"One of Schicksal's three most wanted criminals appears openly before me and even has the audacity to use my bait," Xia Chen remarked calmly. "Hey, you're taking away my greatest pleasure."
He noticed the nearby bucket filled with numerous fish and crabs. Despite the abundance, Xia Chen showed no signs of happiness.
Siegfried laughed, "I thought you'd tell me to surrender myself to Schicksal."
"Would you have listened if I said that?" Xia Chen asked mildly.
"No."
"Then there you go."
With their own thoughts lingering, both remained silent.
Xia Chen was not unwaveringly loyal to Schicksal; otherwise, he wouldn't have secretly contacted Raven. Naturally, Anti-Entropy had no knowledge of this.
Siegfried's confidence in visiting here stemmed largely from Otto's influence.
If Otto intended to capture Siegfried, he would have acted long ago.
Regarding the Singapore incident earlier, Schicksal's A-Class Valkyrie Fu Hua encountered Siegfried but didn't report his presence, clearly indicating her tacit approval of his actions outside Schicksal.
Thus, taking some time off at Coral Island wasn't unreasonable for him.
Xia Chen also had no intention of apprehending Siegfried, as it would serve no purpose. Otto wouldn't appreciate it, and he'd earn Kiana's disdain—what was there to gain?
Moreover, Siegfried is Dumb Goose's father after all.
Of course, neither Siegfried nor Durandal were aware of this situation at the moment.
"Speak your mind," Xia Chen prompted, unable to maintain his composure fully. He said, "You should know that allowing you to take Kiana away is simply out of the question. Currently, Kiana Kaslana is an A-Class Valkyrie of Schicksal. If she defected with you, the entire Kaslana family would face repercussions due to your actions."
The House of Kaslana consists of more than just a father and daughter duo. In fact, a family with a lineage spanning over five centuries could not possibly have such few members. Within Schicksal's Logistics Division and other Valkyrie Squads, several active members of the Kaslana family contribute their skills.
Siegfried's previous actions had already implicated the House of Kaslana, although no lives were directly harmed, their influence significantly diminished.
For instance, when people mentioned Kiana, they always referred to her as Cecilia's daughter, never mentioning Siegfried.
Clearly, Siegfried was aware of this as well.
Thus, the plan devised by the two doctors did not involve forcefully taking Kiana away, which would only lead to her rejection.
Instead, his task was to help Kiana avoid succumbing to madness during the impending Honkai event at Coral Island.
"Of course, I'm here for retirement," Siegfried smiled. "As a middle-aged man, isn't it normal to seek out a picturesque place to retire?"
"That's true."
Seeing Siegfried unwilling to elaborate, Xia Chen sighed.
Who else could this man's intentions be directed towards, aside from Kiana? It seemed the leak of the Stairway to Galaxy Project occurred earlier than he anticipated.
He hadn't even shared the data with Raven yet.
However, anyone astute enough could likely guess aspects of such a project. Even if they couldn't predict Otto's ultimate goal, they could deduce the significance of the data involved.
As such, even Einstein and Tesla merely wanted Siegfried to take Kiana away, not sabotage the plan.
Sabotaging the plan would be too easy. Chen Jiayu was just an ordinary person, leaving countless opportunities for someone to eliminate him. Xia Chen couldn't act as his constant bodyguard, unable to provide protection at all times.
Yet, nobody attempted it.
This is also why Otto only recently stationed a small Valkyrie squad here, consisting of two or three members. He believed no one would try to disrupt this plan.
"Never mind, enjoy your retirement here. The fishing gear's yours; I'll buy a new set."
Xia Chen had little interest in spending more time with Siegfried.
It wasn't due to any fault of Siegfried himself but rather to avoid raising suspicions.
"Alright, off you go then," Siegfried didn't seem bothered by this dismissal.
However, after Xia Chen left, Siegfried watched his departing figure thoughtfully.
"Siegfried has already seen Kiana."
At Anti-Entropy's Salt Lake Base, Einstein received this information and couldn't help but inform Tesla, "It seems Kiana hasn't suffered any abuse within Schicksal. However, that only raises more suspicions about Otto's intentions. Clearly, Kiana now possesses the power of the Herrscher of the Void."
Tesla pondered, "Is it possible that her control over the power isn't fully stable? Similar to Raiden Mei's situation?"
"Raiden Mei? That reminds me." Einstein furrowed her brow.
After Cocolia orchestrated the Honkai event in Nagazora City, Raiden Mei was recovered by Saint Freya Academy. Subsequently, Anti-Entropy began researching the combat capabilities of Herrschers.
They discovered that a Herrscher's fighting ability wasn't constant but significantly influenced by their state, consciousness, and knowledge reserves.
Even if someone wields a Herrscher's power, inconsistencies are highly likely, akin to the cases of Welt Joyce and Welt Yang.
Of course, with limited data samples, these were merely conjectures.
"For now, our best guess is that by harnessing Coral Island's collapse, Otto aims to have Kiana fully master the Herrscher of the Void's power while preventing another Herrscher from emerging," Einstein paused before continuing, "But Dr. Tesla, did you notice something?"
"If this hypothesis holds true, it would imply that Otto is attempting to control the power of Honkai himself."
Tesla's face paled instantly.
"We've long suspected Otto of withholding information about combating Honkai, with these doubts reaching their peak after the Second Honkai Eruption. It's highly likely he covets the authority wielded by Herrschers." Almost reflexively, she muttered, "That man... That man..."
"He truly could do such a thing."
Both Einstein and Tesla had often scorned Otto's character but never questioned his intellect.
With current mathematical theories, one can express formulas for most unknown substances. As Honkai exists as a form of 'matter,' there's a high probability it too can be represented mathematically.
By identifying common traits among instances of Honkai and pinpointing conditions for creating Herrschers, he could then exploit them...
"But what does he intend to do?" Tesla realized. "If Otto wanted control over the entire world, Schicksal already has enough power to support his ambition. And if he sought to destroy human civilization outright, he would have done so long ago."
"What could be driving him?"
The two doctors weren't afraid of Otto himself but rather their own conjectures.
If Honkai could indeed be harnessed, it meant that Honkai Energy might never disappear entirely—a direct challenge to the founding principles of Anti-Entropy.
"I don't know." Einstein shook her head. "This time, I genuinely hope Cocolia surprises us with something extraordinary."
Regardless of Otto's intentions, they couldn't allow such a threat to humanity to persist unchecked.
"Additionally, we must consider our allies," Einstein paused before continuing, "I need to visit Saint Freya once more. At the very least, this time, I must bring Raiden Mei back to the Salt Lake Base."
