To ensure Draco's defeat was convincing, Hermione deliberately avoided using spells beyond the first-year curriculum. Every spell she used in the duel was one that young wizards could learn from their first-year textbooks.
Hermione had long since mastered these simple spells to perfection. Combined with her occasional exchanges and practical simulations with Glen, her combat thinking could be said to far surpass her peers. This gradually formed her unique fighting style: through precise calculations, meticulous operations, and the utilization and transformation of external objects to control and suppress the opponent.
This fighting style unique to her was something even Glen couldn't replicate; it was Hermione's exclusive talent.
Glen had acknowledged and praised the little girl's combat method many times. Due to Hermione's familiarity with his fighting style, he had fallen into her carefully designed traps several times during their practical training sessions, being controlled in his actions.
Although Glen didn't use enhancement magic when training with Hermione, even so, Hermione was more than capable of overpowering most wizards at Hogwarts. The only things she lacked now were magical power reserves and the study of advanced magic.
In the days that followed, Hermione remained in high spirits. She had long disliked that Malfoy, and now that she had taught him a lesson, Draco hadn't come to Gryffindor to cause trouble for a long time.
This also improved Glen's mood considerably. When he entered the Forbidden Forest late at night to slaughter Acromantulas, his fighting style wasn't as cruel as before. At least the bodies of those Acromantulas were more intact before they died than before.
Well, even the evil smile Glen unconsciously revealed while slaughtering had softened a bit, which reduced the fear the giant spiders felt. At the same time, his work of extracting venom from the Acromantulas' bodies became much easier.
Acromantulas: But what's the use of that?!
R.I.P.
May there be no daggers in heaven.
...
The happy days passed quickly, and Glen and Hermione enjoyed over a month of peace and quiet...
...until Halloween.
On Halloween at Hogwarts, the entire castle was filled with the aroma of roasted pumpkins. Overnight, the castle's decorations had transformed into a Halloween-themed setup. Pumpkin lanterns, monster models, and even, well, real ghosts led by Nearly Headless Nick roamed the castle cheerfully, much more active than usual.
Of course, the young wizards were quite scared. Every time they encountered a fork in the road, whether to turn or not became a difficult question. No one knew what terrifying scene might be around the corner.
Of course, horror is part of Halloween, and everyone still enjoyed the festive atmosphere...
Right?
Well, it was a Halloween of both joy and fright. Fortunately, no one was sent to the infirmary due to shock.
Because the friends walking with the frightened young wizards who fainted also collapsed stiffly on the ground, no one discovered them.
Just kidding.
However, apart from the Halloween feast, what made all the young wizards happy was that Professor Flitwick, who was in charge of Charms class, finally allowed them to try casting the Levitation Charm. Ever since he had made Neville's pet toad Trevor fly around the classroom last time, the young wizards had been envying this charm for a long time.
Among them, Draco's anticipation was particularly great. He hadn't forgotten that during the duel with Hermione, the little girl had used this trick to interrupt his spellcasting.
Wait, come to think of it, the spells she used before were all ones we would learn later, isn't that too advanced?
Is this what it means to be a top student?!
Draco's body shuddered, and he immediately paid more attention to Professor Flitwick's explanation of the precautions for casting the Levitation Charm.
He wouldn't easily give up because of setbacks. He wanted to prove during this time that the talent brought by pure blood was far superior to that of Muggle-borns!
However, he didn't realize that his concept had already unconsciously changed under the influence of Glen and Hermione, even if only a little.
Professor Flitwick paired the young wizards into groups of two based on their proximity. He looked at Glen and Hermione, smiling slightly at them. He had recently come to like these two exceptionally talented young wizards very much. Although they weren't Ravenclaw wizards, their attitude towards the pursuit of knowledge was no less than those little eagles.
"Hermione, you'll be with Glen," he decisively paired the two together, receiving a sweet smile from the little girl. "Alright, Professor."
However, given their skill level, they had long since mastered the Levitation Charm. Both tacitly took out "Standard Book of Spells, Grade 2" and began studying next year's content in advance, quietly discussing while pretending to talk about the key points of the Levitation Charm.
Seeing the two pretending, Draco's mouth twitched. He already knew about Hermione, who was undoubtedly proficient in using the Levitation Charm, but Glen had never cast magic in public before. However, he didn't believe that Glen couldn't even perform the Levitation Charm.
Shaking his head, he focused his attention again on the slightly wobbling feather in front of him.
He felt he was about to master this spell!
Undeniably, Draco's magical talent was indeed very good.
"Wingardium Leviosa!!" Ron, sitting in front of Glen, shouted the Levitation Charm incantation, waving his hands like a big windmill, seemingly having completely forgotten the content Professor Flitwick had explained during class.
Hermione, who had already given up on persuading Ron to behave better in class and not lose so many points, frowned slightly. She couldn't stand it anymore; she hated being disturbed when she was studying seriously.
Not to mention being so loud. The people around them failed in their Levitation Charms once again due to the noise, including Draco.
Damn it, I was so close!
Draco watched in frustration as the feather in front of him, which was about to leave the desktop, fell back down. He was utterly dejected.
Damn Weasley!!
"Stop it, do you think you can blow the feather up with your arms? You're saying the spell wrong, not to mention your gesture. It's Wing-gar-dium Levi-o-sa, make the 'gar' nice and long," Hermione reminded him bluntly in a low voice. Many people's attention had already been drawn to Ron.
Ron's neck immediately turned red. This girl, when did she become so sharp-tongued? He even saw a hint of Snape in her. But to maintain his own face, he shouted at Hermione angrily.
"Oh, really! Since you're so clever, why don't you try it then?" He slammed the table, attracting everyone's attention.
Draco, who was angry nearby, couldn't hold it in anymore. His anger dissipated, and he burst out laughing with a "pfft" and a "gah".
He gloated.
This Weasley fool was really asking for it. Now he had another reason to mock him after class!
Hermione also got angry. She had kindly taught this idiot how to correctly cast the Levitation Charm, and he actually yelled at her. She didn't indulge him anymore and swiftly waved her wand.
"Wingardium Leviosa." With a swift flick and swish of her wand, the feather in front of Hermione gently floated up, hovering above people's heads. The incantation, the wand movement, the spellcasting, everything seemed so natural.
"Oh, very well done, Miss Granger! I dare say, I couldn't have performed such a smooth Levitation Charm in my first year. For this, I must award Gryffindor ten points!"
All the young Gryffindor witches present applauded sincerely. This was their little Hermione!
Now, almost all the first-year witches were unabashed Hermione fans.
Ron's face turned extremely sour, and he turned his head to lie on the desk without saying a word.
Hermione didn't bother to kick him while he was down. She smiled and bowed slightly to everyone in thanks, then sat back down to continue researching the content that had been interrupted earlier with Glen.
Class ended soon after. The two packed up their things and walked out side by side.
As they passed by Harry and Ron's group, Glen heard Ron badmouthing Hermione.
"No wonder everyone can't stand her. Honestly, she's a nightmare," Ron said, struggling to squeeze through the crowd while bitterly cursing the little girl who had embarrassed him. The small group around him echoed his sentiments, all boys who had been criticized by Hermione before.
Obviously, Hermione had heard it too.
Her mood, which had just calmed down, was ruined again. It was truly a case of biting the hand that feeds you. Hermione angrily pushed through their group, walking towards the front without a word.
She didn't want to see these stupid boys anymore.
Harry said uneasily, "I think she heard what you said."
Ron was slightly uneasy at first, but then remembering the embarrassment in class, he became stubborn again. "So what? She must have noticed she doesn't have any friends!"
Glen smiled, a smile so cold that the good mood he had maintained for days was now completely ruined.
At this moment, Neville finally couldn't hold back anymore. He mustered up his courage and defended Hermione: "How can you say that about Hermione? She's not friendless. Glen, and me, we're her friends."
Ron and the others looked very shocked, seemingly having never thought that Neville would speak up for Hermione.
Glen's smile softened, his expression returning to calm. He decided then and there that Neville was a friend worth keeping.
Without stopping, Glen walked through the crowd, leaning on his cane, and patted the young man's shoulder to show his approval. Neville was pleasantly surprised.
Turning to face Ron's group, Glen emitted a hint of malice.
A feeling of trepidation prompted the chattering boys opposite to shut their mouths.
Glen said coldly, "You need to apologize to Hermione." Without waiting for their reaction, he continued, "But today you must pay the price for your words."
"Relashio," Glen cast the Revulsion Jinx. Harry watched in horror as his companions' bodies went limp, unable to exert any strength, collapsing one after another into a heap.
They wanted to make a sound but couldn't utter half a word.
Harry was grateful that he hadn't echoed Ron's words earlier, otherwise he would have been lying there with them.
Glen calmly leaned on his cane and walked quickly forward to comfort the angry little girl.
Draco's trio saw the comical scene before them and laughed raucously.
"Look at yourself now, Weasley, it's quite amusing," he mocked Ron specifically, ignoring the other young wizards who had been hit by the Revulsion Jinx, then strode away.
The young witches behind them showed no intention of helping them. Are you kidding? Where did these boys get the nerve to insult our Hermione? Huh?
They walked past the collapsed boys, pretending not to see them, and went back to their dormitory.
Hermione had her little boyfriend accompanying her, so they didn't want to be third wheels.
In the end, only Harry and Neville were left standing in the corridor, looking at each other helplessly. With a bitter smile, they quickly went to call a professor to come and help remove the jinx.
