Chapter 29: Chapter 29: The Dangers of Flying Class

"Remember! When standing on the broomstick, position your feet evenly, maintain your balance, lean slightly forward, and keep your knees naturally bent."

Madam Hooch walked back and forth between the two rows of students, sharply reprimanding anyone who didn't have the correct posture.

"Malfoy, don't keep your arms so stiff! Relax a little and make sure you can control the broomstick flexibly!"

Madam Hooch passed by several times, and each time she noticed Malfoy's incorrect posture.

This forced her to correct him repeatedly.

With each correction, Malfoy's face grew redder, and his movements didn't improve—instead, they became even more rigid.

Ron couldn't help but snicker beside him.

Dylan, on the other hand, paid no attention to the commotion and quickly mastered the safest and most correct posture.

By the time Madam Hooch began inspecting each student's posture, Dylan passed with ease.

Meanwhile, Ron, who had been snickering earlier, was scolded by Madam Hooch for his sloppy and uneven posture.

In fact, it wasn't just Malfoy and Ron who were being corrected by Madam Hooch.

Aside from Dylan, almost everyone received a few words of criticism from her.

While Madam Hooch was busy inspecting the other students' flying postures, Dylan took the opportunity to examine the broomstick in his hands.

Since broomsticks weren't a required item on the school supply list, and Hogwarts provided them for teaching purposes, most students didn't own their own.

Unless, of course, a student was participating in Quidditch matches, in which case they might purchase a broomstick at this stage.

Dylan hadn't bought his own broomstick either, but he had some knowledge about them.

Low-end broomsticks, like the Shooting Star commonly used at school, cost around twenty Galleons.

The Comet 140, a mid-range broomstick, was priced at about eighty Galleons.

Mid-range broomsticks generally ranged from one hundred to three hundred Galleons.

As for high-end broomsticks, like the Firebolt, which was still in development, the starting price was likely in the five-figure range.

Even the Nimbus 2000 only cost a little over three hundred Galleons.

Dylan had recently completed various achievements and earned a fair amount of Galleons as rewards.

Buying a broomstick would be easy for him.

However, he planned to wait until he fully mastered flying before purchasing a Nimbus 2000 as his backup.

There was no need to waste money on a cheap broomstick for transition purposes, especially since he wouldn't be flying often.

He'd rather spend his time studying Apparition.

"There's definitely a permanent Levitation Charm on this," Dylan muttered to himself as he fiddled with the broomstick.

He quickly confirmed that the broomstick had been enchanted with several spells, including the Levitation Charm and the Propulsion Charm.

Additionally, he sensed traces of a Balancing Charm.

One thing had always puzzled him when he watched the movies.

How could wizards fly around on broomsticks without feeling uncomfortable?

Didn't they find it awkward or even painful to sit on a wooden stick for long periods?

After examining the broomstick for a while, Dylan discovered that it was also enchanted with a Cushioning Charm.

Though it looked like a simple wooden stick, sitting on it felt like resting on an invisible cushion.

"No wonder it's a cheap broomstick—it only has a few basic spells," Dylan thought, shaking his head.

He didn't even sense any special runes or high-quality materials in the broomstick.

Its research value was minimal.

So, Dylan stopped fiddling with it and placed the broomstick between his legs.

Sitting on the invisible cushion, he waited for Madam Hooch's next instructions.

Once everyone's posture had been thoroughly corrected, Madam Hooch finally prepared them for their first attempt at flying.

"Listen carefully to my command. When you hear the whistle, push off the ground forcefully. Do you understand? You must use force! Imagine yourself soaring into the air!"

Madam Hooch, dressed in her black Quidditch referee robes with green lining, walked with a commanding presence, though not as intimidating as Professor Snape.

She now held a wooden whistle in her hand.

"Now, get ready. You only need to rise a few feet, hover for a moment, then lean forward and return to the ground."

"Listen for my whistle—three, two…"

Before Madam Hooch could finish counting, Neville, standing beside Dylan, instinctively pushed off the ground and shot into the air.

"What are you doing? Come down at once!" Madam Hooch's sharp gaze turned to Neville.

She thought the young wizard was deliberately trying to take off before the others.

However, after her command, Neville only grew more panicked and rose higher into the air.

Dylan frowned and immediately drew his wand.

"Reducto—no, I mean…"

"Finite Incantatem!"

Dylan quickly cast the counter-spell.

But when the spell hit the broomstick, it had no effect.

He furrowed his brows.

Since the broomstick's enchantments were embedded within it, and Neville hadn't cast any spells himself, Dylan couldn't stop the broomstick's magic.

Before he could think further, Neville began flying erratically in the air.

Dylan cast two more spells.

"Retardo Motus!"

"Arresto Momentum!"

The two spells took effect.

Neville's movements slowed, and he stopped flailing around.

However, since Dylan hadn't fully mastered these spells, their effects were limited.

Still, they managed to slow Neville's descent, preventing him from crashing to the ground.

Just as Dylan thought the situation was under control, Neville suddenly flipped upside down, hanging from the broomstick.

"Huh? I didn't cast that spell!" Dylan's eyes widened.

"Ahhh!" Neville let out a scream.

His hands slipped from the broomstick, and he began plummeting toward the ground.

"Impedimenta!"

As Dylan cast the spell, a shimmering beam of magic shot from his wand, wrapping around Neville's body.

In an instant, Neville's rapid descent slowed, and he began to float gently downward.

"Wingardium Leviosa!"

Dylan cast the Levitation Charm, taking control of Neville's body and guiding him safely to the ground.

By now, Neville was completely dazed, his face still pale with fear.

His hair was a mess from the wind.

"Merlin's beard!" Harry exclaimed.

Flying class was more dangerous than he'd thought!

Hermione, meanwhile, was wide-eyed—not just at the danger, but at how many spells Dylan had used!

And each one seemed to be cast with remarkable skill!
