Harry Potter Isn’t Holding Back Anymore

Chapter 11: Cleansing the Soul's Shadow

GOBLINS POV – as the Goblins began chanting, they saw their client relax and close his eyes. A few minutes into the chanting, they saw a nearly opaque white mist appear over his body, which then split into two: one formed a writhing basilisk, the other a golden griffin. The two appeared to be guardians watching over the boy, faced outwards. Directly over his scar, however a black and red roiling bundle of energy emitted a most foul and evil essence. They immediately knew this was no ordinary magical energy leach. They tried "pulling" it away from their client with no success.

A Master Healer was called in. The Master Healer agreed that it this was no ordinary leach and called in a Master Curse Breaker. The Goblin Curse Breaker immediately recognized the leach as a horcrux. Standard Goblin procedure was to transfer a horcrux from its typical inanimate vessel to one that is not valuable, and then destroy it with magical fire or dragon breath. The Goblin Curse Breaker tried to follow standard procedure, and tried to transfer the horcrux to a stone he picked up off the ground. The horcrux however, was not cooperating – it stayed latched onto their client, pulling on his very soul. As the connection between horcrux and soul was stretched, a bejeweled sword, the fabled sword of Gryffindor, not seen by Goblin eyes for over a millennium, appeared above the connection.

The basilisk guardian dripped cloudy venom onto the sword just before the sword descended onto and through the connection, severing the horcrux from their client's soul. The sword then disappeared! The horcrux itself let out an intense scream of anger, blowing the Goblins backwards in the backlash of release, and then the black and red swirling mist dissipated. The Goblins lay in shock for a few seconds and then, realizing their client was arching his back in pain, continued their chanting until the guardians returned back into the body and the ritual was over.

After the ritual, Harry was allowed to rest until the next day before proceeding with the next step of his healing. When Harry woke up, he knew Potter Luck had found him again. He called for Dobby, who was waiting in the corner wringing his hands continuously. Harry asked Dobby what day it was and if Hermione had tried to contact him. He then prepared a short note to Hermione explaining he would be unreachable for a few days and not to worry.

While he was resting, a meeting was taking place in the Director's office. The Goblin curse breaker and healers relayed to the Director the happenings during the removal of the leach/horcrux from their client. The appearance of the guardians as well as Gryffindor's sword, unrequested as it was, implied there was much, much more to their client than thought before. He directed Griphook to look into their client's ancestry more.

The following day, Harry's badly repaired bones were vanished and regrown with the Goblin equivalent of Skelegrow potion. Like Skelegrow, this potion took 24 hours to fully replace the broken bones. This was then followed by release of the bindings. Prior to releasing the bindings, they were evaluated to determine what they were binding, when the bindings were put in place, and who did the binding. The first binding was put in place when he was one year old, on his ability to summon. It appeared to have been put in place by a healer. The second binding was put in place when he was approximately four, while the third binding was put in place when he was six. Both bindings were on his core, both by the same person.

The second binding should have been removed before replacing it with the third, but it was not totally removed. It appeared both bindings were put in place by Headmaster Dumbledore. The Goblins decided they would remove first the binding on the summoning ability, and then the third binding. They figured that, with the expanding of his core as a result of the release, the second binding, which was already frayed, would easily break anyway; and so they did. Little did they perceive that Potter luck would strike.

When releasing the first binding, the Goblin healers experienced a surge of magical energy which nearly bowled them over (again). It was the backlash of the (early) breaking of the second binding they had not accounted for. Seconds after the backlash from the initial release, the second binding burst, blowing out the doors and windows of all the Gringotts offices within a 10 meter radius of the ritual chamber.

Luckily, no one was seriously injured by the blast, but the offices were left in shambles. The Goblin healers decided to allow their patient time for his magical core to settle before proceeding with the third binding. A few hours later, they released the third binding. The release of magical energy as a result of releasing this binding was much stronger than the second – literally blowing the healers back, along with any furniture not bolted down. Luckily, the healers had hardened the room against such backlashes (as well as added cushioning charms) after the last one, but it was a close call.

When Harry came to, it looked to him as if he was in the center of a blast zone. Everything around him was in shambles. Goblin healers approached him with caution, casting spells to check if his core was stable. Upon determining it was safe to approach, they did so, updating him with their findings. The healers then prescribed (and provided him with) nutrient potions for the next six weeks. Harry's last request was, if possible to remove the scar on his forehead. Other than a salve to put on the scar, they didn't know how to remove it – to Goblins scars were revered mementoes of battles won or survived.
