Chapter 8: First Fight
The faint glow of the Blackwood Wolves' den faded as Feng stepped outside, the world around him bathed in the muted light of a setting sun.
Strength surged through his body, a stark contrast to the frailty he had once known.
He flexed his fingers, marveling at the energy coursing through him.
"I finally have my own Heaven's Pact," Feng murmured, gripping his fist with excitement.
He looked at the tattoo on his back, a massive outline of a Blackwood Alpha Wolf with silver streaks.
"System," he said, his voice steady but filled with anticipation. "What's my current status?"
[Host is currently at the peak of the 4th level of Qi Condensation. The Heaven's Pact with the Mutated Blackwood Alpha Wolf has granted the following abilities:]
[Enhanced physical strength and agility]
[Sharpened senses, including heightened perception and reflexes]
[The ability to manipulate a unique dark and silver energy]
Feng's lips quirked into a faint smile as he absorbed the information.
He had struggled for years, enduring scorn and humiliation for his inability to form a Heaven's Pact.
Now, not only had he succeeded, but it seemed he had bonded with a Heaven's Pact far stronger than average.
"Dark and silver energy, huh? Let's call it darksilver spiritual energy," Feng murmured, holding out his hand.
He focused for a moment, and wisps of swirling energy—dark as midnight and edged with a shimmering silver glow—coalesced around his fingers.
The energy pulsed with power and looked deadly.
"Alright, I should probably figure out what to do from now on. I don't think it's a good idea for me to go back to the village.
People are going to ask questions about where I got my Heaven's Pact, and I'm pretty sure they'll eventually figure out I got it from killing those Blackwood Wolves.
Since I wiped out an entire pack, this means I need to get out of here," Feng thought.
"I should find some way outside of this forest and get to the nearest city.
If I remember correctly, the closest city to our village is called Brightshore City, although I've never been there before.
People without Heaven's Pacts are forbidden from leaving the village because it's basically suicide."
The forest around him seemed quieter than before, the usual cacophony of chirping insects and rustling leaves muted.
As he began walking, his sharpened senses caught faint voices in the distance.
He froze, tilting his head to focus on the sounds.
"…the waste decided to crawl out of the wolves' den?"
The words, laden with mockery, made Feng's eyes narrow.
He moved toward the source of the voices, his steps light and silent.
As he drew closer, the familiar figures of Jun and Ren came into view.
Jun stood amid the remains of the Blackwood Wolves, his expression one of smug amusement.
Ren, his elder and clearly the stronger of the two, leaned casually against a tree, his imposing figure radiating quiet confidence.
"Hoh," Jun sneered as he spotted Feng. "Still alive, huh? I didn't think a broken soul like you could survive an encounter with Blackwood Wolves."
Feng stepped into the clearing, his expression calm but his eyes cold.
He said nothing, his gaze fixed on the pair.
Ren chuckled darkly, his voice dripping with disdain.
"Don't flatter him, Jun. He probably hid while the wolves fought each other. Stumbled out when it was safe, didn't you, waste?"
The insult hung in the air, but Feng remained silent, his posture relaxed.
The lack of reaction seemed to irritate Jun, who crossed his arms and took a step closer.
"What's the matter, waste? Cat got your tongue?"
Feng's voice was even, carrying a calm authority that belied his age.
"You should leave while you still can. Right now, I'm in a good mood."
Jun's eyes widened in mock surprise before he burst into laughter.
"Leave? And let you hoard whatever treasure those wolves had? Not a chance."
He turned to Ren, his grin smug. "Elder Brother Ren, let me handle this."
Ren waved him off with a dismissive gesture.
"Do what you want, but don't waste too much time. If he actually has something valuable, I'll take it myself."
Jun stepped forward, cracking his knuckles.
"You should've stayed in the village, waste. Out here, you're nothing but prey."
Feng didn't respond. Instead, faint wisps of darksilver energy rippled around him, their ominous glow unnoticed by Jun.
"Come on!" Jun roared, summoning his Heaven's Pact.
A flash of blue light erupted from his hand, coalescing into a massive hammer.
The weapon gleamed with a cold azure glow, intricate runes etched along its surface.
"The Azure Hammer," Jun said smugly, hoisting the weapon with ease. "This is a real Heaven's Pact. Let's see what you've got."
Jun charged, the hammer's head trailing arcs of blue light as it swung toward Feng with crushing force.
Feng sidestepped at the last moment, the hammer slamming into the ground with a deafening crash.
Splinters of earth flew into the air, but Feng remained unscathed, his movements fluid and precise.
"You're slow," Feng said, his tone devoid of emotion.
Jun growled, lifting the hammer again.
This time, he infused it with qi, the runes along its surface glowing brighter.
He swung again, the hammer releasing a shockwave of energy.
Feng leapt backward, the shockwave narrowly missing him as it tore through the clearing.
Jun pressed forward, swinging the hammer in rapid succession.
Feng dodged each strike with ease, his movements almost lazy.
The darksilver energy around him began to intensify, swirling like a storm.
"You're running!" Jun taunted, sweat beading on his brow. "Fight me, coward!"
Feng's gaze remained steady. "You rely too much on your weapon."
Jun roared in frustration, pouring more qi into the Azure Hammer.
With a powerful leap, he brought the hammer down in a devastating overhead swing, the ground cracking beneath its weight.
But Feng was ready.
Before the hammer could land, Feng sidestepped and thrust his palm forward. A streak of darksilver energy shot out, colliding with the hammer.
The impact sent Jun staggering backward, his grip on the weapon faltering.
"What is this?!" Jun gasped, staring at the faint burn marks on the hammer's surface.
"It's called darksilver energy; I named it myself," Feng said simply.
Jun's face twisted with rage. He steadied his stance and charged again, swinging the Azure Hammer in a wide arc.
This time, Feng didn't dodge. Instead, he raised both hands, forming a barrier of darksilver energy.
The hammer slammed into the barrier, its runes flickering as it struggled against Feng's power.
For a moment, the clearing was filled with the crackling sound of energy clashing.
Then, with a final burst of force, Feng pushed the hammer aside and stepped forward, his fist glowing with darksilver light.
He struck Jun square in the chest.
The impact sent Jun flying backward, crashing into a tree with a resounding thud as blood sprayed from his mouth.
Jun slumped to the ground, gasping for breath.
His Azure Hammer flickered and disappeared, its form dissolving as Jun's qi waned.
"You… How…?" Jun stammered, clutching his chest.
"You're too reliant on your Heaven's Pact," Feng said, his tone calm but firm. "If you were in my position, you would be less than trash."
