Chapter 11: GUARDIAN OF THE DRAGON’S HEART
The staircase led them into a massive underground chamber, its walls glistening with crystals that reflected a soft, golden light. At the center of the room was a pedestal, and atop it rested the Dragon's Heart—a gem of indescribable brilliance.
Kai's breath caught as he stepped forward, but before he could reach the relic, a figure appeared from the shadows.
She was tall, with flowing silver hair and eyes that gleamed like molten gold. Her armor shimmered with the same light as the crystals, and she carried a spear that pulsed with raw energy.
"I am Aelira, guardian of the Dragon's Heart," she announced, her voice melodic yet commanding. Her gaze locked on Kai. "Only one who is pure of heart and strong of will may claim this power. Prove yourself, Dragon Heir."
Kai stepped forward, but before he could speak, Ryn let out a low whistle. "Pure of heart? Not sure he qualifies," the thief muttered.
Aelira's eyes narrowed, and with a flick of her wrist, her spear pointed at Ryn. "Silence, trespasser. Your presence here is barely tolerated."
Lyria stepped between them, her staff glowing defensively. "Enough. Kai will face your trial, but no one here will be harmed."
Aelira studied Lyria for a moment, her expression softening slightly. "You care deeply for him," she observed.
Lyria's cheeks reddened, but she held her ground. "That's irrelevant. This is his destiny."
Kai glanced at Lyria, surprised by her uncharacteristic reaction. But before he could dwell on it, Aelira raised her spear.
"The trial begins now," she declared, and the room was consumed by blinding light.
