Chapter 9: CH 9

Zod's Question: The Source of Magic

Zod, now immersed in his studies at Kamar-Taj, found himself pondering a question that even the most accomplished sorcerers had never dared to ask.

Ancient texts spoke of Nabu, the Lords of Order, and the Spectre, powerful beings who provided their followers with seemingly limitless magical energy. However, Zod wondered:

"If these beings continuously share their power, where does their magic come from? It cannot be infinite, can it?"

The more he thought about it, the more he realized that understanding this question might hold the key to breaking past his own limitations.

The next day, during his lesson with Nabu, Zod posed his question:

"Master Nabu, I know that the source of all sorcerers' power comes from higher beings like the Lords of Order or the Spectre. But their power can't be infinite. For ages, they've shared their energy with their followers. Where does their magic come from?"

Nabu's Surprising Response

For the first time since Zod began his studies, he saw a flicker of surprise cross Nabu's calm and composed face. The ancient sorcerer didn't answer immediately, instead pausing to contemplate the weight of the question.

After a long silence, Nabu finally spoke.

"To be honest, I've never considered this question before," Nabu admitted. "For countless generations, we have relied on the power granted to us by the Lords of Order and other cosmic beings. We accepted their blessings as absolute truths."

"But," Nabu continued, "I can offer you a path to explore. While I cannot give you a definitive answer, perhaps you can find clues by studying the artifacts created by these beings."

Zod leaned forward, listening intently as Nabu explained.

The Mystery of Artifacts

"Artifacts like the Helm of Nabu, which grants me my power, or the Rock of Eternity, where the Wizard Shazam channels his magic, are imbued with immense energy.

For example, the Helm of Nabu is not just a conduit for Order—it is also a source of magic. It creates seemingly endless power for the wearer.

If the artifacts of these beings can generate limitless energy, it suggests they have uncovered a means to tap into an eternal source. Perhaps their own magic does not come from within, but from a greater, cosmic reservoir."

Zod's eyes widened as he absorbed Nabu's theory.

He knew the truth about some artifacts. The Helm of Nabu contained Order's energy, just as the Eye of Chronos (housing the Time Stone) manipulated time itself. But Nabu's words sparked a new thought in Zod's mind:

"If the source of magic isn't the gods themselves, then perhaps the key lies in the artifacts they created."

Zod's Revelation: The Infinite Source

Zod's thoughts turned to Tesseract, which he remembered from his past life as an artifact of infinite energy. Even humans, like Howard Stark, were able to harness its power to create the Arc Reactor—a marvel of science.

"If mortals like Howard Stark could study and adapt the Tesseract's energy," Zod thought, "surely someone like me, a Kryptonian with mastery over magic, could unlock even greater secrets from it."

In Zod's mind, the Tesseract represented a far better opportunity than the Helm of Nabu or the Eye of Chronos. Unlike those artifacts, the Tesseract had been recently hidden on Earth, unguarded and vulnerable.

With renewed determination, Zod stood and bowed deeply to Nabu.

"Thank you, Master. Your insight has given me clarity on my next step."

The Hunt for the Tesseract

Zod left the sanctum with his plan fully formed. His next target would be the Tesseract, which he knew had been hidden by Jor-El in Tonsberg, a quiet village in Europe.

Unlike the Eye of Chronos, which was guarded by Nabu himself, the Tesseract lay unclaimed. Zod could study it for as long as he needed without interference.

But before leaving Kamar-Taj, Zod hesitated. A smirk spread across his face as he turned back to Nabu's sanctum.

"Master Nabu," he said slyly, "would you be so kind as to open a portal to Tonsberg for me? It would save me considerable time."

Nabu chuckled softly, clearly amused. With a wave of his hand, he conjured a glowing portal that shimmered with golden energy.

"Be cautious, Zod," Nabu warned. "The path of knowledge often leads to danger."

"I'll be careful," Zod replied, stepping through the portal.

The Bigger Picture

As Zod stepped into the quiet village of Tonsberg, he couldn't help but marvel at how far he had come.

The Kryptonian blood that coursed through his veins was a blessing, but it also imposed limits. He could not rely on the Lords of Order or Chaos as the sorcerers of Kamar-Taj did. Instead, he had to carve his own path, using artifacts like the Tesseract to transcend those limitations.

"This world may not yet understand the power it holds," Zod thought. "But I will unlock its secrets and reshape the balance of power in my favor."

With that, Zod began his search for the Tesseract, unaware that his journey would eventually bring him face-to-face with beings like Darkseid, Trigon, and even Kal-El, as he sought to claim his place as the ultimate wielder of magic and Kryptonian strength.
