Chapter 36 - Pokémon Egg
In the end, Officer Jenny and Petal declined Cyrus’ suggestion. It wasn’t the right time to do so.
Although J was caught, the Pokémon she captured were still unaccounted for. However, they deduced they she must have a place to store these Pokémon, since it would be impossible for her to immediately perform a capture-and-sell process in a short amount of time.
Officer Jenny requested the police under her jurisdiction to interrogate J and her men strictly, discover where they’re storing the Pokémon, and rescue all of them as soon as possible.
If a Pokémon was sold, then the seller must be located to recover the sold Pokémon and arrested.
However, they knew that this would be difficult, and not all Pokémon would be recovered successfully. Besides, what if J and her men don’t speak?
Officer Jenny and her team escorted J and her men to the police station, and Petal followed to assist in investigations. Hong Meiling, on the other hand, went back to the Pokémon Center alone.
Before she left, Cyrus extended and invitation for her to visit his company tomorrow.
Of course, the company is but a front for Team Galactic’s base. He simply wants to win over Meiling to let her join their cause.
And if that didn’t work, perhaps he could ease her into it and make her one of their employees.
Meiling knows of his intentions, though. Even if nobody knew his motives, she knew it very well.
She politely declined Cyrus’ invitation, citing that she had her own things to do, like preparing for the Celestic Town Tournament. She plans on staying at the Pokémon Center overnight and make the journey back to Celestic Town tomorrow morning.
Cyrus was disappointed, but did not push further. He simply asked her to come visit whenever she was free.
About half an hour after Meiling returned to the Pokémon Center, a policeman brought Meiling a surprise.
Although Officer Jenny was busy with her work, she did not forget Meiling’s good deeds. Regardless of how Meiling defeated J and her Pokémon, she was the first person to successfully subdue J, so Officer Jenny thought it was only good to reward her for accomplishing such a feat.
The total bonus is 10,000 yuan, which is the reward given by the Veilstone City government. Generally, Trainers who assist in arresting Pokémon Hunters receive rewards ranging from 2,000 to 5,000 Pokémon Dollars, but considering J’s strength overpowering even the likes of Officer Jenny and Petal, the bonus given was much larger.
Meiling happened to be in the restaurant enjoying her dinner (albeit, the cheapest one on the menu) when the policeman came to give her the reward. Although Cynthia assured that Meiling could use the card however she wanted, it was still somebody else’s money, and she would feel bad doing so. However, with the reward, she immediately got up and personally went to the waitress to order something more luxurious.
She then went over to purchase two-liters worth of Pokémon food from Nurse Joy, and asked for a food bowl and a large bucket. She poured some food out into the bowl, and poured the rest of it into the large bucket.
Then, Meiling summoned Plus, Mine, Cotton, and Heatran, who was just treated by Nurse Joy. Plus, Mine, and Cotton went to share the food in the bowl, while Heatran ate from the large bucket alone.
This was Meiling’s promise to Heatran, serving as its reward after fighting for the entire day.
At first, Meiling was cautious about summoning her Heatran in public, but now, almost all the Trainers would know that a Heatran is running around town, so she didn’t care anymore.
The Pokémon all ate happily together, while Meiling enjoyed her luxurious meal, consisting of steak, prawns, fish, and a heartily seasoned spread of vegetables. This was the best meal she had since entering into this world.
The Pokémon were all happily eating food at the table, while Misuzu was enjoying her luxurious meal at the table.
While they were feasting, several Trainers watched her in the distance, or to be more accurate, watching her Heatran.
After all, it is a Legendary Pokémon. Meiling didn’t mind the attention, so long as they don’t interrupt meal time.
Some Trainers wanted to challenge Meiling, including the Trainers who wanted a revenge match.
Meiling politely declined. The original intention of letting Heatran fight is to lure J out. Now that J was arrested, there is no need to fight, especially since Heatran is now weak from a day’s worth of work.
The Trainers pleaded and asked if they could fight tomorrow, but Meiling shook her head, saying that she would return to Celestic Town tomorrow to compete in the tournament.
“If you want to take revenge on me, you have to go to Celestic and sign up!” she suggested as she smiled.
Hearing this, the Trainers simply nodded and didn’t push any further. If they did push any further, Nurse Joy may intervene, and no Trainer wants a strained relationship with Nurse Joy.
Once Meiling and her Pokémon had enough, they went back to their room to rest.
After she washed up, she leapt straight into bed, allowing Plus, Mine, and Cotton to sleep in the same bed as her. She held Plus in her left hand, Mine in her right, with Cotton resting in the dips of her chest.
Finally, she could rest in a new world, and both Meiling and her Pokémon were content.
Well, except for a certain Legendary Pokémon who was too big to fit into the room and had to be sent back into the Poké Ball.
…
The next day, after having breakfast, Meiling was prepared to leave Veilstone City.
Before she left the Pokémon Center, Officer Jenny rushed over.
“Miss Meiling! Please! Wait a minute!” Officer Jenny shouted to Meiling as she scrambled out of her police car.
Meiling was surprised. Did something happen? Did they need her help?
Although she was confused, Meiling hurriedly walked forward to meet her halfway.
“Officer Jenny! What seems to be the problem?”
“Miss Meiling, this is for you,” Officer Jenny huffed, taking out a Pokémon Egg from her pocket. “Here, and…”
Officer Jenny immediately summarized what had happened – after arresting J and a thorough interrogation with a weak-willed subordinate of J, they were able to locate their base.
Officer Jenny brought out a team and rushed to their base. Additionally, she contacted the Officer Jenny from Hearthome City for backup. With the two police forces surrounding the base, the remaining men within were arrested.
The two Officer Jennies found a large number of Pokémon that was stored inside the base, and they quickly launched a rescue operation.
Despite the operation, it was difficult to return these Pokémon to their original owners. After all, Pokémon can’t speak, and at most, they could only vocalize in their own names.
However, some Pokémon wore nameplates, and to the best of their abilities, the Officer Jennies returned the marked Pokémon to their respective owners.
Officer Jenny was up until one o’ clock dealing with this issue.
One of the wealthier Trainers was delighted, and in order to express his gratitude, he gave Officer Jenny a Pokémon Egg.
After some thought, Officer Jenny thought that this Pokémon Egg should belong to Meiling. After all, without her, they wouldn’t have captured J. Plus, in her view, the 10,000 Pokémon Dollars given by the government was not enough to recognize Meiling’s deeds.
Which is how she ended up here right before Meiling left for Celestic City.
Meiling graciously accepted the egg with no further questions, and toyed with the egg in her hand.
Studying it, she knows that it would be difficult to guess what Pokémon would come out of a Pokémon Egg. Pokémon Eggs have different patterns, but you can’t deduce what Pokémon would hatch from the patterns alone. Meiling’s egg was light blue, so she guessed that it might be a Water-type Pokémon.
