Chapter 25: Hopeless
Cai Xiu felt a surge of irritation.
This man in front of her had ignored her until now, only speaking when it suited him—telling her what to do. The lack of respect and attention gnawed at her pride.
'Uh! This bastard! How dare he!' Cai Xiu fumed internally, letting out a sharp huff as she begrudgingly walked over, her frustration clear in every step.
Though her mind raced with anger, she kept her expression controlled.
"Fine!" Cai Xiu spat, her voice sharp and cutting as she stepped past her fiancé, not sparing him a glance.
She carefully stepped into the sampan, causing it to rock slightly as she settled down. She sat stiffly with her hands resting on her thighs, her eyes fixed ahead, still avoiding looking at her fiancé.
Feng Shen did the same as he entered the sampan, though with grace, positioning himself at the rear of the small boat.
He grasped the yuloh firmly, then turned his gaze toward the bodyguard with a smirk. "As you can see, we're full," he said calmly, his tone mocking, "so you'll have to wait here."
Shadow's eyes went over to the First Young Lady, her expression unreadable but her eyes speaking.
Without a word: "Do I stay or not?" waiting for the command.
Shadow needed confirmation before making any moves.
Cai Xiu waved her hand with a sigh. "Just wait here. This bastard wouldn't be able to lay a finger on my skin even if he wanted to."
With a quick nod, Shadow stepped backward into her personal space, but she didn't close it just yet. Instead, she shot a hateful glare at the Second Young Master of the Feng family.
In response, Feng Shen blew her a teasing kiss, as if to silently say, "Don't worry, I'll take good care of your First Young Lady."
Clicking her tongue in disgust, Shadow fully disappeared, closing her space.
Looking to the side to avoid her fiancé's gaze, Cai Xiu said, "Don't make this too long. I have tea time with the Ninth Princess later."
"Of course, of course." Feng Shen replied, a small grin spreading across his face, reveling in the thought of becoming stronger.
He only cared to grow his power. Having tasted the most heavenly beauties in all the Nine Heavens, he couldn't care less about this jaded beauty in front of him.
Hell, Feng Shen didn't even care about the disrespect at the moment, as his excitement about growing his Spiritual Root overshadowed everything else.
He began moving the sampan, whistling a cheerful tune while looking up at the bright sky and the sun above, mentally counting the clouds that drifted by.
Such a thing greatly annoyed Cai Xiu, who expected him to start dog licking all over her. Instead, he showed no attention to her at all!
'Hello? The most beautiful woman you could ever see is in front of you! Why won't you look at me!?' She was a little in disbelief at his indifference. 'I'm more attractive than the clouds!'
Cai Xiu kept glancing at her fiancé, the urge to speak her mind bubbling beneath the surface. She felt the need to assert herself, to remind him of who she was.
Unfortunately, he didn't even spare her a glance, instead enjoying the peaceful scenery.
Soon enough, they found themselves in the middle of the lake.
Feng Shen stopped moving the sampan and finally looked at his fiancée, a mocking smile gracing his face. He caught her eye, but as soon as their gazes locked, she quickly looked away with a huff.
"Now you're looking at me? You don't deserve to look at my face, you bastard!" Cai Xiu let out a spoiled laugh, placing the back of her hand to her mouth.
She internally patted herself on the back, convinced that she was right, and he was merely acting tough in front of everyone to gain her attention.
"I knew you never changed! You're still pathetic—" Suddenly, Cai Xiu felt movement, and before she could react, the fabric around her waist and below was torn away.
As the sampan rocked violently, she lay on her back, her expression shifting from shock to anger as she realized what was happening.
Although she could have easily dodged this, Cai Xiu never expected him to strike; he was supposed to be a dog licker, after all!
The shock of his sudden aggression left her momentarily paralyzed, and she felt the world around her tilt as her situation took a turn she had never anticipated.
Feng Shen didn't say a word, his expression turning insane as his golden eyes darkened. He let out a low, crazed laugh under his breath.
"LET GO OF ME, YOU BASTARD!" Cai Xiu yelled, her voice filled with fury.
In an instant, her instincts kicked in, and she unleashed her Qi, causing dozens of small blades of thorns to materialize in the sky, aimed directly downward.
In mere milliseconds, the dozen thorn blades shot downward, piercing all of Feng Shen's back. Blood trickled from the wounds, yet he ignored the pain.
"Ah~ pain! Such a good feeling, is it not?" Feng Shen's expression twisted with delight as he licked his lips.
Feeling something warm at her crotch, terror replaced Cai Xiu's anger.
'Why is this happening to me?' Small tears began forming in her eyes.
Cai Xiu couldn't comprehend anything right now.
She was in a higher level of cultivation and had unleashed her most powerful attack, an assault meant to pierce his organs and kill him on the spot.
Yet, instead of the expected result, he had tanked it as if it were nothing.
Cai Xiu found herself utterly helpless, unable to channel her Qi as she struggled to focus. It was a weakness that every cultivator with no experience in battle suffered.
Her instincts, which had been her only hope just moments ago, faded.
The realization that she was at the mercy of someone she had looked down upon crashed down on Cai Xiu like a wave.
It shattered her sense of control and superiority, leaving her feeling exposed and frightened.
Cai Xiu felt hopeless.
