Hitman: Agent X

Chapter 12: No Way Out

The night air was thick with tension. X remained still, gripping his silenced pistol, his heart beating in perfect rhythm with the silence around him. Twelve Echelon operatives. Well-trained, heavily armed. And he was trapped.

From outside, the voice called again through the megaphone.

"Agent X. This is your last chance. Surrender now, or we open fire."

X took a slow breath. Surrender? Not happening.

He needed to move fast. He counted down in his head. Three… two… one.

Boom!

X shot out the single lantern inside the cabin, plunging the interior into total darkness. The moment the light went out, he dropped low and rolled to the side, avoiding the rain of bullets that shredded the wooden walls.

CRACK! CRACK! CRACK!

Rounds tore through the air, splintering furniture and punching holes through the cabin. But they were firing blind now.

X took advantage.

He grabbed a flashbang from his vest, pulled the pin, and tossed it through the nearest window.

BANG!

A blinding explosion of white light and sound erupted outside. Screams. Stumbling footsteps.

X didn't hesitate. He was already moving.

He kicked open the back door and sprinted into the forest. His boots crunched against fallen leaves as he weaved through the trees, staying low. Behind him, the Echelon team was regaining their senses.

"Target is on the move! Engage!"

More gunfire. Bullets whizzed past him, tearing through branches and slicing through the darkness. X gritted his teeth and kept running, knowing he had to reach the road.

His mind worked fast. Prague. Dr. Elias Monroe. If he was going to remove the kill-switch, he needed to get out of Germany alive.

A single mistake, and he was dead.

He spotted a small creek ahead. Without stopping, he jumped in, letting the cold water mask his heat signature from any drones. He submerged for a few seconds, listening.

The forest was quiet.

Then—rustling. Someone was coming.

X slid his silenced pistol out. He had one shot at this.

Footsteps crunched against the wet earth. X remained still, barely breathing.

Then—a voice.

"I know you're there."

Not an Echelon operative. A woman.

X's grip on his pistol tightened. "Who are you?"

A figure stepped into the moonlight. A woman, clad in dark tactical gear, a sniper rifle strapped to her back. She was tall, with sharp blue eyes that didn't waver.

"My name is Raven. And if you want to live long enough to get that kill-switch out, you'd better come with me."

X didn't lower his gun. "Why should I trust you?"

She smirked. "Because I just saved your ass. Echelon sent an execution squad after you. I took them out."

X's eyes flicked behind her. Sure enough, he could barely make out the silhouettes of dead operatives scattered in the brush.

One sniper. Twelve kills.

He exhaled. "What do you want?"

"Same thing you do," Raven said. "To burn Echelon to the ground."
