Chapter 35: **Chapter 35: Dylan, We Met a Three-Headed Dog!**
Ron scratched his head and was about to speak when Harry suddenly covered his mouth.
"Ahaha, good evening, Dylan… You should, uh, go back to sleep, haha…"
Ron, unable to speak with Harry's hand over his mouth, nodded frantically, bobbing his head like a pecking chicken.
"Let's go, let's get out of here," Harry whispered, pulling Ron along.
The two of them turned around in a panic, stumbling and scrambling as they tried to move quietly, holding their breath to avoid making too much noise.
They lifted their feet gently and set them down slowly, moving as cautiously as two guilty thieves.
Their hands stretched out slightly in front of them, grasping at the air to maintain their balance.
It wasn't until they reached the door that they finally bolted out, though they made sure to carefully close the door behind them.
Before leaving, Ron even mouthed through the crack in the door, "Go back to sleep."
"Are these two… out of their minds?"
Dylan had witnessed the entire scene and couldn't help but feel exasperated.
By now, he wasn't feeling sleepy anymore. The antics of these two clueless idiots had completely wiped away his drowsiness.
"Didn't I already say I wouldn't get involved in this? And yet, they had to wake me up in the middle of the night?"
To be honest, Dylan was a little annoyed.
Of course, this had absolutely nothing to do with his grumpiness after being woken up.
After a moment of silence, he let out a helpless sigh.
"Sigh…"
He glanced down at the little black ball poking its head out from under the covers, its eyes glowing faintly, just like his.
Dylan reached out and gently pinched its tiny head with two fingers.
"They're my friends too. Go after them and help them out if needed."
"Moo!"
The little black ball let out a soft sound.
It knew there were others still sleeping in the dorm.
"Go on. Haven't you made a lot of friends around here anyway?"
Although Dylan had brought the little black ball to the dorm and told it to stay put, he was pretty sure it had snuck out to have some fun.
Because…
Earlier that evening, during his private lesson with Professor McGonagall, she had casually mentioned that a small shadowy creature had been sneaking around the school.
It had even wandered into the Forbidden Forest and mingled with some wild magical creatures.
The real issue was that after returning to Hogwarts, the little creature had somehow made its way into the restricted areas.
It was only when Professor McGonagall happened to pass by that she noticed it.
Since Hagrid had mentioned to her and Dumbledore that Dylan wanted to keep a shadow creature as a pet, she immediately suspected it might be Dylan's.
She had a house-elf take it back to the dorm.
Otherwise, if the little creature had kept wandering around, it might have been caught by Filch.
After hearing Professor McGonagall's account, Dylan realized she was subtly warning him.
What could he say?
He vaguely explained the situation to her, admitting that he was indeed keeping a shadow creature as a pet.
Fortunately, Professor McGonagall didn't press for more details. She simply advised him not to spend too much time on his pet but to take good care of it.
Dylan naturally agreed.
Of course, he didn't blame the little black ball at all.
After all, ever since it had started following him, it had mostly stayed in its pet space.
Now that it finally had a chance to roam freely, why shouldn't it have some fun?
It hadn't bitten off a student's head or caused any real trouble. It had just wandered around a bit, and Dylan didn't see any harm in that.
"Moo…"
The little black ball, which had been proudly holding its head high, suddenly blinked guiltily and shrunk its neck when it heard Dylan's words.
"Go on, but remember to be careful."
Dylan tapped its head with his finger.
"Whoosh!"
The little black ball darted forward.
As it approached the door, its body seemed to blur and phase through the solid wood, disappearing into the hallway.
Dylan lay back down in bed.
Fortunately, he was a deep sleeper.
It didn't take long for him to fall asleep again.
This time, no one disturbed him, and he slept soundly until morning.
Because Harry and Ron had woken him up in the middle of the night, he ended up sleeping in a bit later than usual.
When he checked the time, it was around 6:30 a.m.
He glanced over and saw that Harry and Ron had returned and were still fast asleep.
The little black ball was lazily curled up between his legs.
Dylan shook his head, told the little black ball to stay put in the dorm, and got up to get ready for the day.
He planned to check on his owl, review his potions notes, grab some breakfast, and then head to class.
The little black ball's fur was as smooth as black satin. It twitched its ears and rolled over, nestling deeper into the blankets.
Stepping out into the morning light, Dylan went through his usual routine.
After finishing his morning tasks, he made his way to the Great Hall.
By then, many students had already arrived for breakfast, and a few teachers were seated at the staff table.
"Hey! Dylan, over here!"
As soon as he entered the Great Hall, Dylan spotted Harry and Ron waving enthusiastically from the Gryffindor table.
He walked over and sat down next to Harry.
Ron was practically bursting with excitement.
He leaned in, lowering his voice, and said to Dylan, "You have no idea how crazy last night was!"
Dylan blinked. "Wow, how crazy?"
Ron, not picking up on Dylan's flat tone, grinned smugly.
"You missed out! And that Malfoy—what a jerk! He said he'd duel us, but then he went and tipped off Filch!"
"That's not what you said, Dylan. He didn't tell Professor Snape."
Seeing Ron's triumphant expression, Dylan opened his mouth. "Wow, that's really sneaky of him."
"Right?" Ron scowled at the thought of Malfoy.
Hermione, sitting nearby, facepalmed.
"You idiot! Whether Malfoy told Filch or Snape, he still got the teachers involved. Dylan's warning was spot on!"
Ron blinked, momentarily confused, but he quickly moved on.
"Anyway, Filch chased us all over the place, and Mrs. Norris wouldn't let up either!"
"Luckily, they got distracted by something else—maybe another student—but then we ran into Peeves, and he chased us all the way to the forbidden corridor on the fourth floor!"
"And guess what? We saw a three-headed dog there! It was huge—I swear it could've swallowed me whole!"
Dylan, chewing on a forkful of salad, nodded along, providing the appropriate reactions.
"Oh, that sounds terrifying."
Finally, Ron seemed to catch on.
He looked at Dylan and narrowed his eyes.
"Hey!"
