As the new students gathered noisily at the entrance of the Great Hall, a reserved and elegant black-haired boy caught Lys's attention. He looked just like a prince straight out of magical history, a radiant miracle in himself.

But... why did he look so familiar?

Lys racked her brain. Ah, wasn't he the spitting image of that arrogant Gryffindor dog?

During the Sorting Ceremony, Lys paid special attention to the boy.

"Regulus Black." Hmm, as expected, a member of the Black family. Probably his younger brother or something. Thinking about it this way, he didn't seem all that handsome anymore.

"Slytherin!" Oh ho, not Gryffindor. Lys glanced at Narcissa at the head of the table, whose face was clearly filled with pride.

"Reg! Are you a coward?! Why didn't you stand up to that old hag? Did they force you into Slytherin? They're all decrepit lunatics! You should have rebelled like I did!" That was the voice of that arrogant dog.

Lys's gossip radar immediately locked onto the faces of the three Blacks. The boy, with his head bowed, eyes downcast in silent endurance; the furious and outspoken Gryffindor; and Narcissa, who coldly gestured for Sirius to shut up.

Oh, right, she herself was a Black too. Lowering her head and pretending to be invisible, Lys listened as the noble girls across the table chattered about how to attract the attention of certain handsome boys and which families the Dark Lord had chosen to visit this year.

The boy took a seat at the Slytherin table, where Prefect Malfoy patted his shoulder and motioned for him to sit in the adjacent seat. Malfoy then exchanged a glance with Narcissa, silently assuring her that he would look after the boy.

Lys lost interest in the Sorting Ceremony after that, only noticing at the end that Slytherin had the fewest new students. Gryffindor and Hufflepuff had nearly twice as many.

After the Sorting Ceremony, Acting Headmaster Dumbledore clapped his hands and stood up, his purple robe adorned with twinkling stars shimmering under the light.

"Welcome, my dear children, to Hogwarts. Here, we will explore the wonders of magic together and experience the joy of friendship. Please take note: the Quidditch team tryouts will be held in two weeks. If you're interested, please speak to your Head of House for details and registration. Now, may you gain knowledge and friendship this term. Let the feast begin!"

After the feast, they arrived at the entrance to the common room. Following the crowd inside, Lys overheard the prefect announcing, "Does anyone want to challenge the second-year top student this year? What about third-year?" A fifth-year student stepped forward to challenge the top student of his year but was defeated in a single move when a summoned snake coiled around his ankle, forcing him to concede.

When the snake appeared, Lys felt Gaboon shift slightly on her shoulder.

After dismissing everyone to their dormitories, the female prefect tossed a casual remark at Lys, "Your dorm has been moved. Don't get lost," before heading off to oversee the first-years' competition for their top spot.

Lys was a bit surprised, as she hadn't heard anything about switching dormitories at the start of the term. But seeing that Greengrass had entered their previous dorm with a mocking smirk, Lys guessed she had finally carried out her oft-repeated plan to kick out the "uncivilized" one.

Lys pushed open the door to her new dorm, located at the outermost corridor. Inside, there was only a single bed, a wardrobe, and a desk, meaning she would now be living alone.

Due to its location at the corner, the dorm was polygonal in shape, and the bathroom was much smaller. Apart from a toilet, there was only a tiny shower area.

The lack of a bathtub left Lys a bit disappointed, but it wasn't a big deal. The room, though small, was hers alone, which meant she could fill the shelves with books and let Gaboon roam freely at night without needing to stay in its cage. That was good enough.

As she unpacked, Lys placed the two bottles of dental-strengthening potion and a bottle of magical stabilizer from Snape by her pillow. She liked the scent of these potions. As for the vial of dittany essence, since its spilled color was impossible to remove, she left it on the desk instead.

While Lys was organizing her belongings, Gaboon slithered down from the bed and began inspecting its territory, occasionally sending signals to Lys.

Not knowing what Gaboon wanted, Lys—still brushing her teeth—placed some meat strips and a water bowl nearby. If it was a matter of temperature, she could only cuddle it at night. The dorm, located beneath the lake, was damp and cold, something she couldn't fix.

The moment she took the toothbrush out of her mouth, Lys finally remembered what she had forgotten.

Her wand! She had come to school without her wand!
