Chapter 408: Chapter 408: The Coup
In a waterfront estate in Stockholm, the Wizards' Union was holding an emergency meeting.
"Norway, Finland, Germany, Egypt, Spain, etc..." A wizard stood on the stage, "Magical creatures and phenomena are being witnessed by Muggles frequently all over. I must harshly criticize the attitude of member countries towards the enforcement of the Wizards' Secrecy Act!"
"Our secrecy is in grave danger. Wake up! Or our world will face a catastrophic blow!"
"Bang!" A water cup was smashed on the podium.
"Idiots!" A flat-nosed wizard bellowed from below, "Our world has already faced a catastrophic blow! Not from Muggles, but from Murphy and his anti-wizard insurgents! They are the cause of all this!"
"Please don't use such excuses to cover up the fact that you haven't been working diligently," the moderator said.
"Open your eyes, you fools! You're all cowards, afraid of Murphy, afraid of the war with him, so you pretend the chaos he causes is natural?"
"You're as dumb as ostriches burying their heads in the sand!"
"Terrifying magic disasters are occurring everywhere, with an intensity and frequency never seen before!"
"And all because of Murphy's actions. He broke the Secrecy Act, and we've all heard the truth, magic becomes uncontrollable with the breakdown of the Secrecy Act!"
"Instead of solving these magic disasters one by one, we should be discussing how to stop Murphy!"
"Why stop him?" Suddenly, a heavily eye-shadowed Italian witch asked, "Haven't you noticed that our spell power is also becoming stronger?"
"But magic is causing disasters, countless Muggles have died because of magic disasters, and many wizards are in danger too!" the flat-nosed wizard reminded.
"What do we care if Muggles die?" the witch snorted, "We hid from them in the past because we feared their power. But now, our power is growing while Muggles are weakened by magic disasters. I see nothing to worry about."
"Damn, are you a follower of Grindelwald?" the flat-nosed wizard said with disgust.
"We're not followers of that old man Grindelwald," the witch said, showing a scornful smile, "Don't you understand? Our opportunity has come. Haven't you seen what Murphy Darkholme has done?"
"He controlled the Muggles of Britain, turning it into a wizard-ruled nation!"
"And we can do the same!"
The room erupted into noise. The flat-nosed wizard sighed; every so often, wizards like this would emerge, thinking they could replicate Murphy's path to success. The delusional witch in front of him was clearly one of them.
He was about to counter when the door was pushed open. Several wizards, ignoring the protests from outside, entered the meeting.
"We are wizards from Britain, representing the British Ministry of Magic, and Mr. Murphy Darkholme, to convey some messages to you all." The leading British wizard said.
After more arguments, the British wizard's representative was invited to the stage. This was their first envoy sent to the meeting after withdrawing from the Wizards' Union, and everyone was eager to hear what they would say.
"First, I need to inform you all of some facts."
"We are being invaded." The British wizard said, placing a photo on a device, and an image projected in front of everyone.
"Sirens." Then, he switched the photo, "Gorgons."
"Minotaurs."
"Hydras."
"Giant Crab Deity."
After showing a dozen photos, the British wizard finally said, "These are magical creatures that had disappeared or were extinct, some even mythological, but they are resurging."
"These creatures are very powerful and extremely dangerous. They are disrupting the order we depend on for survival."
"Therefore, the British Ministry of Magic calls on wizards worldwide to unite and confront this global-scale magic resurgence disaster."
"We've found that countries continue to handle these events in the old ways, overlooking their uniqueness, thus suffering great losses. Many wizards have been injured or killed in dealing with these disasters, which we do not wish to see."
"Consequently, the British Ministry of Magic will offer assistance to all countries. We have a mature training mechanism and a good command system that can greatly improve the survival rate of wizards. We sincerely hope wizards from all countries can join our forces to fight together."
However, the British wizard's proposal received no response.
What a joke, hand our people over to you for training? Accept your command? As if Murphy's influence wasn't big enough already?
Eventually, the British wizard was driven out of the meeting.
After the meeting ended, the previously speaking witch used her door key to return to her country. That night, a group of young wizards gathered in a basement in Rome.
"As we expected, the Wizards' Union is full of fools and stubborn old men. They dare not talk about Murphy, nor dare to oppose him. They're afraid of him. But we've already investigated Murphy. He's nothing but a fraud, a businessman, nothing remarkable! He obtained his power just because he was bold enough to use magic against a bunch of Muggles who know nothing about magic!"
"If he can do it, so can we!"
The witch pulled out a crude map, "This is the Muggle city, this is the Parliament Square. I've already investigated; those important Muggle officials all meet here."
"We can break in, then capture their leader. I know the soul-stealing curse, or Jahan can use polyjuice potion to take his place. Controlling him is simple, and once we control him, we control the Muggle nation!"
"Murphy could use Muggle weapons and so-called Muggle magic, and so can we! We can do better than him!"
The rest of the wizards nodded, "Tell us your plan, Jacqueline."
"Okay, Sacre, you're in charge of contacting more allies. You had many friends at school, right? What are they doing now? Washing dishes or feeding Mooncalfs? Call them over, tell them, if they help us win this war, everyone will have more money than they can spend!"
"Okai, your father is the guardian auror for the Muggle president, right? Slip a few drops of Draught of Living Death into his drink. Let him have a good sleep. When he wakes up, he'll thank you."
"Anric, I remember you know the Fiendfyre curse? If things get troublesome, just release Fiendfyre and burn all those troublesome Muggles."
After assigning tasks to a dozen more of her comrades and even allocating positions for after the coup, Jacqueline gestured grandly, "Get ready to act, let those Muggles see what we're capable of!"
