelisk made of obsidian, surrounded by runes carved into the very fabric of the void.

And there, at its base, sat the Oracle—a figure cloaked in tattered robes, their face hidden beneath a hood that seemed to swallow light itself.

Harry stepped forward.

"I'm here for the prophecy."

The Oracle's voice was like a whisper carried on the wind.

"You seek what should not be known."

"I don't care," Harry snapped. "Tell me what it means."

The Oracle slowly lifted its head, revealing empty sockets where eyes should have been.

"Then you must pay the price."

The Price of Knowledge

Before Harry could react, tendrils of shadow shot out from the Oracle, wrapping around his chest, pulling him into a vision so vivid it felt like reality itself.

Flashes of the future.

A battlefield drenched in blood and fire.

Hogwarts in ruins.

Familiar faces lying broken—Hermione, Ron, even Draco.

And Harry himself, standing alone atop a mountain of ash, the Staff of the First Archmage in hand, his eyes glowing with power… and emptiness.

Then—a voice.

"To ascend, one must fall. To rule, one must lose everything."

Harry was ripped back into the present, gasping for breath.

The Oracle's voice echoed in his skull.

"You will lose what you love to gain what you seek."

Harry stumbled back, trembling.

"That's not an answer!" he shouted.

But the Oracle simply whispered:

"It is the only answer."

The Lords Strike Back

Before Harry could process the vision, the Veil rippled violently.

Through the shifting shadows stepped figures clad in dark robes—the Lords of Magic themselves.

They had followed him.

The leader stepped forward, face hidden behind a mask of polished bone.

"You should have stayed in the shadows, boy," the Lord hissed.

Draco stood beside Harry, wand drawn.

"Looks like they brought the welcoming party."

Harry clenched his fists around the staff.

"Then let's show them we're not afraid."

Boss Battle Initiated:

[The Lords of Magic's Vanguard]

• Threat Level: LEGENDARY

• Objective: Survive and escape the Veil.

The battle was brutal. Magic collided with magic, the fabric of reality itself tearing around them.

Harry unleashed every spell he knew, the Staff amplifying his power beyond anything he'd ever experienced.

But the Lords were relentless.

Draco fought like a man possessed, covering Harry's back even as he took hit after hit.

But it wasn't enough.

One of the Lords struck Draco with a curse so dark it made Harry's blood run cold.

Draco collapsed, gasping for breath, his eyes filled with pain.

"Run," Draco rasped.

Harry's heart twisted.

But he couldn't leave him.

Not again.

With a roar of fury, Harry channeled all his magic into the Staff.

"VOID NOVA!"

A massive explosion of dark energy erupted, tearing through the Lords and giving Harry the chance he needed.

He grabbed Draco and dragged him back through the Veil, collapsing as they emerged on the other side.

Aftermath

Draco was unconscious, barely alive.

Harry's hands trembled as he tried to heal him, but the curse was unlike anything he'd seen.

His Gamer System flashed.

Quest Update:

• The Broken Prophecy: 90% Complete

• Draco Malfoy: Critically Wounded

• New Objective: Save Draco's life or let fate take its course.

Harry clenched his fists, his mind racing.

"One shall fall so the other may ascend."

Was this it?

Was this the moment?

Would Draco's death be the price of Harry's rise?

Or could he defy fate itself?
