In the end, Glenn agreed to Draco's request. The reason? None other than Severus Snape, who had been eavesdropping on their conversation. After hearing the group's discussion, Snape intervened. He called Glenn aside and said one thing:
"Lucius Malfoy, Draco's father, was once a Death Eater. However, he maintains a neutral stance and his position is unstable."
Speaking of Death Eaters, Glenn had long known that his Head of House, Snape, was also a former Death Eater. He had once accidentally glimpsed the Dark Mark on Snape's arm and directly asked him about its meaning.
Snape had simply replied indifferently, "I used to be a Death Eater." Glenn didn't press further after that.
Since Snape could be trusted by Dumbledore, he could be trusted—at least to some extent. Moreover, after spending the past few years with him, Glenn was certain that while Snape might not be a good person, he was far from being the kind of repulsive scum that Death Eaters represented.
Most importantly, Snape had never shown any malice toward Glenn or Hermione. That was something Voldemort and his Death Eaters, who despised Muggles, could never achieve.
On the contrary, over the past two and a half years, Snape had taken good care of the two of them. Though his words remained sharp, his actions showed genuine concern.
A person who hides kindness for his own people while showing hostility to the outside world—how could Glenn hate or doubt someone like that?
Personal experience often outweighs external reputation.
Glenn had a principle: he never doubted those he considered his own.
Back to the matter at hand. Upon learning that Draco's father was a wavering Death Eater, Glenn began to ponder. In the end, he decided to bring Draco into his camp.
And so, he made Draco swear an Unbreakable Vow.
The vow stated that Draco would never join Voldemort's side and would never betray Glenn, Hermione, or the others. Hermione served as the witness.
Yes, it was a one-sided restriction.
This was essentially stealing Lucius Malfoy's heir. Glenn planned to use the son to influence the father. Pureblood families typically valued their heirs deeply, and Draco was the only child of the Malfoy family.
Of course, there was always the possibility that Lucius Malfoy might consider his "main account" ruined and decide to "level up a new one." Glenn didn't know Lucius well enough yet and would have to observe him over time.
At the mention of Voldemort, Draco's face turned pale. He had once admired the Dark Lord, but now he realized Glenn seemed to harbor strong hostility toward Voldemort!
Draco hesitated. He genuinely wanted to become stronger—not just because of Glenn's influence. His proud heart had always yearned for strength.
But should he sign such an unequal contract?
As his hesitation dragged on, Draco noticed the timid look in Neville's eyes had vanished, replaced by a fierce determination. Hermione, who had been lounging on the sofa, sat up straight, her gaze growing more dangerous. And Glenn? He was the most direct—his right sleeve flicked, and a dagger gleaming with cold light appeared.
"I agree! I agree! I agree!" Draco's smile was more of a grimace.
The vow was made. Breaking it meant death.
Snape, standing nearby, twitched at the corner of his mouth as he watched Draco bind himself to an entirely one-sided Unbreakable Vow.
Draco felt like he had boarded a pirate ship.
Glenn revealed his dagger. "Pirate ship?"
Draco was startled. "No, no, no!"
A moment later, Glenn led Neville and Draco to the door of Snape's office.
"I've agreed to let you train under me, but that doesn't mean you're ready for my training. You must first master a few spells," Glenn said seriously to the two.
"These are Hermione's notes on the techniques and methods for casting these spells. Take them back and study them for a week. Find a way to learn them." Glenn pulled some notes from his pouch.
"Duplicato!" He cast a duplication spell on several pages of notes and handed them to Neville and Draco.
Both received copies of Hermione's notes.
"Expelliarmus, Protego, Leg-Locker Curse, Incendio... So many? And we have to learn them all in a week?" Draco exclaimed in disbelief. Neville looked equally dismayed, as if he had swallowed a fly.
This was too much! How could they possibly learn all this?
"If you want to survive the test I've prepared for you in a week, you'd better master as much as you can. Only those who pass will receive further training," Glenn said coldly. "Pass, and you join. Fail, and you die. Prepare yourselves, rest well, and think it through before coming back. Now, return to your dormitories."
Glenn watched as the two turned pale.
He allowed them to join partly because he valued their potential. If they proved him wrong in the coming week, he wouldn't hesitate to abandon them.
Just like in his previous life's assassin training, tools deemed useless were discarded.
His training was no joke.
The lion and snake before him shivered, feeling as if they had fallen into an abyss.
A pirate ship! This was definitely a pirate ship.
Neville composed himself, his expression growing resolute as he turned and headed toward his dormitory.
Time to study!
Draco, initially hesitant, was spurred by Neville's determined back. If Longbottom could do it, why couldn't he?
Impossible! Absolutely impossible!
Draco gritted his teeth. Damn it! No sleep tonight! Draco Malfoy was officially cramming!
Ignoring the inner turmoil of the lion and snake, Glenn returned to Snape's office. He hadn't told Hermione about his nightly activities, so he had gone out to speak with the two alone.
Though the discussion was brief, it was already past Hermione's usual bedtime. She had curled up on the sofa and fallen asleep.
Glenn cast a calming charm on her, conjured a handkerchief with Aguamenti, and gently wiped her face before carefully picking her up.
"Professor, I'll take Hermione back now," Glenn said to Snape, who waved him off without a word.
Such a tsundere.
Carrying Hermione, Glenn walked to the entrance of the Gryffindor dormitory on the eighth floor. He recited the password Hermione had given him: "Courage." The portrait of the Fat Lady, already asleep, swung open to reveal the entrance.
Entering the common room, Glenn cast a powerful Confundus Charm on himself and carried Hermione up the stairs to the girls' dormitory.
Hogwarts' girls' dormitories were enchanted with protective magic. If a boy tried to enter, the magic would repel him. However, Glenn had discovered that a Confundus Charm, which alters perception, could bypass this magic.
As someone with an exceptionally resilient soul, Glenn was adept at soul-related magic. The Confundus Charm, being the simplest of such spells, was something he had mastered to the point of fooling the protective magic.
Don't ask how he knew. He'd accompanied Hermione here several times before.
And don't ask why. It was always for situations like this—when Hermione fell asleep past her bedtime, Glenn had to bring her back himself.
Without lingering, Glenn carried the girl to her dormitory and gently knocked on the door.
"Hermione, you're finally—ah..." Parvati opened the door, only to freeze. She didn't recall a petite girl like this in their house.
Looking closer, she realized the figure holding Hermione looked increasingly familiar...
Wasn't this the little Slytherin snake always by Hermione's side?!
How did he get into the girls' dormitory?!
Just as she was about to scream, she found herself unable to make a sound.
Silencio. A spell meant to silence enemy wizards was now used by Glenn on Parvati.
Carefully leaning the sleeping Hermione against Parvati, Glenn pulled several potions from his pouch and handed them over.
"I mean no offense. Hermione fell asleep, and I only brought her back. These potions are my apology for intruding. Sorry for scaring you." With his cane in hand, Glenn stood before her, unbothered by the shame of being caught in the girls' dormitory.
"I'll leave Hermione in your care. I'll take my leave now." Without waiting for Parvati's response, Glenn turned and walked toward the common room, leaving the girl stunned at the door.
"Parvati, is Hermione back?" Lavender asked groggily, sitting up in bed. She saw the girl helping another sleepy girl toward a bed.
"How did she manage to come back while asleep?" Lavender, still half-asleep, couldn't make sense of it.
"Someone brought her back," Parvati replied, tucking Hermione in.
"Who? Professor McGonagall?" Lavender, now awake, got up for a drink of water.
"Glenn. That Slytherin snake."
"Spit-take!"
"Who?" Lavender was instantly alert, all traces of sleep gone, her excitement rising.
Seeing no response from Parvati, she realized she hadn't misheard.
"Oh my god! Hermione!" she giggled. Parvati handed her a potion.
"Glenn gave us these as compensation for the fright. We'll ask Hermione what they are tomorrow. Let's sleep for now; everyone else is already asleep."
"Fine." The lights went out.
A moment later.
"Parvati~"
"What?"
"I suddenly really want to fall in love~"
"...Don't you always?"
"Aw, don't tease me~"
...
Glenn wasn't worried about the girls' dormitory. Hermione would be well cared for by her friends.
As for Glenn, he likely wouldn't sleep tonight. He needed to make a set of sturdy tactical gear for Neville and Draco.
Though his words had been harsh, he couldn't let the two actually die. Necessary protection had to be arranged.
"Such a hassle. Don't let me down," Glenn muttered. This was his first time formally training subordinates in this life, and he took it seriously. He was too weak to act independently now. Being alone meant being cautious and constrained, and that was the downside of being weak.
His thoughts turned to Lucius Malfoy.
"A fence-sitter among the Death Eaters, huh?" He fell into contemplation.
...
A week passed amidst Hermione's friends' relentless teasing.
It was now 11:30 p.m.
