Soon, September 19th arrived.
That morning, Hermione was awakened by her dormmates.
"Happy birthday, dear Hermione!" Lavender pounced on Hermione's bed and embraced the sleeping girl, expressing birthday wishes in an overly sweet voice.
The confused girl woke from her sweet dream only to find Lavender clinging to her like a sloth, gazing at her affectionately while her hands and feet wandered mischievously. Hermione immediately let out a shriek.
"Hehe, you can't escape from us!" Lavender ignored Hermione's struggles and buried her face in Hermione's chest, taking a deep breath like someone cuddling a cat.
Fluffy Hermione was indeed so comfortable to hug! So adorable!
Parvati and the other roommates exchanged knowing glances and smiled before joining the pile. Hermione, like a lamb trapped in a wolf den, was tightly embraced by them all as she screamed loudly.
Help! I'm being attacked by girls!
"Happy birthday, Hermione!"
Crookshanks, perched at the head of the bed, watched its owner with amusement before lying down to continue enjoying the show.
Haha, serves you right! The cat tormentor finally gets tormented!
...
After the girls' roughhousing ended, Hermione finally had time to check her birthday presents. Her face was flushed, and her pink pajamas had slipped to one side, revealing a smooth shoulder. She shot an embarrassed glare at her dormmates.
The gifts from her parents, uncles, and aunts had arrived as expected, along with presents from Professors Dumbledore, McGonagall, and Snape. Of course, there were also gifts from her dormmates.
As for Glenn's gift... they had a tradition of exchanging birthday presents in person.
Carrying her gift for Glenn, Hermione met him in the Great Hall where he was waiting to have breakfast together.
"Good morning! Happy birthday, Glenn!" The girl cheerfully greeted him, plopping down beside him.
"Happy birthday, Hermione," Glenn nodded, moving the prepared breakfast in front of her.
"Your eyes..." Hermione asked expectantly.
Glenn nodded affirmatively, and Hermione eagerly pulled down the black silk covering his eyes.
Glenn opened his eyes.
His deep, abyss-like black eyes had finally regained their luster after that incident, seeming to possess an additional mysterious quality compared to before.
He blinked and smiled, the expression completely natural.
At last, he could truly see again the girl who had stood by him unfailingly during his two years of blindness.
"Hello, Hermione."
The young girl's eyes immediately welled up with tears.
No one knew how much she had feared that something might go wrong with Glenn's eyes, that he might become permanently blind and never see the world again through his own eyes.
Now, seeing Glenn's definitive recovery, her long-suspended worry finally lifted.
She tried hard to hold back her emotional tears, wiping her eyes before breaking into a smile.
"Welcome back, Glenn."
...
Being a rest day, they had plenty of time to celebrate their birthdays together.
Glenn had wrapped the black silk back around his eyes, covering them again. He could feel that even though his eyes could see again, this alchemical creation of Nicolas Flamel could still nurture and strengthen his eyes using his own magical power. He decided to keep wearing it until he truly mastered the power of the Obscurus, just to prevent any accidents.
After breakfast, he took Hermione to the Room of Requirement, saying he wanted to give her birthday present.
Hermione suddenly became nervous and self-conscious - wasn't this the same room where she and Glenn had lived together for a year? What was he planning by bringing her here?!
I'm not ready yet!
That kind of thing... should at least wait until we're officially boyfriend and girlfriend!
Hermione lay on the bed, covering her blushing face and rolling around until Glenn came over with the gift box and tapped her arm curiously.
"Did you stay up late last night?" he asked with curiosity. The young girl seemed quite odd - perhaps she hadn't slept well due to excitement about her birthday?
Handing the gift box to Hermione, he explained, "I just finished making this gift. I've been working on it here. Take a look."
"Oh."
"What's wrong? You seem a bit unhappy?" Glenn asked puzzled, leaning closer to Hermione.
With mixed feelings, Hermione used her little foot to push away Glenn's approaching face, then took the gift and opened the box.
Inside lay an exquisite amulet with both Hermione and Glenn's names embroidered on it.
"Remember the amulet you gave me before? I used alchemy to make one as a birthday gift for you." He said sincerely, pulling out from his chest the amulet Hermione had given him two years ago on his birthday, which he had never casually removed.
"Using alchemy, I turned it into a magical device with a permanent one cubic meter space under an undetectable extension charm, plus two spell-release mechanisms that can be activated with magical power. When fully charged, each can cast three Auror-level Shield Charms and Disillusionment Charms." Glenn explained. He had spent considerable effort these past days imbuing these features and constructing the spell-release mechanisms.
Hermione couldn't stop examining this genuine protective amulet, beaming with joy. She was also delighted to see that Glenn had been wearing the amulet she gave him two years ago all this time.
Following Glenn's example of wearing her amulet, Hermione carefully placed this birthday gift in the small pouch near her chest.
"Thank you! I love it."
After expressing her satisfaction, Hermione shyly brought out her gift for Glenn from behind her back, feeling that her present seemed quite ordinary compared to what he had given her.
Glenn opened the box to find an adorable Q-version doll that looked just like Hermione.
Holy cow, this is so damn cute! Glenn exclaimed inwardly.
It had the same fluffy brown curly hair, cute face smiling at him, and the chibi proportions made the gift even more perfect.
"Did you make this yourself?" Glenn asked, hugging it.
"Yes, yes... is it not good?" Hermione worried. What if Glenn didn't like it?!
"Not at all, she's very cute. I love it," Glenn smiled appreciatively.
The young girl smiled, her face brightening beautifully.
"Just like you," Glenn added.
The girl's smile froze as her face slowly turned red.
"Ugh, what are you saying! You're terrible!" She kicked at Glenn playfully with her small feet.
Glenn didn't mind, catching her foot and pulling her close amid her surprised yelp, holding her just like the doll she had given him.
The shy girl found herself face to face with the calm boy as he held her, both speechless for a moment before breaking into simultaneous laughter.
"Happy birthday."
After exchanging gifts, they tacitly avoided mentioning studies or other matters. Away from everyone's eyes, on this leisurely birthday, they took a complete tour inside and outside Hogwarts castle, fulfilling the young girl's wish to properly appreciate Hogwarts' architecture and scenery.
It was a joyful birthday, one that belonged solely to the two of them.
