How To Survive A Calamity

Chapter 158: King of The Desert [1]

-Rumble -Rumble!

The whole chamber rumbled as soon as the red gem in Nicodemus's grasp was crushed to shards and the ground tremored.

Alexander supported himself off the ground while coughing. He felt the impact of the shockwave that came from Ceres and Nicodemus's last collision and raised his head.

Xavier wasn't the only one to have snapped back to reason after screaming his lungs out.

Alexander supported himself off the ground, covered in dust, with a pale expression. There were still traces of blood from his bloodshot eyes and on face as he raised his head to stare forward.

There, he could see the unexpected figure of Ceres engaged in a one sided confrontation against Nicodemus who was retreating.

Alexander felt a pang of headache as he tried to recall his last memories and regain his bearing. Just at the same time as the whole chamber trembled like an earthquake was sweeping through the whole place, he caught sight of a familiar figure in his line of vision and heard a voice.

"Something is coming!" Xavier pensively said as he approached with Trise and Chelsea.

All three of them looked pale and exhausted.

They had all been forcefully woken from Nicodemus's strange and sinister influence at the same period, when Ceres suddenly crashed through the ceiling.

Alexander, however, still felt dazed and confused. The scenes he had seen couldn't easily escape his mind, and he could still feel a strange, lingering worm of discomfort wiggle in his mind like a planted seed.

All of a sudden, a thunderous boom exploded through the air and the whole world seemed to tremble.

Ceres immediately halted in her steps, her red eyes flashed with animosity.

"What did you do?"

Nicodemus forced a pale smile without a response.

The next second, a portion of the ground was torn apart around the edges of the chamber, and a humongous body emerged and slithered from underneath.

'Dammit.'

Xavier's expression became darkened.

The ground underneath their feet shook and shattered, large cracks snacking across its torn surface.

Nicodemus erased his pale smile and took a step backwards. As soon as he made the slightest movement, Ceres had already raised her sword to his neck bringing Nicodemus to startling halt.

The young man with hair as pitch black as darkness froze and held up his hands.

His emotionless eyes coldly met Ceres' impassive, and unimpressed gaze in mid air.

"Do you really think you have the leisure to be more concerned about me right now?"

As soon as those words registered a colossus body erupted from.the surface of the ground around the chamber as the walls shook.

Nicodemus revealed another dark smile with his hands still raised and the edge of a blade pressed to his neck.

"Let me introduce you to a friend." He shifted his gaze to Xavier and the others behind.

"Some of you may have already met."

Xavier gritted his teeth as he stared at the colossal monster that had suddenly appeared, towering far and high above.

"The Desert king...!"

The Ruler of Blood Earth emerged from the ground lile an unbelievable mountain suddenly, sending shocks amd tremors throughout the bast chamber!

A gruesome screech reverberated from the Sand Worm, tearing through the air like knives through feeble fabrics. It was like a dominant cry announcing its arrival.

The already collapsing walls shook as result.

Trise took a trembling step backwards, looking up.

"Aw gods, not this again."

Ceres' attention was immediately alerted to the vast presence.

Well... It was hard to miss considering the ground underneath her feet had been shattered and torn apart, sending her soaring through the air.

The same could also be said for Nicodemus as he seized the opportunity to dissolve his body into scattering black mist and immediately flee in the intangible form.

A small frown folded on Ceres' brows as she saw this, unable to quickly do anything but watch the black mist flee like it was a sentient hive through the air.

She touched against the ground lightly as she landed, returning her attention back to the appearance of the Sand Dragon.

Alexander's expression became heavy as he snapped back to reality. Xavier who was watching Nicodemus's last moments of exit became pressured.

"No. No! No! We have to go after him!" He took the first step forward but was immediately dragged back by his collar from behind by Alex.

The next moment, the huge head of the Sand Worm smashed into the ground where he had just been.

Xavier fell to the ground against his backside and blinked.

It was then he realised as he moved his gaze around the periphery of the ruined chamber.

"We're surrounded." Trise said with a hushed voice.

The Sand worm, it's humumgous form had slithered and coiled around the chamber like a python grasping its prey.

It would have been even worse if the Chamber wasn't as high and large as it was, unless the ceiling and wall would have completely crumbled, crushed under the Sand worm's crushing strength.

The ground surged once more as the Sand Worm resurfaced it's cone shaped head. The end of its tail whipped ruthlessy from one side at Ceres, producing a shocking bang as it thundered.

-Boom!

Ceres raised her broadsword and arms at the last second and was sent torpedoing through the chamber at a terrifying speed.

At the same time, Alexander summoned his sword and channeled his Aura

Wearing a fierce expression, he drowned his unsettled emotion, and dashed for the revealed upper body of the sand worm, drawing a severing slash at the colossus monster.

His blade harmlessly bounced against the impenetrable scales of the Sand Worm that was almost completely impervious to physical and magical attacks.

A sharp clang merely resounded from impact without leaving behind a single scratch.

Alexander grimaced.

'Damn!'

Then the chamber trembled once more.

Once again, the Sand Worm was moving again.

Xavier grabbed on to Chelsea, who was out of it ever since a while ago, and held the hilt of his blade tightly.

His mind raced rapidly and his brows furrowed.

The King of the Desert was an enemy he still hadn't thought of a proper plan to go against yet.
