Chapter 86: Chapter 88: A Better Way to Improve Learning Efficiency
"Failed, huh?"
Twenty minutes after the scores were announced, and with no message from the system, Mukyoku realized the initial test results: his self-designed exam plan was ineffective. At the very least, exams conducted at short intervals didn't work.
With a sigh of regret, Mukyoku scrapped his idea of "daily quizzes and major tests every three days." If these tests didn't yield rewards, they were meaningless. Worse, they'd make the students think he'd lost his mind .
That evening during training, Shisui suddenly app
"Mukyoku-sensei, I think I've mastered Soru!"
With that, Shisui demonstrated the technique twice in quick succession.
After observing him carefully, Mukyoku confirmed it and used his identification skill to double-check. The panel indeed showed that Shisui had reached the beginner level of Soru.
"Good, you've completed the foundational training. Keep practicing to refine it further before moving on to other techniques," Mukyoku nodded, closing the panel.
Next, he planned to teach Shisui a few Fire Release jutsu to increase his offensive repertoire. With Shisui's speed in learning jutsu, Mukyoku was confident he could handle it.
Turning to Obito, Mukyoku decided against teaching him new Fire Release techniques for now. Between Great Fireball and Dragon Flame, Obito already had enough options. More techniques might overwhelm him during battle, causing indecision.
Looking at Might Guy, Mukyoku used his identification skill. Guy still had about 30 proficiency points to go before mastering Soru.
"In that case, it'll take about another week," Mukyoku mused.
He glanced at Guy, then at Obito, who was practicing speed-enhancing techniques. A good idea struck him.
Previously, when Guy and Obito trained together, their agility improved rapidly. Back then, their goal was to hit Hyuga Homon, who could easily
Now, they were essentially working on the same thing: refining their speed. While Obito wasn't training the complete Soru yet, both were enhancing their Shunshin no Jutsu to improve quick movements.
Mukyoku called the two over with a smile.
"Do you feel like your learning efficiency is a bit slow?"
Guy shook his head, feeling it was fine.
But Obito's eyes lit up. Mukyoku wouldn't have asked if he didn't have a solution. Eagerly, he responded, "Yes, Mukyoku-sensei! That speed technique you're teaching us is really hard. Do you have a quicker way to learn it?"
"Indeed, I do," Mukyoku replied. "The question is: do you want it?"
"Of course we do!" Obito's eyes shone with anticipation.
"If it'll help me master Soru faster, I'd like to try it too," Guy admitted, unable to resist the appeal of faster progress.
"Great," Mukyoku said warmly. "First, show me your current maximum speed by running one lap at your fastest pace."
Though puzzled, the two complied, giving it their all.
Mukyoku silently timed them, forming a rough estimate of their speed. Then, he explained, "Alright. You'll compete to see who can break their personal speed limit first. Here are the rules: for every half-second you're slower than your record, you'll do five extra questions. For every half-second you're faster, you'll reduce five questions. The first to finish will have 30 questions deducted. You both start with 40 questions."
He added, "Guy, since your speed is higher, your course will be slightly longer."
Guy had nearly mastered Soru, while Obito hadn't even started the full version. If the courses were identical, Obito wouldn't stand a chance.
"Huh?" Obito was dumbfounded. He hadn't expected Mukyoku's "quick learning method" to be another terrifying regime involving punishments.
The rules brought back memories of the grueling pre-finals combat training, complete with familiar penalties, debt systems, and dreaded installments.
"Mukyoku-sensei, I actually think our current efficiency is pretty good," Obito said nervously, wiping away cold sweat.
Guy nodded in agreement. "I think so too."
"Alright, then," Mukyoku sighed with visible disappointment. "I had hoped you'd enjoy this practical-theoretical combination training. I even prepared next semester's theoretical materials for you. Guess I'll just save them for later."
Hearing this, Obito felt a pang of guilt. He recalled similar situations where his own well-meaning ideas had been dismissed.
"Now that I think about it, Mukyoku-sensei's method is actually great. It improves speed and enhances theoretical knowledge," Obito said, forcing a smile despite his dread.
"Training and solving questions are essential parts of youth!" Guy chimed in, not wanting Mukyoku to feel disheartened. However, tears welled up as he imagined the ordeal ahead.
"Then let's prepare and begin the race," Mukyoku said, his warm smile returning.
Seeing Mukyoku's bright expression, Obito sighed with relief—then cursed himself for speaking up.
"You really couldn't keep quiet, could you? If only you hadn't answered him in the first place," Obito berated himself internally.
With no way out, Obito decided to minimize his
Reaching the finish line first, however, would slash 30 questions in one go, making it the most valuable target.
Obito and Guy locked eyes, their gazes filled with fierce determination. Beyond their thirst for victory lay an undeniable fear of the pending assignments.
Mukyoku mapped out their running courses and positioned himself where they could both hear him clearly.
"Ready... go!" Mukyoku shouted.
The moment the race began, Obito launched himself forward with everything
