Chapter 155: Chapter 155: Ultron
[Third Person's PoV]
"Stark" Steve called out
"Jarvis?" Tony Sr called out as well.
Everyone was watching with an intrigued but uneasy expression.
The robot turned slowly side to side, his gears creaking, "Sorry, I was asleep… Or was I a-dream?"
Tony Sr. pulled out a small pad and began tapping on it as he said, "It looks like I'll have to reboot the Legion, there appears to be a bug…"
The robot lowered his head and swatted his hands above, "There was this terrible noise… And I was tangled in… Strings" The robot walked back slightly with a sway as if drunk before lifting its arms up showing the wires dangling from his frame, "I had to kill the other guy, he was a good guy."
"You killed someone?" Steve asked with a frown, his brows furrowing with concern.
It tilted it's head up as it said, "It wouldn't have been my first call, but in the real world we're face with ugly choices"
"Who sent you?" Thor asked
It then made a sound as if a tape was being rewound and Tony Sr's voice was heard coming from it, "I see a suit of Armor around the world…"
Melissa turned to look at her Tony with wide eyes slightly and a faint smile before focusing back at the magic in front of them.
"Ultron" Bruce called out realizing who they were talking to.
"In the flesh" Ultron responded, "Or no, not yet. Not in this chrysalis" It said looking down and around it's broken and batter form.
Maria Hill looked around slightly, secretly pulled out her gun and silently clocked it back while Ultron continued talking.
"But I'm ready, I'm on a mission" Ultron declared, sounding almost proud.
"What mission?" Maria inquired as she stood up from where she sat.
"Peace in our time..." Ultron declared ominously, just as the glass behind him shattered. From the wreckage, a few damaged Iron Legion units flew out, charging toward the Avengers.
Everyone sprang into action. Steve kicked his shield off the ground, catching it deftly in his hand, while Melissa hurled Thor's hammer back to him. As Thor caught it, her appearance reverted to normal.
Tony's repulsors lit up, blasting one of the Iron Legion units out of the air. Steve leapt over another, smashing it with his shield and splitting it in two.
Maria took aim, firing at the robots with her sidearm while dodging their attacks. Thor caught a flying unit with one hand and hurled it against a wall before smashing it with his hammer, reducing it to pieces.
Another Iron Legion unit, fully operational, hovered in the air, firing repulsor blasts indiscriminately. Glass shattered and rained down as the team moved to avoid its attacks.
Melissa leapt onto the flying unit, wrapping her arms around its head. The Iron Legion attempted to slam her into a wall by boosting backward, but Melissa planted her feet firmly, using her enhanced strength to rip its head clean off. The unit fell, and Melissa flipped down gracefully, brushing her hair out of her face.
Tony leapt into the fray, forming a sword from his symbiote. With a clean strike, he cut the last unit in half before retracting the blade back into his suit.
"Now you're just being dramatic," Ultron said, sounding unimpressed.
Tony shrugged. "I live for the drama. It's what makes life interesting."
Ultron stepped forward, picking up the shattered remains of an Iron Legion unit Steve had destroyed. "You people want to protect the world but don't want it to change. How is humanity saved if it's not allowed to... evolve?"
Ultron crushed the head of the broken armor in his hand. "There's only one path to peace," he said, tossing the remains aside. "The Avengers' extinction."
Thor hurled Mjolnir at Ultron, shattering his body and sending pieces flying. As Mjolnir returned to his hand, the only thing left of Ultron was part of his head.
"I had strings," Ultron said ominously as his glowing blue eyes flickered and dimmed, "but now I'm free." The head shut down completely.
"Well, that sure wasn't ominous," Tony quipped, placing a hand on his hip. Seeing the tension in the room, he raised his other hand and gave himself a high five. "Hell yeah!"
Steve's expression turned serious. "I'm going to have to ask you to go home. Things have gotten dangerous, and this isn't a place for children."
"Ha!" Tony laughed. "Good one! You think I'm just going to walk away after all this? Yeah, no. I'm absolutely staying."
Tony Sr. sighed, caught between tension and amusement.
Melissa crossed her arms. "We're kind of geniuses, you know. This is our area—robots and cybernetics. Plus, we've trained for situations like this. Heroes in training and all."
Thor nodded. "She has proven herself worthy. I see no reason they should leave."
Natasha added, "The girl's got moves. Did you see her rip that robot's head clean off?" She slung an arm around Melissa's shoulders, smiling briefly. Something about Melissa reminded her of her younger sister—maybe the way she fought, or perhaps the blonde hair. She wanted her to stick around.
"But, Nat, you know better than anyone why kids shouldn't be fighting," Clint argued with a sigh.
Steve looked around. "Alright, let's vote. Those in favor of sending them home, raise your hand."
Steve, Clint, and Bruce raised their hands.
"And those against?"
Tony Sr., Natasha, and Thor raised theirs.
Steve sighed, placing a hand on his hip. "It seems we're at an impasse."
Tony raised his hand. "Can I plead our case, your honor?"
Steve smirked slightly and nodded.
Tony stepped forward dramatically. "Ladies and gentlemen of the jury! I ask you: What are you? Heroes. You inspire people to fight alongside you. And here we are, standing in the aftermath of an Ultron nightmare. The world needs every capable hand it can get. Sure, you might think Melissa and I are just kids, but we're more than our good looks—we're inventors, strategists, fighters. We've trained for this. And Captain," Tony turned to Steve, "your big-brother energy is admirable. But pushing us away doesn't keep us safe; it keeps us unprepared. Send us home, and we'll still find a way to help. That's what heroes do. We don't run from the fight. We run to it."
"..."
Melissa sighed, rubbing her forehead. Natasha smiled wearily. "How long have you had to deal with him?"
"Since forever," Melissa muttered.
Melissa then raised her hand. "If I may add to Tony's nonsense—he and I have dealt with more dangerous situations. We once safeguarded the President of the United States while there was a billion-dollar bounty on his head. We've got the experience and the skills."
"Seriously?" Steve asked, rubbing his chin. Their confident expressions made him believe them. With a sigh, he relented. "Alright. But you follow our orders and don't act on your own. Are we clear?"
Tony saluted. "Sir, yes, sir!"
Steve groaned. "I'm going to regret this, aren't I?"
