Chapter 170: Chapter 170 Kāma: The Secret of Reincarnation
It had been a long time since Hamura had encountered someone like Tatsuya—someone who showed no regard for his authority or presence. For several moments, he remained silent before finally speaking again.
"Kāma."
"Kāma?" Tatsuya repeated, his brow furrowing slightly.
"This is a unique ability of the Ōtsutsuki clan the clan that brought Chakra to the Ninja world," Hamura began, his tone calm and measured, like a teacher explaining a lesson. "By embedding one's chakra into another being, it creates a semi-survival state. Even after death, our chakra remains anchored to the host."
Hamura continued, "The Kāma Technique used by my brother and me is particularly unusual. Our chakra can reincarnate within our hosts and remain intact even through cycles of rebirth. For thousands of years, we've dwelled within them, observing the changing world and intervening when necessary."
"That's... incredible," Hinata gasped softly, her hands covering her lips in amazement.
Tatsuya, however, remained unfazed. "So, your brother used the Kāma Technique to lodge his essence into his two sons back then, didn't he? And you did the same—embedding yourself in your descendants?" He chuckled, his tone laced with mockery. "At the end of the day, you just didn't want to die, did you? And I'm guessing the Kāma Technique has more to it than you're letting on, right?"
For a long time, Tatsuya had puzzled over how Black Zetsu had managed to use Six Paths Madara's body to resurrect Kaguya. But after hearing Hamura's explanation of the Kāma Technique, the pieces were finally coming together.
Hamura's silence lingered longer this time before he responded. "The chakra embedded in a host can indeed take over their body. Once the takeover is complete, the technique allows the original owner of the chakra to resurrect using the host's body."
If Hinata had been astonished before, now she was utterly speechless. Her eyes widened as the full implications of the Kāma Technique sank in.
"This... this is practically a method for perfect resurrection," she murmured, her voice trembling with disbelief.
Tatsuya's expression shifted, his eyes narrowing slightly as a faint smirk tugged at his lips.
Black Zetsu wasn't so much Kaguya's "son" as he was a manifestation of her will—a physical embodiment of her mind or chakra. When he infused himself into Six Paths Madara's body, he effectively completed the Kāma Technique, leading to Kaguya's immediate resurrection. That was the underlying principle.
This was why Kaguya, with tears in her eyes and a heart full of motherly love, called Naruto and Sasuke by the names of her beloved sons, Hamura and Hagoromo, before she turned to kill them.
"Honestly, your albino family is downright horrific," Tatsuya sneered, his tone dripping with contempt. "So, what now? Why drag me and this girl into the spiritual world? Let me guess—you're planning to use this brat's body for your resurrection?"
Hamura's expression shifted ever so slightly, the deep lines on his face twitching in irritation. His voice, calm yet weighted, filled the void. "While it's true my elder brother and I employed the Kāma on our descendants, neither of us ever intended to exploit their bodies for our resurrection. Toneri and his father have committed grave sins, and their punishment is just. I have no intention of interfering."
He paused, his gaze narrowing as he shifted his attention to Hinata, who had remained largely unnoticed until now. Her presence, though quiet, seemed to draw his focus.
"However..." Hamura began, his voice trailing as though lost in thought. He exhaled slowly, his eyes settling on her with a curious intensity. "I had never anticipated that the descendants of the branch house left behind on Earth under the protection of my elder brother, would one day carry such a pure bloodline and byakugan of my family."
The Hyuga clan, split into the main and branch families since at least the Sengoku era, had long been steeped in pride and division. For many of the main house's descendants, their lineage was a source of great pride. Yet, they remained ignorant of a fundamental truth.
The so-called Hyuga branch family—those who had stayed behind on Earth—were descendants of what the Ōtsutsuki regarded as the "branch house."
When Hamura left Earth to guard the Gedo Statue sealed on the moon, he took the true main family with him. The ones left behind on Earth, now called the Hyuga, were considered no more than a branch house in the eyes of the Ōtsutsuki clan.
Over time, even the Ōtsutsuki clan on the moon split into factions: the main house and the branch house. Similarly, the Hyuga clan on Earth mirrored this division, forming their own main and branch families.
It was hard not to find the irony amusing—how these people managed to keep themselves so preoccupied with internal divisions.
For Hamura, discovering that Hinata, a member of the Earth's branch house, carried his direct bloodline was indeed a surprise.
Tatsuya, on the other hand, blinked thoughtfully, recalling how Sage of Six Paths had managed to awaken the latent potential in his sons' reincarnations during the Fourth Ninja War.
Unable to resist, he asked, "So, can you boost this girl's bloodline?"
Hamura frowned slightly. "Boost? What does that mean?"
"Fine, let me rephrase," Tatsuya replied with a sigh. "Can you awaken her eyes to be like yours?"
In the world of Naruto, wasn't everything about eye powers anyway?
In the original story, Hinata and her sister Hanabi possessed Byakugan of exceptionally pure lineage, earning them the title of "Byakugan Princess." Hamura's direct descendant, Toneri Ōtsutsuki, had even transplanted the sisters' Byakugan to unlock his ancestor's Tenseigan.
The process was eerily reminiscent of Uchiha Madara, another direct descendant of Sage of Six Paths, implanting Senju Hashirama's cells to evolve his Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan into the Rinnegan.
But Tatsuya had no intention of following Toneri's grotesque example by transplanting anything from Hinata. The thought made him shudder, recalling the unsettling dynamics between Madara and Hashirama. Seriously, no thanks. That image is nightmare fuel.
If anything, Tatsuya would rather Hinata stay as she was—a stunningly graceful presence, perhaps a "beautiful vase," but one he preferred unmarred by experimentation.
"Is it possible?" he asked.
Hamura, calm as ever, replied, "My chakra can indeed act as a key to unlock the latent power in her eyes and bloodline. However, the extent of that power remains uncertain."
"Any side effects?" Tatsuya asked, his tone suddenly firm. "If there are, don't bother."
His indifference masked a subtle protectiveness, and he made it clear he wouldn't risk her well-being for power. Hinata was beautiful just the way she was. Tatsuya had no complaints about that.
What's the point of such overwhelming power anyway? He thought. I'm already strong enough on my own.
Hamura blinked twice, taken aback. Why doesn't this kid play by the usual rules?
Did he not grasp the incredible might of the Tenseigan? Did he have no idea what awakening those eyes could mean?
With a sigh, Hamura finally spoke. "If Toneri dies, I will have no control over who my chakra reincarnates into in the next life. Awakening this child's power would use up the last of the chakra I left in this world, and I would pass on to the Pure Land of Bliss."
He paused, his gaze distant as if recalling ancient memories. "The Gedo Statue has already been summoned. I've sensed it through Toneri's body. It's clear there are still those in this world carrying on our mother's will. Someone must be strong enough to stop them."
Hamura turned his steady gaze toward Hinata. His expression softened.
"Child, would you accept this power?" he asked gently.
