HP: Bad Intentions

Chapter 372: Universal Alignment

Blake had expected Snape's reaction.

If Snape, the Potions Master, examined his potion recipe without any noticeable response, Blake would have doubted his legendary reputation. He grinned slightly as Snape's eyes scanned the parchment.

"Yes, I suddenly had a bit of inspiration last night," Blake began, his tone nonchalant yet calculated. "To capture it, I spent the entire night working on this draft."

"However," he continued, "it's only a theoretical success. Potions demand practical verification. The precise weight of each ingredient still needs confirmation. And for that, I can think of no one better to assist me than you, Professor Snape."

Snape, still clutching the parchment, appeared oblivious to Blake's words. His eyes remained fixed on the recipe, his lips tightly pursed. Blake, ever observant, noticed Snape's shifting expressions: confusion, realization, surprise, and contemplation, all flitting across his usually stoic face. For Blake, it was a rare and entertaining sight.

Snape abruptly walked to his desk, sat down, and pulled out another parchment. He began scribbling furiously, dissecting the formula. Blake, seeing that Snape was engrossed, nonchalantly returned to his seat. He resumed eating the hotpot he had made, occasionally glancing at Snape.

Finally, as Blake contentedly leaned back after his meal, Snape put down his quill. He stared at the parchment on his desk, an expression of disbelief etched onto his face. Without looking up, he asked, "You claim you developed this overnight?"

"Yes," Blake replied honestly.

"Impossible!" Snape snapped, his voice tinged with incredulity. "To produce even one of these neutralizers would require testing at least three hundred combinations. Your formula requires seven—each more complex than the last! Even with relentless experimentation, obtaining all the necessary data could take months or years."

Blake chuckled. "If I had followed conventional methods, you'd be correct. But… sometimes extraordinary luck plays a role."

"Luck?" Snape's eyebrows shot up.

"Yes, Professor," Blake said earnestly. "Initially, I planned to experiment meticulously. But, astonishingly, my first attempt at each neutralizer yielded success."

Snape's eyes narrowed. "You're suggesting that sheer luck guided you to the correct combinations for all seven neutralizers in one night?"

Blake nodded, suppressing a grin. He knew his claim sounded absurd, but it wasn't entirely untrue. The Lucky Potion he'd consumed earlier had ensured his every action led to success. He elaborated, "Sometimes, the universe aligns in one's favour, Professor. Perhaps last night was one such instance for me."

Snape's scepticism lingered, but he chose not to press further. Instead, he refocused on the potion formula. Pointing to one ingredient, he asked, "This component is toxic. Why not use aconite, which has a similar effect but is non-toxic?"

Obviously, Snape was really shocked by the potion formula that Blake brought out. Because even he couldn't understand many parts.

Blake's explanation began. He detailed how specific toxic elements could be neutralized when combined correctly, producing the desired result without harmful side effects.

As Blake spoke, Snape's expression shifted from doubt to astonishment. The young wizard's knowledge was undeniable.

"Sometimes," Blake said, "two poisons can cancel each other out. The resulting compound may be exactly what's needed for the potion."

Snape leaned back, his mind processing this revelation. "I never considered this approach," he admitted, more to himself than to Blake. "To think that such volatile combinations could yield stability with the right proportions…"

The Potions Master's awe was evident. He scrutinized the recipe again, his eyes darting across the parchment. Finally, he murmured, "This… could delay ageing… perhaps even extend life?"

Blake nodded. "Exactly, Professor. While it's not immortality, the potion significantly slows the aging process, effectively lengthening lifespan."

Snape's gaze intensified. "A life-extending potion? Such a discovery could rival even the Philosopher's Stone."

Lifespan, whether in the wizarding world or the Muggle world.

These are things that people attach great importance to.

Why do so many people desire the Philosopher's Stone?

Isn't it because the magic stone can not only bring endless wealth to people, but also make people immortal?

And about this magic potion. Since ancient times, there have been many researchers. The most successful life-extending potion is the elixir made from the magic stone.

As for the rest...

Because there is no magical material like the Philosopher's Stone.

So the effect was not good. Even many people who claim to have made life-extending magic potions are all liars.

Snape, however, couldn't suppress a flicker of envy. This breakthrough, achieved by a teenager, was nothing short of miraculous.

"If this potion succeeds," Snape said slowly, "you'll undoubtedly earn a second-class Order of Merlin. Perhaps even a first-class, if not for your age."

Blake smirked confidently. "The first-class medal is mine, Professor. Age is just a number."

Snape was stunned for a moment, and then he remembered the bedrock background of the young man in front of him...

With Dumbledore and Grindelwald around, even the members of Sir Merlin had to give Blake some respect, so how could they deprive him of his reward?

"It's my fault..." Snape lowered his head speechlessly and looked at the potion formula in his hand again.

"Prepare a paper," Snape instructed, his tone more professional now. "A discovery of this magnitude requires meticulous documentation."

"You've already prepared your paper?" Snape said in surprise. "How do you know I will help you..."

If Blake hadn't planned ahead, of course he wouldn't have prepared the paper in advance.

After all, many potion masters only write papers after all research is completed.

"But if you prepare the paper in advance, the data to be tested in the formula..."

Snape frowned at Blake.

"If those data were written before the potion was actually cooked, wouldn't it be a bit sloppy?"

"It's okay. I'm confident that I won't be wrong. Just verify it." Blake said, "It's okay even if I'm wrong. I can just change the data in the paper..."

Snape was speechless for a while, then he opened the parchment and read...

After a moment, Snape frowned, rerolled the paper and placed it on the table.

...I will publish it for you..." Snape said expressionlessly.

Originally, he thought he could help Blake revise his paper.

I have regained a little bit of my dignity as a professor.

did not expect....…

This paper is so complete that it doesn't need revision at all!

Now he just needs to cook the potion.

Then verify that the data is completely correct and that's it....

"You... make me look superfluous."

Snape said with a straight face.

"I'm a little suspicious. You're not looking for me to help me, but just to show off in front of me..."

Blake couldn't help but touch his nose guiltily.

Good guy, you have guessed this!

Snape sighed.

Blake's potion talent is rare even for Snape!

However, just when he was about to praise Blake again for the first time.

His eyes just glanced at the mess of cups and plates on the table over there.

And the "crucible" that I bought newly and is currently holding the leftover soup base.

Then the corners of Snape's mouth couldn't help but twitch...

"My new crucible..."
