Chapter 215: Chapter 214: The Founding of the Empire - "Evil God"
However, the two brothers seemed unaware of the strange changes around them or the countless eyes staring at them intently.
At this moment, they were still lost in scenes deep within their memories.
They saw their father taking them, along with Guilliman and Magnus, to the mall and the movies. They also saw Dr. Ashford leading them and two other brothers to the primordial rainforest on Pandora, or to the deserts and ice fields of the main universe, observing various creatures up close, studying their behaviors and characteristics.
Seeing these moments, Sanguinius and Horus couldn't help but smile.
But suddenly!
The vision before Sanguinius began to shift. The pleasant memories transformed into his father assigning the position of supreme commander to Guilliman, who was the same age as him. He saw Dr. Ashford calling Guilliman "her child," ignoring Sanguinius, who was patiently waiting nearby.
In Horus's mind, the scene was of his father speaking to him in a deep voice, saying, "Horus, you are now ready to take on the role of governor of Universe Zero Five. Go ahead." Yet after these words, his father gradually walked away with Magnus, disappearing from view.
Then, the scenes continued to flash before Sanguinius and Horus.
They saw themselves leading their own troops, not for humanity—but rather for their father—against the corporeal forms and berserk zombies from Pandorum and World War Z. And their father, seemingly dismissive, gave them a cursory compliment.
It seemed as though their father had never truly focused on them, but instead paid more attention to Guilliman and Magnus, who had descended on the same day as they had.
Next, they saw fragmented glimpses of the "future."
Their father openly revealed to humanity the existence of the relic base and space gate of the main universe, seizing the opportunity to establish the nation they had long dreamed of—
The Human Empire.
By the time Sanguinius and Horus saw this, they had already suspected, based on their father's words and the expansion of the space gate, that he was patiently waiting for the right moment to create a more perfect, unified society without internal disputes.
So these so-called "future" images were merely a phase they, as primarchs, would inevitably accompany their father through.
But...
When the Imperial Palace, towering over the relic base, was completed, and countless humans waved petals in the air, joyously welcoming their father and the other brothers back, Sanguinius and Horus were still leading their armies, holding off alien threats for the Empire.
Indeed, if their father had assigned them that role, they would have willingly continued fighting on the Empire's founding day.
But the scenes that followed "foretold" that no matter how much they did, the ones the human citizens adored were always the other brothers. The glory and accomplishments were credited to them, while the two who had not yet returned were gradually forgotten by the masses.
?
Witnessing all this, Horus should have been filled with resentment and discontent, despairing over humanity's "habitual forgetting of history." But he had never forgotten his father's teachings, encouragement, and attention.
Heh, they didn't have the guts to confront me directly, so they resorted to using my own memories to create such realistic yet false illusions.
Is this supposed to be the so-called King of the Gods from myths and legends?
Utterly laughable.
Horus swung the "birthday gift" his father had given him, easily shattering the blasphemous scene playing out around him.
Crack—crash—!!
The false illusion shattered like a mirror, dissipating completely.
And Horus sensed the eerie gazes locked on him.
"."
Seeing this, Horus gently raised his left hand, causing pale golden psychic lightning to flicker between the claws of his Cawl Wolf's Fang.
Beneath his helmet, his face grew serious, remaining vigilant for the true creator of the false illusion.
Boom—!!
Almost simultaneously, Sanguinius thrust the Imperial Spear through the "mirror," emerging beside his brother. He spoke in a deep voice, "It seems we're luckier than the others, encountering the true scum of the Warp ahead of time."
"Mm." Horus did not disagree.
"Hehehe~ Oh, look what I've found-? Truly delicious and adorable. I can't wait to crush you in my palm~-"
As the two brothers broke through the chains of illusion and stepped into the realm of endless darkness, a voice echoed around them. It was androgynous, filled with seduction and corruption.
This made Sanguinius and Horus stand back-to-back, ensuring neither would be ambushed.
At the same time, Horus sneered, "You cowardly scum, hiding in the distance. Come face us if you dare!"
"As you wish-."
With those words, the strange eyes surrounding them gradually faded.
Then, as the endless darkness began to ignite with pale purple psychic flames, a "colossal figure" appeared before the two primarchs.
The being had pale purple skin and flowing white hair that emitted a radiant glow. Its face could be described as beautiful, but it had unsightly horn-like growths on its head, and its body was wrapped in countless tentacles.
It seemed both within reach and yet impossibly far away. This enormous creature was surely one of the Chaos Gods their father had warned them about.
The Chaos God standing before Sanguinius and Horus was none other than Slaanesh, born from the emotions of lust, pleasure, indulgence, and pride in intelligent beings.
However, Samuel Young had not disclosed the name of this god to his sons, to avoid unnecessary complications.
Whether it was the fallen minor gods or the major gods who had maintained their original forms, like Poseidon and Artemis, or even Zeus, the King of the Gods, who sacrificed his own kind, they had all become Slaanesh's playthings, constantly providing Him with sustenance through their extreme emotions.
"Such adorable little ones~," Slaanesh slowly opened His eyes, speaking with great interest.
"Ah, your souls are irresistible~. Come~. Come into my embrace. Let me lavish your bodies with love, so you may experience true pleasure~."
After saying this, Slaanesh extended His arms toward the two primarchs.
"Enough with the theatrics."
Sanguinius had no intention of embracing the god. He immediately raised his right hand and hurled the Imperial Spear at Slaanesh with all his strength.
"."
Horus, maintaining his silence, also swung his weapon, releasing pure golden psychic lightning to accompany the spear as it shot toward Slaanesh's head.
?
!
Slaanesh had intended to wave away the attacks and demonstrate His unmatched power before these two little cubs.
However, when He sensed the golden psychic light, a look of fear crossed His face, as if it triggered some "unpleasant" memory.
Slaanesh fell silent, swiftly severing His connection with Zeus and returning the central hall of the godly palace to its original state.
As for Zeus, who had regained his senses and returned to his throne, he hadn't yet comprehended what had transpired—
Swoosh—!!
Crackle—!!
Before he could react, the Imperial Spear pierced through his body, and the psychic lightning ravaged and scorched him.
In the blink of an eye, the King of the Gods was reduced to a charred corpse, his corrupted soul completely claimed.
