Heavenly Book of Reincarnation

Chapter 7: Speed Test Completed

After the staff member's announcement, Nora's eyes sharpened, focusing intently on the dark screen in front of him.

Suddenly, the pitch-black screen lit up, revealing a large number "3" at its center.

Then, the number dropped to "2," then "1," and finally…

Go!

The moment the screen displayed "Go," Nora's muscles tensed. He kicked off the ground with force, propelling himself forward at maximum speed.

Whoosh!

His body shot forward, creating a faint gust of wind in his wake. While his speed wasn't beyond human reaction, it was still something ordinary people could hardly achieve—it had already surpassed the world record for short-distance sprinting.

In no time, he completed the first hundred meters. However, making an abrupt 180-degree turn caught his body slightly off guard.

"Damn, turning around isn't easy. The inertia is massive."

Though he thought so, his steps never slowed.

By the second turn, he had already improved significantly, and from the third turn onward, he was no longer struggling.

Time passed quickly. Now, over a minute had gone by, and Nora was pushing himself to complete his final lap.

Beep!

The stopwatch sounded just as Nora reached the finish line. The staff member immediately began analyzing the data.

Meanwhile, Nora's condition remained excellent. Running continuously at full speed for a thousand meters had only caused his breathing to deepen slightly, and just a few drops of sweat had fallen from his forehead.

The staff member lacked combat experience, so he didn't fully grasp the significance of this. But Alice did.

Seeing this, she felt a surge of excitement.

"So this is what he's so confident about. His stamina is far beyond what an F-rank hero should have. As he matures, this endurance advantage will only become more apparent. One day, he may become one of the strongest among those of his rank."

She didn't outright assume Nora would be the strongest. Alice wasn't naïve enough to believe she understood everything about this world.

After all, the war between heroes and demons had only begun two years ago. There was still too much humanity didn't know about these mysterious powers.

Nora also paid close attention to his results. He walked up to the staff member and asked:

"Did I meet the standard?"

The staff member examined the data for a moment before replying:

"You passed. Your speed dropped slightly after stumbling twice at the start, but you still finished in 80.67 seconds. Please prepare for the final test."

Hearing this, Nora nodded in satisfaction. At last, he was close to becoming a true hero.

Well, in fact, he was already a hero—but being officially recognized by humanity made things much easier than operating as an outlaw.

He turned toward Alice, initially intending to boast a little. However, recalling her physical prowess, he dismissed the thought.

Still, curiosity got the better of him, and he asked:

"Just how fast are you, really?"

Alice felt it was the perfect time to tease him. With a mischievous smile, she replied:

"Not much, not much at all."

Her tone, however, made Nora's face darken. How could he not see the blatant mockery in her words?

But he wasn't someone who avoided reality. With a serious expression, he insisted:

"Come on, just tell me."

Seeing his earnest attitude, Alice immediately—no, of course not—she burst into laughter and said:

"Haha! I already told you, it's not much… just about three times your speed."

The words "about three times" struck Nora like a giant hammer, leaving him momentarily helpless as he sighed in defeat.

"Damn… the gap between us is really that big?"

Alice waved a hand:

"Don't worry. Once you reach Rank E, you'll have similar strength. With your talent, I'm sure you'll get there soon."

Nora smiled at that. With the Reincarnation Divine Art, catching up to her cultivation speed wasn't impossible at all. Then, a sudden thought made his expression turn serious. He asked:

"Where does your talent rank in this world? Is it considered high or low?"

Alice pretended to think for a moment before flashing a wide grin:

"Hehe, I'm not trying to brag, but right now, I'm one of the most talented people in the world."

Nora was taken aback. He didn't think she was lying to him.

But that only made the situation feel even more serious. He thought to himself:

"From what I've deduced, she must have faced a grim fate in the original timeline. Just how powerful are our enemies if even an unparalleled genius like her couldn't defeat them? It looks like I need to reach the highest combat level in this world as soon as possible. If not, it'll be too late to change anything."

At that moment, the staff member finally spoke up:

"If you two are done talking, let's head to the final test location."

He had been listening closely the whole time. After all, Rank E heroes were rare in this world, and he had only encountered one occasionally. He wasn't too familiar with their actual strength.

For someone eager to learn, gaining a bit more knowledge was always a good thing. That's why he hadn't interrupted their conversation.

Nora and Alice both nodded and followed behind the staff member.

.....

After walking for a while, the three of them arrived at a third massive metal door. The mechanism to open it was the same as the previous two.

The giant door slowly creaked open, revealing a completely empty room inside. However, both the walls and the floor were built with an incredibly sturdy design.

At a glance, the place looked like it was designed to be a massive combat training ground.

In the center of the training area, an elderly yet robust man sat cross-legged, seemingly meditating.

His long silver hair was tied loosely behind him, and with his eyes tightly shut, his aura remained unreadable.

He wore a flowing white robe adorned with golden patterns, bearing a design that somewhat resembled royal attire.

Just a quick glance and you can tell he is no ordinary person.
